I'm looking to possibly to invest in a duracoating on my weapons, my Ar and my new HK USP.
i didn't know if it was the right choice or idea. If it would server more then a cool factor as being a practical advantage in a urban environment I would do it.

its from EGI tactical which I saw a ad here on http://www.expertguns.com/shop/catalog/product_info.php?cPath=23&products_id=55

Thanks for looking and any advance given.

Duracoat looks good, and it also functions to protect your weapons.  Here are some I've done for people:

An AR in "magpul flat dark earth":

A FNL1A1 in digital woodland pattern:

A Ruger MK77 in a custom pink camo for a lady gun nut:

A holster/mag combo for the same lady:

I used Duracoat on my 1911 Colt Commander, flat black slide and OD green frame.  It's been done over a year and has held up well with almost daily carry.  It's EZ to do if you have any painting skills and are willing to take your time.  You do need an air brush to get a good smooth finish.
Good luck with your project.

Remember that is is extremely important to take your time.

I thought about painting my rifle with one of their patterns. I painted a knife instead and found out that I really didn't like it. But the knife does look good and holds up well. Just didn't want to keep it on my rifle.

I was going to pay the 80 dollars for the ar and 40-50 for the hk.  I painted my ng engine block once and it was a pain.

This is KG Gunkote....just another variation of modern stuff like Dura Coat...

The Hi-Power in this pic has been carried for about three years, very frequently and is just starting to show wear at the edges of the front of the slide due to typical carry wear.  The original blue finish of the weapon had been COMPLETELY worn off after about three years of carry.  I bought this weapon in 1992 or 93 and had fully worn the finish off by 1996.

Conversely, after refinishing back in 05 or 06.....there is very little noticeable wear.  To note: this finish is coated OVER a manganese phosphate finish,  It is highly reccommended to apply dura or KG over fresh, clean anodizing or parkerizing as these finished help firmly bond the paint to the metal.

I know this is the AR15 forum, but that is a beautiful Hi-Power.

I've never seen a reason to coat an AR, but the prices you posted look very reasonable.

spray paint

why pay for a fancy paint job?

I just did a couple rifles with spray paint (done 8-10 over the years) It’s even better now that Lowes has textured brown and tan to use as a base coat, takes all the shine right out of the finish. Used to have to use dirt, sand, saw dust to get it properly dull.
