I got about halfway through the season and thought it was just "ehh." I was already considering dropping it, but then I found out most people think the 2nd half of the season is even worse than the 1st half and that it has a very depressing ending. I immediately dropped it. Cyberpunk is all about a dystopian future. It's supposed to be depressing. That's a big part of its charm. A dystopian setting has nothing to do with it. It has to do with a story I don’t give a shit about and characters I’m not invested in. I actually generally enjoy dystopian media. Exactly. Can't get depressed if you literally don't care. Reality is the show is not a Greek Tragedy but actually a Comedy. David basically gains super powers, thinks he's special and won't screw up but makes ALL OF THE EXACT SAME MISTAKES everyone around him makes and learns nothing and has ZERO growth, motivation or drive. He's an NPC along for the serendipitous ride. Lucy, falls in love with David at first sight.. cause plot? But then turns him over to her friends who plan to kill him to take his powers...but don't, cause plot? Basically everyone in the show is stupid, going back knowing their gonna get betrayed, screwing with psychotic cyborgs and getting shot in the face, taking stupid missions, etc. |

Unfortunately, the second half of S1 has been, overall, a shitshow across the board compared to the first half regardless of whether its SoL or spy/assassin stuff. An episode in the first half would end and I'd find myself thinking "no, it can't be over yet, it just started." On the other hand, all too often in the second half I find myself wishing the episode would hurry up and be over. |

Have you seen The Origin or Cucuruz Doan's Island? Origin episodes 3 onward is the best Gundam ever. Cucuruz Doan's Island is the most Japanese thing ever. He's overpowered because he's so obsessed with training to obtain the power needed for his ideal role, but that obsession carries over into perfecting the slightly below average Clark Kent persona, even if it requires perfecting 87 ways to lose a sword match on the school training grounds. ...and what's the point of having 87 ways to lose a sword match on the school training grounds, if you never get to use them to show how average you are and check off yet another box on your plan to demonstrate how average you are? The comedy is partly how he takes things to an extreme, partly how characters interacting with each other are not only not on the same page but sometimes not in the same book, and partly 'WTF?'. |

Anime has so many things that just don't happen IRL like someone being sick but not knowing it until they pass out and then all of a sudden have a high fever. How protagonists can have a full on conversation while the enemy that's kicking their ass just waits for them to finish, I'm damn near 50 and have never had an "accidental kiss" or accidentally fall on top of a beautiful woman. It's just a part of the "anime magic" and when you're in that universe it just is. NOW when you have a show like Ghost in the Shell, can't remember what the latest reboot was called, and it's supposed to be all serious and real and there's this ambush to kill the MC so the guns just get shot out of the antagonists hands.. yeah that bugs me but not the sky surfing mecha in Eureka 7. |

Yeah, it's usually pretty easy, up to a point. Jormungand season 2 hit that point for me, because a key point of the underlying plot was something I could have pointed out as being complete BS when I was in elementary school. It just doesn't work like that, and there's more than one way that could be pointed out that the author could have easily figured out that the premise of their story was absolute bullshit, if they had thought about it and done a few minutes research on the internet. Sure, when a major part of the story is a magical girl, or some futuristic piece of tech that we may or may not see working in a century or two, suspension of disbelief is not that difficult. But if the topic in question is something that you have actually had your hands on, used, spent a chunk of your career working on, and read a fair amount of the history of it, then the author decides to pull some fantasy story concept out of their ass that defies the basic logic of the items in question... it gets a bit harder to suspend disbelief. Aria the Scarlet Ammo wasn't as bad as Jormungand season 2, but I can see some points of Aria where a pilot would be bugged about some of the aviation related stuff, similar to how you are bugged by guns getting shot out of hands. |

Today's episode of Spy x Family was probably one of the better episodes of the 2nd half (though that's not saying much), but the 2nd half overall has still been a massive disappointment. Whoever it was that posted this doesn't even feel like the same anime was spot on.
