Realized it's been awhile since I've watched this..probably overdue..
How soon till the calls to burn that film start happening? |
|
Since Richard Pryor is black & wrote much of the dialogue & Mel Brooks is Jewish & produced it, I don't see the outcry there would be over something a white male would have done.
|
|
It would be funny to see the reactions to that movie being made today.
I'm not calling for a remake, mind you. They've shat on enough of the classics already. Just think about all the PC liberal heads exploding. Worth it. |
|
|
I don't think there were any Confererate flags in it, so it's perfectly PC!

Watched the unedited version last weekend - my wife said that they couldn't make that movie today and she's right.

Funny show. Like Django, the only sane person in the movie was black. So I'm not sure why you guys don't believe it could be made today.

View Quote Do you REALLY think any of the usual suspects even KNOW that Pryor was one of the writers?????? All they care about is that "N" was used X number of times. Brooks could do modern remakes of EVERY other film he did..except for Blazing Saddles, which IMO is in the top 3 Laugh-wise. |

Watched the unedited version last weekend - my wife said that they couldn't don't have the balls to make that movie today and she's right. FIFY They didnt have the Balls THEN........Mel just ignored the directive to cut out the "Offensive" stuff, except for one line * and released as is.....if the Movie hadnt been such an incredible success it would have been the end of Brooks' career * When the lights go out and Lilli Von Schtupp Says "It's Twuwe, It's Twuwe, "it's Weawwy TWUWE!!!!!" Cleavon Little says "Thank you for the compliment Ma'am...but you're sucking on my Elbow" |

Saw it back in the day first run at the theater, people literally fell out of their seats and doubled over on a few of the scenes.

The movie lampoons racism. Stupid people on both sides of the political spectrum fail to recognize that. |

My favorite comedy of all times

I remember watching that movie back when Cable Tv and HBO were first available in My area...
It was right around 1980 or 1981... I laughed My balls off watching that movie on HBO and Prism... |
|
I bought it back when it first came out on Blu ray.
Hilarious. |

My kids just saw it for the first time and couldn't believe what they were seeing. Laughed all the way through, though.

View Quote I first saw it with my NEW in-laws that I'd only known for a couple of days. The movie had just been released and we had no idea of what it was like. I thought they were going to crawl under their seats! They were so red that that they almost glowed in the dark! But I was HOWLING with laughter. Which, of course, embarrassed them even more! They were so embarrassed by everything that they avoided me for the next several days! |

I don't think it will ever go away. Fortunately it mocks so many stereotypes it's obvious that it is sarcasm and tongue in cheek. That is the beauty of Mel Brooks' works; they're obvious deriding farces. Nobody and nothing is sacred.

Where the white women at?
Rape,murder,arson,and rape............ |

From the same era, how about the kid Tanner's outburst in the original Bad News Bears?

You have to understand that these are simple farmers...
These are people of the land...the common clay of the American West... You know..... Morons! |

No, one they ignore since reproducible statistics and corroborated accounts - we call them "facts" - don't support any of their positions. |

It was priceless seeing the look on the faces of our Australian Army advisors on my team when I showed them Blazing Saddles. They were both shocked and amused.
