I prefer vinegar based, but I’ve had all kinds and most recipes are good. Sometimes I’ll have it at Popeyes or KFC and it hits the spot. Other times I’ll have it at Gatlins BBQ in Houston and it’s completely different from any I’ve had anywhere else and it’s perfect with the collard greens and bbq chicken. |

I went to Sonic a while back with a craving for a chili/slaw hotdog. For some
perverse reason they no longer have slaw. |

Local Legion makes a heck of a good slaw vinegar based for their chicken dinner fund raisers. I have tried to make one close to it but I have never figured it out. I have had it at a few places where I finished eating it but swore I'd never order it from there again.

me. I mix it with everything. BBQ. Baked beans. Beef stew. Slaw dogs. Sausage dogs. Fried fish. It thins out greasy foods.

The fresh deli coleslaw at our local King Soopers (Kroger) is as good as KFC's.
White Fence Farm had some damn good slaw, too. |

I've never eaten it in my 53 years. I'm deathly allergic to carrots and I hear Miracal Whip is involved. Fuck that shit/

When Chick Fil A stopped offering it, they published the recipe. Here it is.
COLE SLAW 4 tsp distilled white vinegar ¼ cup sugar ¼ tsp dry mustard ¼ tsp salt 1 cup mayonnaise 2 10oz bags finely shredded cabbage, chopped ¼ cup carrots, diced PROCEDURE Whisk vinegar, sugar, mustard and salt together until sugar is dissolved. Add mayonnaise and whisk to mix. Add cabbage and carrots. Mix to combine. Refrigerate for 2 hours and serve. (Makes 6–8 servings). |

Good coleslaw is great. Anything less sucks. There's a good BBQ place near me with the shittiest slaw I've ever had. They can't figure it out for some reason.

Love coleslaw.
Matter of fact, i used it as a gauge for how good a DFAC was going to be when FOB hopping in afghanistan. They used to hire a bunch of local nationals to work in DFACs along with contract employees from all over the world. For instance, the Warrior DFAC on Bagram Air Field was run by a french company if i recall. If they over salted the coleslaw to match their taste desires, it was trash and generally most of the food there would be trash, severely limiting what i would eat. If the coleslaw was delicious and i went back for more, they generally cooked all the food properly. BAF and JBAD were good. FOB Gamberi was garbage. Kabul was garbage. Camp Marmal (by Mazar) was run by zee Germans and they didn't serve coleslaw, but zee German grub was quite tasty. There were a few others, but i can't remember at this point as many of them were pit stops waiting for the next flight. This same theory held true for the DFACs in Kuwait. |

Must not be sickly sweet. A sweet coleslaw to ruin whatever it’s served with is the worst…

I love coleslaw, but not just made, it has to set a bit first. Coleslaw that is just about to turn is the best.
And another vote for KFC slaw. It’s probably the childhood association but I love it. |

I love slaw, but prefer it savory and not sweet. My recipe always gets compliments.
1/2 head Cabbage - shredded 1 Carrot - grated 1 stalks Celery - thinly sliced 1/2 medium Yellow Onion - thinly sliced 1 Jalapeno - no seeds/thinly sliced Salt Pepper - heavy Mayo Italian Dressing* * I use a 2/3 Mayo & 1/3 Dressing mixture with everything lightly coated. I have also added Bacon Pieces, Sunflower Seeds and Purple Cabbage. You'll never want plain slaw again |

I love good coleslaw with fried seafood. Or on a chili dog. Or with a barbecue sandwich. All good.
