SHOW LOW, Ariz. - Show Low High School students arriving to school Tuesday morning were greeted by the Confederate flag painted in the parking lot along with people wearing the flag on their clothing and waving flags.
The Confederate flag is not an wholly uncommon sight around the town of Show Low, but the abundance made it clear that this was a demonstration.
"There were kids draped in Confederate flags everywhere," Show Low student Lauren Reed said. "There are still kids marching around the school with Confederate flags" on their shirts, hats or backpacks.
Reed snapped a picture of the scene and shared it on Twitter.

Reed believes this may stem from a situation between a young man with a Confederate flag on the back of his truck and the principal of the school, Farrell Adams. The young man, Reed said, would often hang out in the parking lot, and was eventually asked by Adams to leave.
"He took it as he was being forced to leave because of the Confederate flag," Reed said.
The painting appeared to be retaliation from the young man and his friends.
Adams did not immediately return a call from 12 News.
The community of Show Low and the school are not largely white, but the reaction to the demonstrations has been more diverse, with some joining the cause, some being offended and others marveling at the the strangeness of the situation.
The flag painting has since been covered up, but that may not be the end.
"They said they're going to make it bigger," Reed said.
