I have a stainless Springfield Champion that I’ve been very happy with. I bought it years before the made their political bed. Not really commander size as it 4” not 4 1/4”. I can’t comment on other brands. Eventually I’m going to be asking similar question but for a full size. Just other stuff I have higher priority on. The Glock boys just don’t understand. I bought a couple Glocks before I finally got the champion. I did it wrong.

Dan Wesson Vigil Commander in .45 acp, has an alloy frame which makes it much lighter and for some reason recoil doesn't seem to be much worse with the lighter frame. Buy right the first time, otherwise its a waste of time and money not to mention your frustration.
Anyway, there is a way to lease the gun with a 90-day early buy-out option, saving a bunch on interest and fees, they send it to your ffl as soon as you get authorized and make that first payment. I've bought a couple of firearms through them this way when I didn't have that big lump sum available all at once. GunZoneDeals |

Ha ha. this thread made me realize my Rem R1 Threaded is a collectors item now.
Very loosely speaking ;) Oh, vote for RIA. And don't drink the 10mm coolaid. Personal Protection: 10mm vs .45 ACP |

That coupled with the lower mag capacity and knowing many 1911s have reliability issues, do you really want one for a concealed carry gun? I thought you were looking for a BBQ gun on a budget. |

Also SA Range Officer. Mine was 750ish a couple years ago. Looks like 950ish now.

They sure carry nice. I see as many glocks malfunction as 1911s at competitions. The unreliable 1911 myth is just that. Capacity? Yeah, you need to reload more to shoot 100 rounds. Its not really a rational real world concern. You're not laying down suppressive fire. Attached File |

In this political climate I would not be spending $1000 on any 1911 that I couldn’t flip tomorrow for a healthy profit. Then I’d take that profit and buy a more useful gun you won’t be able to in a year or two.
Look at it like this... 1911s are so crappy, liberals aren’t even trying to ban them or their mags. Fact. |

Quoted: I'm bumped up to $1,200 so a DW may be in reach now? View Quote Over the years I've had a number of standard sized 1911s in which all of the few issues were related to cheap magazines. I've also had a couple of the reduced sized 1911s that had issues that good magazines just didn't fix. I guess what I'm trying to say here is: In my experience, (and unless there has some new miracle fix developed), scaled down 1911s can have issues which full sized 1911s don't. Same with double stack 1911s. YMMV...but remember - if you're intent upon trusting your life to a handgun, you likely want reliability over form. |

View Quote I carry an M&P 9c, and going to be transitioning to a Commander size 1911 after I confirm its reliable. I already have holster, so I have been wearing it on occasion getting everything broken in. The difference in the two is actually quite minimal. Yes, the 1911 weighs more, but its not really even noticeable once its on your person and in a good holster. The slide on the M&P is basically the same length, maybe 0.25" difference. The grip on the 1911 is 1" longer. These differences are rather minimal and they are not going to make or break carrying for most people and most scenarios. Before polymer framed pistols, everyone used to carry steel, it wasn't an issue back then and its not an issue today. |

I know this isn't in the OPs $1k price range, but I do like what the CCS is putting out these days. Just this past week I found two Colt models I liked. These are some of the best fit I've ever seen from Colt.
