Nice sticks! I've been seeing this recently, what's on top of the vortex, is it a level or a reticle illuminator of some sort? Looks like a level but I'm not sure why it would be there?

GuynamedDave, that thing is sick as fuck man. Very nice.

Level, so you can make sure the rifle isnt canted, for long range shooting..

I had intended to take some close-ups but the camera took a dive. I wanted to go a little more old school (cheap) with some of the accesories, and use parts I'd seen in military use. Here are the specs:

Colt 6920 LE Carbine
LW-50 Mid 1/8 dimpled barrel
Smith Vortex FH or Triple X suppressor
12" Larue rail w/GG&G QD socket
Harris S-BRM w/Podlock and Larue mount
Geissele SSA
BCM bolt/Colt FA carrier
Gasbuster CH
Leupold 1.5-4 Firedot w/Bobro mount
GG&G BUIS
Ergo PG
Vltor buffer tube/H buffer
1st Gen Vltor Modstock w/ziptied buttpad
Larue padded QD sling

Wow, I really like this rifle. Very well done and simple Recce!

Thanks, I've been piecing it together for some time. Lots of stuff from the EE. However, I did want to use all quality parts even if they weren't the latest hot item. So far I've resisted the call of the Keymod, and I knew I definitely didn't want one for this rifle.

I agree, I much prefer a standard FF quad rail over the keymod. My rifle had a 12" MI keymod when I got it and I did not like it. I would love to get a KAC or DD 12" on mine but for the money I LOVE my MI quad rail. I paid $80 on the EE for it
It took me 14 months to get my rifle setup the way I want it, and I went thru 3 other setups before arriving at its current configuration. You did it right by doing it the way you want the first time.

I think the biggest thing I dont like about the Mlok rail i have is they get hotter faster compared to a quad rail.

New is not always necessarily better, but some folk have a very hard time accepting that.

I also prefer a quad rail. I had a DD M4V11that I posted a couple of pages back, but didn't like the keymod. Traded it for a BCM with a DD RIS II, which is on the way :)

Folks have covered that it is a level already.  Cant in your reticle can have a great change in the point of impact on your rifle.  Cant is one of the things that plays into a proper sight alignment portion of the shooting fundamentals.

There is a nice write up on accurate shooter found here if anyone cares to learn more about the effects of cant.

You got pics of your rifle being shot and no range report or groups to show?  C'mon on, spill the beans.

I hope you got my last IM and thank you for thinking of me.

It may have taken a while for you to get where you wanted, but it looks like it was worth the effort. That is really nice. I'm normally not one for painted rifles, but that is a very slick rifle.

Finally got mine out for some function testing. Worked flawlessly for about a hundred rounds, then we had to pack up. I'll zero it, and shoot for groups the next outing.

http://i270.photobucket.com/albums/jj105/strela_photos/92ed948f-2007-4fa3-a7e1-b0e05601bf8d_zpsftt8jayf.jpg

I had intended to take some close-ups but the camera took a dive. I wanted to go a little more old school (cheap) with some of the accesories, and use parts I'd seen in military use. Here are the specs:

Colt 6920 LE Carbine
LW-50 Mid 1/8 dimpled barrel
Smith Vortex FH or Triple X suppressor
12" Larue rail w/GG&G QD socket
Harris S-BRM w/Podlock and Larue mount
Geissele SSA
BCM bolt/Colt FA carrier
Gasbuster CH
Leupold 1.5-4 Firedot w/Bobro mount
GG&G BUIS
Ergo PG
Vltor buffer tube/H buffer
1st Gen Vltor Modstock w/ziptied buttpad
Larue padded QD sling

Wow, I really like this rifle. Very well done and simple Recce!

Thanks, I've been piecing it together for some time. Lots of stuff from the EE. However, I did want to use all quality parts even if they weren't the latest hot item. So far I've resisted the call of the Keymod, and I knew I definitely didn't want one for this rifle.

You got pics of your rifle being shot and no range report or groups to show?  C'mon on, spill the beans.

I hope you got my last IM and thank you for thinking of me.

No groups, because we never had the chance to go down range and check them. We had to leave before they called a cease fire, because we spent too much time (and ammo) on the Tactical Range shooting this, and our new Powder Springs MAC 10. Some folks here say the novelty of FA wears out fast, but we sure haven't found that to be the case.

My son hasn't sent me pics of the MAC in action, but a suppressed .45 Cal buzzgun is way too much fun.

Finally close to finishing my KAC MRE Recce. Was going for a MSG Horrigan style, but with a few deviations. Still need its own bipod (borrowed from Mk12) and SBR'ed lower (borrowed this one from Mk18, excuse the tan grip). And a NT4 of course I wanted to do a Docter with the TRR/TRC setup but if I do I don't think I can get the eye relief where I want it.

Damn that thing looks good.

I say keep the tan (KAC I think?) PG on it. Thing looks killer as-is.

You don't really need a Docter piggy backing your Leupold. The 1.5X is fine for CQB. I was actually bang'in my 6" steel plate at 200yds before work today....I absolutely love this setup with that glass! I didn't think 5X would be sufficient enough. For grouping at distance, its a little difficult to see center of a target, but for steel, I know I could have had no problem at 300. (Furthest the range goes out to, and only after hours on Saturday) Shooting 75gr OTM that I rolled up this morning, zero'd at 50, confirmed at 200. My mod1 is getting jelly with all the attention the Recce is getting!

I don't have it in front of me, but I'd say the holes are about 1/4" diameter. I couldn't tell you where I got it from- it was a while back. I'll PM you.

You need to chop the FSB for the full Horrigan effect. Not a full shave and smooth, but just a straight dremel chop.

The barrel and rail from the CQBR? Are you the dude with the single colored taupe-ish paint I liked? (Mixed a little brown in the sprayer for the lower?) I don't wanna have to choke a mofo.....

If you are him, Keep. That. Shit. Please.

There's an easy solution for your issue. Load mag, put mag in magwell, charge weapon, pull trigger, smile as your teeth rattle.

Thou shalt not sell CQBR. It's a sin.

My mk18 style 10.5 is just block 0 right now. It shoulda been a retro 733 from the start. I liked shooting that upper on it. I will be going back to that one day with funds.

Oh ok. False alarm. Even tho wrong dude, as long as you're keeping the CQBR then all is well.

Good call on going Mk12, that's my next build. I was going to go Holland but ive been feeling kinda mod 1ish lately. (Was feeling mod 0ish before that)

I need to hit the lotto and build all 3.

Base coat of Krylon Khaki on everything. Followed that with Krylon "earth brown" randomly misted over random and sporadic spots, final coat is Krylon "Forrest green", sprayed through several handfuls of long grass from the side of the road. Turned out quite well. It's greener in person than the pictures show.

Natural lighting shows the green better

Some changes soon to be made:

Larue Stealth 16" barrel
Black BCG-- I'm not a fan of the shiny chrome contrast of the barrel and BCG
Light- that Primary Arms UWL is too heavy for me. Going on the EE today and being replaced with an Inforce WML

I added a VG and ARMS #71 BUIS set last weekend. (Painted to match of course)

look at that clearance

You oughtta be ashamed of yourself.

It wasn't quite clone, but I miss it. Of course, the proceeds were used to build a mk12, so it ain't all bad.
