[Last Edit: GoatBoy]
We have been hard at work for over a year on the design and development of the new website. The process took this long because we started with our data tier and worked all the way forward to the newly designed interface. This effort has included not only the code that runs the site, but everything down to the servers themselves, with much more power behind the scenes! To begin, don't panic! That's right, DO NOT PANIC! There will be some pretty drastic changes, but overall they are to improve things, and our teams of testers, made up entirely of your fellow users, have been enjoying the site enough to beg it to go live. The overall design and layout is similar when you get into the forums and threads. Navigation at the top of the page will be different however, with the use of drop down menus, versus the bar of communities and tools that exist on the current, now dubbed old, site. This is shown in the image above, where you can make out the typical top of the site. The user tools are much easier to see and use and have moved to the top right of the page. To ensure ease of use and the ability to jump to where you want to go quickly, we have added a sticky bar, barely visible in the second photo, which will keep all these links at your fingertips. A few other items of include the addition of amazon product sharing, where you simply need to grab the items ASIN number and a nicely formatted product listing will show up in your thread. We also have created a similar sharing mechanism for tweets, which will share a formatted tweet in your thread. Polls have received a facelift to look nicer and work within our framework. We have added user mentions where you can simply put @goatboy in your post and that user will receive a notification with a link to the mention. The new post editor is now a merged WYSIWYG editor and BBCode editor, so you can click a button to jump between the two to make sure it looks perfect. Media sharing for team members has been entirely rewritten to create a very easy to use interface in either editor. Bronze members have also been given the ability to attach images to threads, so all team members can simply upload a photo from their phones, or computers, and add them to a post. A lot of new smilies have been added (see image below) for those quick reply moments when you need a touch of levity. User avatars have been increased in size to allow for more self expression. With all of these additions, and more, the greatest feature of the new site is that it is entirely responsive , and will adjust to fit your device of choice. This means that viewing on a phone or tablet will be a much more enjoyable experience. We think that the more you use the new site, the more you will wonder what appealed to you from the old one! All of the changes mentioned are not where things end. There are an number of additional changes to the site which will be available at launch, as well as a number of additional upgrades coming in the following months. For those of you who enjoy social media, we are introducing several ways to share ARFCOM with friends on, and off the site, as well as earning special site awards for helping us to spread our firearm passion. The internet is a different space than it was years ago, and we've tried to not only handle what is available to everyone today, but to also plan for future changes and trends. So this brings us to the all important question. When will this new version of ARFCOM be released to everyone? When will the site change over? At this time things are being finalized and our estimate is a week or two away. (Possibly sooner!) We have been hard at work fixing bugs and adding new toys for all our testers and responding to all their feedback. The new site promises to be a massive upgrade, but also a continuation of our effort to improve its speed. The new code has been focused on lighter clients and also less resource intensive for our servers. Special thanks to everyone who has helped with testing and feedback! |

Thanks for not just being complacent at having the best firearms resource website in the world.
Seriously. With everything going on, the urge to not mess with success must have been strong...glad y'all fought it and worked towards making a great board even better. |

I am computer tarded. That being said, the site took a little getting used to at first. Ive only used the beta site since it came online.
I tried to go back to the old site but the new mobile site works better on my phone. I can't wait for this to go live! Goatboy has been working his ass off trying to keep up with all the reported bugs that the testers are finding. |

Great...........I hope it works better then the ''new and updated'' system we have at work. We switched over 4 months ago, still more bugs then a Louisiana swamp at dusk and works as well as a meth addict late for their hit.

The only part concerning me is the "drop down menus". For some reason both IE and Firefox do not seem to like them in my tablet. In some websites they work but in others they simply do not work at all.

I'm looking forward to seeing it go live, it's been fun testing it and trying to find bugs. Goatboy has been great about fixing stuff that everyone found. The new layout takes a few minutes to get used to, but I'm sure everyone will enjoy it.
Congrats to the staff who put this together, it's honestly the best version I've used since I joined. |

Ok a few answers...
No like button. After launch we will be adding a system that was suggested by a member, then discussed to fit this community more. It will not be a like system, but will allow users to input on a thread in a manner of speaking. I don't want to say too much yet. If it is found to suck or be hated, then we will turn it off. I think it has shaped up to be a nice addition. Again, will probably come into play early next year. Search was made simpler, but we can have a big ole thread about it and how to improve it more when it's live. If there are a few here who want to see it improve, email me so we can discuss your concerns. Beta testers volunteered in the team forum and everyone was added to the group. We also open beta testing to Lifers and Mods for their input. We have been working through testing and bug fixes for a couple months now. (Also allowed us time to finish a few extra features and finalize some other sections of the site.) No math required, but it is recommended. We would wait to #MAGA with Trump, but Trump needs his transition period and so do you guys. My hope is that by January, everyone will be able to hit the ground running and help make ARFCOM great again. The drop down menus are fine with all browsers, but if anyone here is running IE, not Edge, then you need to seriously consider a browser upgrade. IE 11 is 3 years old and anything older than that is ancient history. We suggest the latest versions of Firefox or Chrome, but Safari, Edge, and Opera should be fine as long as they are current. Again, browsers are FREE to upgrade, so find the one you like and upgrade it! All previous versions of the site are called "old" or "real old" versions. You can also refer to them as "ancient" or "classic" versions if you wish. |

Are you able to hover for preview in Active Topics or Search topics like you can when navigating the individual forums? Also, does the green arrow show up with search results as well?
Those would be sweet. |
