I miss my old 86 Toyota 4x4 I could go anywhere with that thing and beat the crap out of it. Bad thing was in the land of salt during the winter time it literally rusted apart.

It is far from unmolested though; it has a 5.3 Vortec and 4 link rear suspension and 35" tires . The outside has been kept original in appearance though. |

Better pic of the new truck. Now it's off to start reading up on mods...particularly the easiest suspension mods necessary to get some 285/75-16's on beadlocker wheels into the wheel wells. Then possibly some additional exterior lighting and a compressor setup in the tool box for airing up tires and front and rear ARB lockers. I'm a few months away from getting another Toyota 4x4 and a plain jane standard cab is high on my list this time. |

Not sure...the one I just picked up is an 06. I'm certainly not Tacoma savy yet...still learning as this is my first one.

I really like Toyota's, especially the older ones before they started using aluminum blocks but unfortunately they all have one big problem, they're rust buckets! If you notice, all the good looking rust free Toyota's in this thread are all located in non-rust belt states.
I'm not trying to crap on this thread, just the opposite I'm jealous and would love to own one. I spent a few months trying to find an nice '00-02 4runner w/4 wheel drive and less then 150k and no rust but couldn't find one. Sure I could try to find one from down south and bring it up but I'd use it as a DD meaning it would eventually turn into a rust bucket too. Its a shame I tell you |

I'm also going with a mild lift, 9500 Warn Ti winch and bumper (whenever they design one, no 2012 bumpers yet). Hopefully, Shrockworks will build one this year. I'm also looking for an 80's beater 4Runner or pickup to run the Chile Challenge next Feb. Jim |

I know what I want to do, and have come up with the following formula to make it happen: - [(expenses + busy weekends)^kids'r'spensive] + (free time x discretionary $)^mywifenotgivingmeahardtimeaboutit = sweet completed 4Runner project. Looks awesome. Great equation. I'm gonna have to steal that equation for future project planning. |

Just bought this 06 for $10k. It's only got 65k miles so I think I got a pretty good deal. 4cyl, 4x4, regular cab, and 6' bed. I'm not sure what I'm going to do to it yet but it definitely needs some tires. I'm considering a small lift and some 285/75-16 tires. Other than that no plans for now. Can't wait to pick it up on Thursday. CMS http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y7/cms81586/t10.png Hey nice truck Mine |

ETA: Dude, that is a seriously nice truck. |

They are cool and would be useful, but I found out way too late that they need modifications to stand up to heavy use. Only pic I still have of the topper on the truck: |

How does that Tacoma do towing that boat? |

How does that Tacoma do towing that boat? The truck I just got rid of was a 2500 Duramax, so not as good as that but I only go about 5 miles to the ramp. I figure the boat weighs about 4300, the truck is rated to tow 6500 so................... I wouldn't be afraid to go anywhere with it, but its not a turbo diesel lol. |
