I have no experience with the older ones, but this new one has a smoother action than my performance center 686. I’m impressed. Attached File |
|
I really like mine. All three are very accurate with full wadcutters. This is from the 3" Python: Drew some dots to shoot extra groups. My contribution to the green movement = shoot and use up as much of the paper as I can. Attached File |
|
Quoted: Congrats. They really do have a smooth trigger pull. Very comfortable to shoot. The only issue I have is getting used to the cylinder release function. |
|
Quoted: I tried the 3" version. Didn't care for the grip. I wish there was a rounded grip frame model available. Attached File Attached File |

Quoted: I wonder why they changed the vents/ribbing from 2 to 3. On one of the video Colt published, they mentioned about that being more eye pleasing with 3 vents on 4.25" barrel. No body ask for it, Colt always does what it think it's right (not always in the same page as the buyer). I saw more negative comments on that than the likes in most forums discussing the new blued Python. |

I was under the impression that was just a pre-production thing and production guns were supposed to have he correct 2 vents. 3 vents on the 4" barrel looks retarted. |

Unfortunately 3 vents on 4.25 is the final production design. Whoever call the shot at Colt is retarded in my opinion too. Feel like putting "tactical" MLOK slots on the classic revolver. |
| Odd numbers for pillows, decorations/ artwork/ pictures, and apparently vent ribs. I overheard a decorator say that years ago...something about the human mind orders preference to odd numbers for aesthetics, even/ 'round' numbers for math. I haven't been able to shake that memory. I like the 3-rib vent. I also haven't run screaming from rooms if there are 4 pillows on a couch. |

Quoted: When are they going to get rid of the extra .25" on the end of the 4" barrel model? You can't own a new handgun in Cannuckistan, so that extra 1/4" is basically useless. I wouldn't count on Colt doing anything rational like that anymore. They do what they do. You either like it or go pound sand. So glad S&W didn't do that on their 4" 27 Classics. That extra 1/4" would have just messed it up. I had a 19 Classic and sold it because all the little changes they made just ruined it to me aesthetically. The 2-piece barrel meant the barrel had to be made thicker, the profile of the underlug was changed, the grips were lengthened and slimmed down, and the 4.25" barrel. All combined into a revolver with too much barrel, too much grip, and not enough frame or cylinder. It just looked oddly proportioned and wrong. So I replaced it with the 27. Much better looking gun. |

I have one. The factory rear sight is garbage. The face of the trigger is too squared off and the serrations are too aggressive. And the 4.25" barrel was made for the Canadian market. We can't have a true 4" barrel because of Canada, a market that doesn't even exist anymore since handgun sales are banned there. As a modern revolver, it is a good design. But it has things that need fixing. |

Mine is there right now. |

Quoted: My 2023 python is light years ahead of my 986, 686+, 627 PC, essentially every smith I own and it’s not even close. In what ways? I'm a diehard S&W man but, even though I see bad reviews about some Colt revolvers (to be fair, i see bad reviews about damn near every firearm manufactured in this internet age) I'm really considering a Python lately. |
The new Pythons are pretty nice. someone will come along and point out how the old ways were better, or the hand fitting was better. they may be right but the new Python is still a really nice revolver. ![]() Colt Python |

Quoted: Because original 4" guns had two vents. The extra quarter inch threw it off. https://i.ytimg.com/vi/UN3lmzsKQf0/maxresdefault.jpg The new production stainless Pythons also have the extra 1/4" on the barrel and 2 vents. They look fine. Hell of a lot better than the blued 3 vent models. Was there literally anyone complaining about the look of 2 vents on the new 4.25" barrels? Cuz I haven't seen it. Of all the posts over the years where people praise how good the old Pythons look, not once have I ever read someone say "Man I wish they would add an extra vent to the 4" barrels. Would really make it pop." Now the 2 models don't even match. At the very least, just pick a style and stick with it. Face it, Colt fucked up here. As companies nowadays tend to do when reviving an old legacy model. They always feel this stupid need to change things for the sake of change. Leave it alone, it was popular for a reason. Stop fixing shit that isn't broken. |

Stop fixing shit that isn't broken. Again, compared to my original Colt. Meh.... It isn't a Python internally. It is a okay gun for today's market. But it isn't a real Python. Colt even went so far as to make the trigger pull be shitty to appease the California market requirements. Again, it isn't a Python. They should have just called it a Trooper MK-VI or a Python MK-II. But Colt rehashing all the old model names on guns with no connection is stupid. The new King Cobra is actually a good gun. But it isn't a King Cobra. The original wasn't a D Frame. The guns the new Cobra and King Cobra are based off of is the SF-VI and Carry Magnum. The new King Cobra is simply a rebadged Carry Magnum that's been simplified for CNC production and a three inch barrel. Hell, the original Cobra was an aluminum frame, not a steel frame gun. But the new Cobra is just a rebadged SF-VI. |

Quoted: The three vents on the 4.25" is what made it look bad. Mine is like that. Original 4" Pythons had two vents. The new ones had three, them after people bitching, Colt went back to two vents. Again, compared to my original Colt. Meh.... It isn't a Python internally. It is a okay gun for today's market. But it isn't a real Python. Quoted: Yes. Here's the original new production blued 4.25" with three vents. This one was sent to NRA for their magazine review. https://www.americanhunter.org/media/eomfyf3a/python-revolver-on-white.jpg?mode=crop&width=1920&height=1080 Here's another three vent that was sent to Athlon Outdoors for their review article. https://athlonoutdoors.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/01/Colt-Python-Blued-AG-11.jpg Word is, Colt is now shipping out 4.25" blued guns with two vents. https://www.coltforum.com/cdn-cgi/image/format=auto,onerror=redirect,width=1920,height=1920,fit=scale-down/https://www.coltforum.com/attachments/screenshot-2024-01-23-at-9-42-31%E2%80%AFpm-png.885949/ Well shit. That's a pleasant surprise. All is right with the world again. |

Quoted: Overated... This. I own/have owned old Pythons, Troopers, and Detective Specials. They are nice guns and finished well but do not stack up to a classic K frame magnum in my view. I've never been a Colt double action trigger fan. The Single actions on the Colts were usually amazing but the double action design leads to a degree of trigger stacking that I find offputting. |
|
I'm glad you guys had good luck with the newer Pythons. Mine has the worst double action trigger pull I have ever experienced. It also locks up the cylinder if you do not completely remove your finger from the trigger after reset. Even half a millimeter of riding the reset will result in a locked up gun. I have fired many dozens of other revolvers including older Pythons and have never seen one that is this bad. This new production Python is easily my most regrettable firearms purchase ever. |

Now, between my OG Python and my Trooper MK-III. I'd said the Trooper MK-III is actually the better shooter. The quality is just as good as the Python, even though it is a newer design (for the era it was made). My SF-VI has the best trigger I've ever felt. It is just that good. But in the end, pre-lock S&W outright built a better revolver. |
