...was a classy motherfucker. Matt Helm.

Quoted: I've read that the. whole "drunk" thing was an act too. View Quote I've heard his daughter say that too. She said he preferred to be home with the wife and kids. The Ratpack stuff was for his image. ETA: I remember my folks had some of his albums in the early sixties and played them often. He had a great voice. |

Dean Martin was an amateur boxer when he was young.
"I had 12 fights. I won all of them except 11." |
|
I thought he and Steve McQueen were the epitome of cool when I was a kid.
For different reasons, but still. |
|
I loved his show, did not get half the jokes as a kid but I was fascinated with the "Gold Digger dancers"
|

|
None better. He was absolutely perfect as a sidekick to The Duke in every movie they did.
I still use his music for panty-dropping time. |

One of my favorite guys! I grew up watching the Dean Martin show on TV. And the Matt Helm movies were a hoot! http://m5.i.pbase.com/g3/72/325172/2/101862815.TC74a10C.jpg View Quote Go try to buy those at a SAMs club. On the back there's a disclaimer saying the actors were really friends and all the racial stuff was in good fun. This modern PC bullshit sickens me. Were I running for president I'd be so un-PC, I'd make Trump look like Obama. |

Never the same after his son Dino was killed in an F-4 crash. (San Gabriel Mtns?)

I've read that the. whole "drunk" thing was an act too. View Quote Same with Sinatra. He'd order drinks and ditch them and order more and people thought he could hold a lot of liquor. I read a book about him where is family were quoted as saying this. But, back to Dean... There'll never be another. |
|
I read a few books on Dean and the Rat Pack. Dean did what he wanted when he wanted. He was the only one in the Pack that would defy Sinatra.

Frank would show up early to a get together at a bar, and tip the bar tender to make every 4th drink a real drink, and the rest were soda or club with a lime. I copy that move when meeting up with people I work for. I may have two or three real drinks the whole night. |

I think when he lost his son 'Dean' in the F4 accident it hit him very hard and he had a hard time accepting.

View Quote One of the funniest bits ever. I have to stop and watch the whole thing every time. Dean is crying about 3/4 of the way through because he's laughing so hard. I assume he had the straight bit questions and Brooks was riffing. |

The Pride of Steubenville, Ohio. A better singer than Sinatra. A fine actor. Great as a straight man for Jerry Lewis. He could cowboy with John Wayne. The Young Lions is one of my all time favorite films. I celebrate the man's entire catalog.

Always enjoyed seeing him on TV.
A favorite move of mine is "Rio Bravo" (1959). |

If only tbere was an internet site on which to search such information! Then why have a discussion forum at all? To make fun of people, of course! He, Dean Paul Martin, flew his F-4 into a mountain on March 21, 1987. He had been married to Dorothy Hamill (an American ice skater who won some medals in some olympics, but suffers froma depressive disorder, along with her daughter from a subsequent husband,) and Olivia Hussey, an actress, who starred in a movie in the 70's called "Romeo and Julliette," with whom he had children. Dean paul was also an actor, and died a captain in the USAF reserve, I belive. Took me three minutes to learn every bit of that. I already knew he died in a crash of a Phantom. Matter of fact: Google "Dean Martin son death" first thing you get is information on the death of Dean Martin's son! Amaaaazing! |

Him and the "Rat Pack" had a huge influence back in the day.
Fun times. PC crap was the last thing on any ones mind. |

This thread make me think of Don Rickles. Dear God, no one has ever made me laugh like Don Rickles back in the day. I mean stomach aching, deep brain endorphin releasing, tear invoking laughter.
