Did you guys (or Daniel Defense) change the receiver specs recently? I just received my stripped M4A1 SOCOM upper from Brownell's, and I was surprised to see that my upper did in fact have the laser markings on the left side which read, "M4A1" and "5.56," just like the standard factory M4A1/URG. The pics on Brownell's web site that I've seen (plus the YouTube video of Paul showing it off, and pics in this thread) suggested that it would come with no laser markings other than "Daniel Defense" on the left near the barrel nut, so I was actually paranoid that Brownell's had shipped me the wrong URG. Then I took off the bottom of the RIS II rail to look at the barrel profile (even measured it with my caliper) - it is indeed a SOCOM profile barrel, not the Govt profile that comes on the standard DD M4A1 (which I already own).
Please note: I'm not complaining at all - the receiver markings were a pleasant surprise to me. The main reason that I bought this upper is because I may be moving to Maryland in the near future, so I'll have to swap out my DD M4A1's upper group to be MD-compliant if/when that happens. My M4A1 is set up right now as a clone of the one that appears in the "Sicario" movies, so I actually want the receiver laser markings because they appear on the movie gun, so they make my weapon clone-correct. Of course, I realize my preference makes me a minority...I suspect most customers who buy this upper are SOPMOD Block II cloners who will prefer no laser markings at all.
