"but what about gas attacks?" No one wears gas masks anymore in the army. And I can tell you as someone that trains with them at my current agency, I get a good seal with my beard. I used to shave before training events and now I don't bother.

If people want to join but are too fat and otherwise meet standards like aptitude then sign them up and put them into fat camp run by some quality trainers instead of drill sergeants. Once they meet weight/strength standards transition them to basic.

Apparently there are quite a few E-9s on ARFCOM.

If everyone from Vikings in the Dark Ages to the SAS in WWII and both sides of the Boer War can manage to survive as a professional military organization despite being bearded I don't think facial hair will do more to damage our military readiness than all of the other sort of nonsense that has been implemented

You don't, you die. Go check out the old photos and video of the Iran, Iraq War when mustard and other agents were used. Dead bearded guys everywhere with masks on. One article I read about it said a few guys were found with heavy grease in their beards thinking it would help seal their mask. Mustard killed them dead.
