Quoted: Pink Floyd Shine on You Crazy Diamond View Quote I heard a story about this song that's downright spooky. Everyone knows that most of PF's music is about band member Sid Barrett's descent into madness & exit from the group-- he was the one they "wished was there" for that album/song. Apparently while at the studio recording Wish You Were Here, an unkempt homeless-looking dude wandered up, and stood watching them record takes for the track through the booth glass for like fifteen minutes, totally motionless & without any expression, then turned & left without saying anything to anyone. Apparently it was Barrett, changed to point he was unrecognizable to his band mates. "Remember when you were young, You shined the sun. Now there's a look in your eyes, Like black holes in the sky...." |

Quoted: Dire Straits, Money for nothing. View Quote For Dire Straits, I think that Telegraph Road qualifies much better as "epic". 14-minute song, or so, with a really long, really awesome instrumental part at the end (about 4 minutes long), including a lot of cool guitar licks. Close call between that and Brothers in Arms as my favorite song by Dire Straits. A long, epic song by Deep Purple, also one of my favorites, is Child in Time. One might argue that Smoke on the Water could be counted as well; while not as long, it is more iconic. |

Inarguably. Beyond debate. The album is about sanity & the human experience, itself. That everyone is always a bit crazy, the sunlight of reason only partially illuminating our minds, until, for a time, we are totally eclipsed by madness such as; -Nihilism (Breathe) -Fear (On the Run) -Regret (Time) -Death (Great Gig in the Sky) -Money (Money) -Conflict (Us and Them) -Insanity (Brain Damage) |

Quoted: All are good choices. I prefer Led Zeppelin- Kashmir View Quote I think the version done with Plant and Paige for the No Quarter tour was epic. Too bad Bonham's son wasn't on the drums for that, though. The drummer left something to be desired. Having the Egyptian Orchestra included really made it great, though. |
