I’m 60, played pickleball with my 15yo grandson yesterday in the 90° heat and didn’t die; 40 is easy.

Quoted: I just turned 39 a few days ago so I hit the big 40 next June. I remember the jokes etc that once you turn 40 it's all over. For those of you that are into your 40s now is it just another number or do you really start to see differences? View Quote Nope, but 68 sucks. If you live that long. |

53 was when I noticed I really, really had to fight to stay fit.
The days of out-cardioing my mouth were over at that point. |
It's a milestone, for sure.
The real tough one is the day that you wake up and realize that, no matter what, you have less days ahead of you than behind you. |
I’m in your same age bracket.
It is interesting seeing some peers start to suffer from self inflicted health problems. I feel as good as I did in my 20s. |

Remember, in life the first half is free, you have to earn the second half. Get moving.

Work out like a beast and eat clean…..and it’s no different than 30’s. I’m actually enjoying my 40’s more. Great time to really focus on your physical well being.

From 40 to 45 I convinced myself that it was all downhill at that point. Then I stopped being weak, got out of my own way, and stopped making excuses. Now at 52 I am happier, stronger, and more disciplined than at any time in my life.
Age is a number. Success is an action. Act. |

I'm now 41. I'm in the best shape of my life, kids and wife are healthy and happy, and I make good money.
40 for me was where life went from good to great. Edit - my teens and 20s were overshadowed by my parents 8 year divorce culminating in my dad dying from cancer. My 30s were good, except for the year I was diagnosed with cancer. But 40s and on has been awesome. |
40 didn't bother me. At 45 I started to notice things. I don't like having to put on glasses to read and I should probably make time to get my hair dyed more often than 3-4 times a year.
some of it is certainly life circumstances unique to me (i spent a lot of my 30s in VA hospitals)
but i enjoyed the hell out of my 40s i turned 50 last year and so far im enjoying my 50s too i’ve got more money than i did in my 20s and 30s (by a LOT) and i can still the things i enjoy (probably more so because i haven’t had a surgery in 4 years now after having 28 surgeries in 26 years) |
In my experience, 40 is nothing.
The dip from 60 to 70 is brutal. |
I'm 46 and overweight but that's been my normal most of my life. I can still do most things but I'm more careful about how I do it. My eyes have started to go but I'm not getting glasses yet.
I work with a guy in his twenties that doesn't understand what I do today will affect what I do tomorrow. I've reached the age that when I start a physical project like a deck. I have to get it done in one day or space it out with slow days in between. I'm still not used to waking up with a sore spot I can't remember injuring. |

A LOT more. Not if you are married. Sore you chose poorly. I just hit 50 and wife will in October. Sex is still a very important activity of our relationship. We are both in shape and work our regularly. As for 40 no real change. My better than 20/20 vision is no longer what it used to be, that probably started decline mid 40’s. Slower recovery and ache more after some workouts or activities but the alternative is not doing anything becoming a fat ass and aching more than I would staying in shape. |

Had kids at 37 and 40.
Im alot more tired than i used to be and my body hurts more than it used to. But its not really something to whine about cause im having more fun with these kids than ever |
Injuries take longer to heal but otherwise no different. I just turned 51 and still going strong.
Judging by what I see with my FiL, my dad and a few other older males I know, 60 is when things go downhill pretty fast physically.
I'm no slouch, but my dad at age 60 was easily stronger than me in my 30s. 5 years later I'm easily stronger than him now. |

I just turned 40. My knees hurt some days. My job is tough and doing it in the mountains of WV makes it killer. I’m excited to get back working on flat ground again lol.
Those testosterone injections sure help a fuck ton I’m fuckin beast right now. Probably some of the best shape I’ve ever been in. Feel pretty damn good. |
I started physically falling apart when I was 40.
I got osteoarthritis in my lower back for a 40th birthday present. And I had surgery to repair torn cartilage in my wrist. |
I’m 34 so 40 doesn’t seem too bad right now. It seemed old when I was a lot younger. My observation is most people can get through their 40s and still look decent coming out of that decade. Most start looking like shit coming out of their 50s. So that’s the decade that’s probably gonna suck.

View Quote Presbyopia affects nearly everyone in their 40s since our lens starts becoming less elastic. Sun damage to the skin can take up to 20 years to appear. You see a lot of people in their 40s with it. |

It's a number
That being said, you're basically halfway to dead. |

I'm in way better shape coming up to 40 than I could have imagined when I was coming up to 30. I was never really fat, but I lift/run/shoot now. 10K this summer. Rock and roll, however you can, just don't be sedentary.
No. I was just even more motivated to continue lifting and staying fit.

Quoted: No. I was just even more motivated to continue lifting and staying fit. View Quote That's right OP don't be soft and gay. Make all the gym holes position themselves to work out on the same station that you just did. Repeatedly like a senseless bitch and then they'll know too. Then finally one of them invites you over to her pad to have some brownies. You can't make this shit up either. Next thing you know is your driving her fucked up beamer all around town looking for more. |

I was in the best physical condition of my life during my 40s. My 50s have been a different story, surgery for a herniated disc in my neck, cancer, and now sciatica that has me half crippled.
40 wasn’t bad, I am blessed where I pretty much look the same as I did when I was in my 20’s with a sprinkle of gray hairs. Now 45, that is when stuff started to hurt when getting out of bed and things started going a bit sideways.

As soon as I hit 40 I took a specialty lightbulb to Home Depot because there were no markings on it and I didn't know what replacement to purchase. I asked a worker kid there and he looked right at the bulb and read the print. I looked at it again and I couldn't see squat. My eyesight went bad when I hit 40.

The physical ramification of all of the stupid shit you did between 14-25 starts to really be felt at that age.
40 was fine..
By mid-50's the abuse I put my body through earlier in life started to need maintenance. I now have multiple titanium parts/pieces in me, in hindsight the wear/tear probably wasn't worth it but there's no going back to redo those earlier phases and the ortho surgeons need employment too. |
Your eyes will start going if they haven’t already. But I wish I was 40 again. You still have 10 more years of good. Things start going downhill after 50. You just can’t do the stuff like you used to. And if you can, it takes longer to recover. ??

I was in my best shape at 40 ever. Avid mountain biker best shape of my life.
50 was the beginning the end for me. Started losing my hair and got a twisted testicle from bike riding so I had to stop riding. Down hill ever since. |

Seems like 42 or so is when the big change for me happened. Took me a decade to figure it out.
If you are not a gym guy. Start hitting it. I went from being pretty fit from fucking and regular activities to not pretty quickly. Now I'm in the gym 3 to 4 times a week. From looking around I would say I'm in the top 5 to 10% of my age range for physical fitness. |
