Whats the earliest movie that has police armed with AR-15-type weapons?

I noticed it in Naked Gun 2 1/2 which was made in 1991

The original SWAT tv show showed them with M16s. This is funny because at the time, the LAPD SWAT was issued 12 gauge shotguns. The producers thought shotguns were "too brutal."

Eastwood/The Gauntlet. 1976.

AR15 and AR180 Goodness

Couple of the Planet of the Apes Movies in the early 70's featured the AR15 in futuristic SHTF.

Still, one gets the impression that AR's weren't entirely common back in the day.

There is a few cops armed with m-16s in the big shootout scene with the bus in The Gauntlet (mid 1970s).

Nice trigger finger discipline for such an elite unit.

Damn.  Was trigger discipline more of a suggestion back in the day?    Or is this hollywood getting it wrong again?

There was a Dirty Harry movie where the SFPD Tactical (SWAT team) conducted a raid in the Fillmore.   Tactical wielded AR-15s/M-16s in that movie.

ETA:  It was The Enforcer, 1976.  Harry took his woman partner to the VFW (Very  Few Whites) in the Fill'mo (that's how it's pronounced by the lower class locals who live there.  The normal folks of all colors pronounced it regularly).
