People who work late, overnight, or early, early morning shifts
have my respect. They keep things running, and handle bad stuff that happens outside of "normal" working hours.   |

Having worked on existing bridges and part of building new bridges across the Mississippi and Missouri rivers it was a great experience. I have worked on the Eads in the past. One company I worked for was Massman another Eads project St.Louis Bridge Co.. Heavy Bridge construction was some of the most dangerous work I have done. Even with todays safety requirements it is still in many ways expected that injuries happen. |

Working midnights is awesome.
Being a mid level supervisor means I'm the highest person at my DG. Walking my dogs at 2am and hearing the coyotes howl and the cows moo angrily back is kind of eery. Also means for drill weekends have to bounce back to dayshift which is miserable. |

Generator swap outs for a 2000 amp service today.
Yay.  In my teens I used to midnight solo hike without a light, which helped me fight that human fear of darkness. As an adult working nights in construction, I saw a different side to D.C. at 0200 after the bars closed, and no, I'm not talking about the streetwalkers.  It was peaceful, especially before dawn and the commuter traffic. (Washington isn't bad if you get rid of the criminals, both those in and out of political office.) |

Downtown St.Louis has no slack time with dusk to dawn. Working night at one point required that off duty STLMP was on site. When ferguson blewup day and night was sporty. When you talk about night life the STL homeless has a say on what and how it happens. And there are still storefronts boarded up. You have downtown and then 15 blocks out in any direction the projects surround the metro downtown business area. Except on the one side, the Mississippi. Laclede Landing was a protected zone with the casinos there also. But with the shortage of Metro Police allot of private security is there. The off duty STL Police have things pretty well contained there. |

The only part I've seen of Missouri
was during the drive from MCI (in KCMO) to Olathe, KS, and back. Both trips were during the day, and uneventful. ETA - I would like a classy fedora, or a decent herringbone flat cap. Head coverings of all styles should be revived. Make hat check girls great again! |

Partially location, partially dates. The show on Mother's Day weekend two counties over was awful, didn't even cover table rent. Same inventory, same schpiel, all depends on the crowd coming in and what competition shows up. Now that I can get Hater Tots again, adding 12 ga pumps back on the menu. 1oz slug at 1200 fps. |

Last day of parental leave for the new baby. Enjoyed my week off with the wife and kids but I’m ready to go back. My SILs have started popping over the mountain to visit and help out and I’m free to work and work around the homestead. Baby is not sleeping well at night but decided to give the wife a break so she can sleep some.

A carnival was in town, so the wife and I took our 10 y.o.
(I've been ill for awhile. I'm surprised I went, but glad I did). I got our son to ride a kids' mechanical bull, and a gravitron (centripetal force) wheel, two rides he's never tried before. |

Never did take the boy to 6 Flags. Last time I was at a county fair in Virginia, I discovered that I no longer had the iron constitution of a teenager & spewed hot dogs over everyone spinning by below. I enjoyed the ride much better after that.

Wife wants to visit Six Flags Maryland.
Not only is it in MD, it's in PG County. Carrying might be required, jacket pocket or not. I'd rather go hike Mount Rogers in s.w. VA. Anyone here ever been to Guadalupe Peak? ETA - Or any other cool mountains? I regret not visiting Pic d'Agou while in West Africa. |
