Hate to do this outside of the EE, but just trying all my options, im sure you all can understand. Anyone got any leads on a Daniel Defense octagonal handguard nut? Maybe even a whole M4 rail? Currently running the round nut M4 rail, but would prefer the ultra clone correct one.

The KAC stuff has gone full retard. CLE getting out of the public sales dealt a severe blow to the SAM-R clones specifically as they were the makers of the original barrels. I think BCM used to offer a SAM-R barrel but not sure they still do.

I just ordered one from BCM but was able to grab a couple from CLE just before they stopped doing public sales.

Contacted Conrad at CLE about the availability of SAM-R barrels. He said he has about 25 blanks left. Anyone interested will need to contact him through CLE's FB messenger.

Are these good to go?  I swear I heard QC had been slipping at CLE.  Don't want to shell out 650$ and then be sorry.

I have never gotten anything but top notch work from CLE. I have never even heard any issues with them. They are absolutely one of if not the best in the business when it comes to barrels.

I may not have the most up-to-date info, but I believe there was a staff reduction at the time CLE decided to move away from doing individual barrels, which may have contributed to my issue. While the two barrels I supplied seemed to have been done exceptionally well, I ordered two .260R barrels and received two 6.5CM chambered barrels. I have returned the barrels and am awaiting a full refund for their cost as well as the machining.

Came across a bunch of small clips of footage of the 3rd ID in Iraq in September 2007 on Getty Images and spotted an SDMR in the one in the link below. Not the clearest video, however you can definitely see the A2 buttstock, bipod, and the flaked stainless barrel. You can see it best once he gets past the G in the watermark. Again not the clearest quality, but still a good reference of their usage in 2007.

+1.    CLE 20" Krieger I got from Frank is a laser. Most accurate AR I own by far.

So I am fairly certain Conrad does not have any more barrels from this run. I believe I was the last one to pay for my barrel and help get the last three or four barrels claimed. He did let me know that the barrels were made on the same machines and stamped on the same machines as the originals, but the only difference will be the Krieger mark. They will also be serialized as that is a requirement from Krieger now.

A few of these pictures were already posted, but I added a couple that Conrad sent me when he was making the barrels last week.

Really happy i was able to get in on this last run of CLE barrels.

And Mocked up.

I still need to track down the correct set screw FSB (the one from CLE one is missing the sling swivel hangers). I saw some complaints about the Dez Arms one, but they seem to be the only game in town since WOA, Fulton and CLE stopped selling them.

What have you heard bad about the Dez Arms one? Now that you mentioned it, it occurred to me that the CLE FSB does NOT have swivel hangers. So now I'm in the market for the correct one as well.

Some issues with the finish, mainly it looks like a baked on paint instead of parkerizing. Mine is supposed to come this week so I’ll post some pictures.

Very interested in seeing photos. I contacted them about it and they that they are parkerized. So im.curious to see their parkerizing job. There's another outfit that sells the correct FSB called RGuns. If the Dez one is no good, I may order an RGuns one to see what it's like.

If it’s parkerized they did a poor job, there’s some missing finish and it just looks bad overall (Dez on the left, CLE on the right). I’m interested to see how the RGuns FSB compares. I’m  thinking of sending the Dez FSB to John Thomas for a repark.

Link Posted: 6/13/2024 11:27:32 AM EDT

Does look like a sparse park job. I think I'll pick up the RGuns one to check out. When I get it, I'll report back here with pics as you did. Luckily, all it should need at most is a repark which, for a small part like that, could be done at home even, if you have the stuff to do it. Thanks for sharing your findings with us!

Edit 6/16/24: RGuns FSB purchased 2 days ago and is on the way

Rguns set screw FSB with swivel hangers arrived today. I think it looks great. Parkerizing job doesn't look as sparse as the Dez FSB although it's a tad sparse than my CLE one. However, I think it looks good and more than acceptable. Here are some comparison photos I took for reference. Rguns FSB is on top of the CLE one which is on the rifle at the moment.

Hope this helps anyone who wishes to take their SDMR clones to the next level of clone correctness!

The base is real KAC. I was allowed to purchase it from a box of them. The flip is repro and I machined and modded to fit.

I'm going to have to do a Sammy build up again i guess

All mounted equipment is "dummy corded" with 550 cord tie downs as was extremely commonly done by GIs. These pieces of equipment were very expensive pieces of Government property and if they were to be lost or damaged, the soldier to whom they were issued was to recompense the government for the lost or damaged equipment. "Dummy cording" the equipment to the rifle ensured that if it by chance fell off of the rifle in combat, it would not be lost.

Small update on the PWS Repro sight:  James at War Machine has been working through a large contract and has not had the machine time to set up for production, but he is about 90% finished with the first block.  It's just a question of getting fixtures to work correctly and find the time to pump a few out.  He is leading me to believe he has the capacity to make 20.

Thanks a ton! I used Norrell's Moly Resin, using a 50/50 mixture of their "Gray-Black Colt Flat" and "Black Socom Flat" to achieve the 90s-early 2000s color.

Well I never thought I’d be able to make this post but after APSArmament came through with a FSGB that I got refinished in combination with a local anodizing shop for the sight tower and John Thomas for reparkerizing and install.  Can’t give John enough praise.  His work is phenomenal.

Here she is:

I had to settle for a 2.5-8 Mk4, not a 3-9 to be found.  Still looking for a rear sight.  Anything else I need to fix?

Repro PWS gas block update

I received an update from James regarding production.  Long story short, it is taking so long because 1) this is a side project he's adding into his normal workload and 2) the blocks can only be partially automated due to fixturing issues.  Once they are roughed out, he will have to meticulously hand finish them.

I sent an email out to everyone asking for quantities.  Please, if you did not hear from me, message me ASAP.
