Military unit experts or SEALs or anybody who knows - I have a quick question. I'm reading Marcus Luttrell's book, "Lone Survivor" and on page 160 he writes: "Dan, Healy, Shane, James, Axe, Mikey, and I, the new arrivals from SDV Team 1, were immediately seconded to SEAL Team 10 out of Virginia Beach" What does he mean by SDV Team 1? Is that a special group within another SEAL Team? Is that a type of support team and they went to one of the numbered teams? What does seconded mean? The only thing I could find was SEAL Delivery Vehicle for SDV but I'm just curious about the relationship between the SDV crews and the SEAL Teams. FYI: great book so far. The training chapters were a bit long in the tooth if you watch a fair amount of military channel or discovery channel stuff BUT still a good refresher on just what these Men go through though; Jesus! Right now he's going through the ROEs in Afghanistan - if that won't piss you off. Thanks for any info |

There are currently two SDV teams in the Naval Special Warfare Command. SDV Team 1 is located at Naval Amphibious Base Coronado, Calif., and SDV Team 2 at Naval Amphibious Base, Little Creek, VA. SEAL Delivery Vehicle teams are divided into platoons. A SDV platoon is composed of 16 personnel; one dive medical technician, 11 SEALs and four fleet support maintenance technicians. |
SEALs, they sure do DELIVER!!! I'm on the 2nd to last page of the book. Its truly inspiring how all those good folks gathered at his family's ranch to form a vigil until word on his fate came through. A very good book indeed! |
Thanks Osprey21 - So he was a SEAL assigned to a SDV Team and he was sent to A-Stan and reassigned to SEAL Team 10 to do other activities not related to the SDVs. Got it - |
How the hell do you put down a book with 2 pages left!? I'd only do that if the building was on fire or something. Carry on. |
Just finished the book, was sitting at the computer desk reading, arfcom happened to be up and on the screen... |
Slow reader ...been reading the book for about a year, you know not enough pictures and long words to sound out. |
