Yes, a few times. I would recommend it, since its a great hotel and a true enjoyment.
It's in Estees Park, gateway to Rocky Mountain National Park.

The TV adaptation miniseries was filmed at the Stanley Hotel. None of the original movie was.

I've stayed there numerous times. Good place, and a great whiskey bar downstairs. Good breakfast in the morning, too. Just the right thing to fuel up with before a long day of hiking.

Ah Ha - it seems you are correct, Sir, upon further interwebs searching.
It was just on cable (for the 100th time), and that struck the fancy.
Where was shining filmed?
Parts of the television mini-series version of The Shining were filmed there, whereas Stanley Kubrick 's cinematic adaptation The Shining was filmed in sets built at Elstree Studios in England (some of the exteriors showed the Timberline Lodge in Oregon, and others showed a set based on a truncated version of that hotel).

Yes, I have seen it at least a dozen times- can't get enough! Jack at his most productive is when he's bouncing a tennis ball off the walls.

There is a channel on every TV in the hotel that only shows The Shining, and nothing else.

Been there,
Way Overpriced for what it is.
Pretentious Ghost nerds everywhere.
The only cool thing I learned was they filmed a lot of dumb and dumber there, including the "No way? WE LANDED ON THE MOON!" Line.

Timberline Lodge was the one from The Shining, stayed there for a friends 12th birthday and watched the movie. It was pretty scary.

I think I posted some shots from when I went skiing there a couple years ago. Cool place.
From the wiki entry...
The room number 217 has been changed to 237. Timberline Lodge, located on Mt. Hood in Oregon, was used for the exterior shots of the fictional Overlook Hotel. The Lodge requested that Kubrick not depict Room 217 (featured in the book) in The Shining, because future guests at the Lodge might be afraid to stay there, and a nonexistent room, 237, was substituted in the film. Contrary to the hotel's expectations, Room 217 is requested more often than any other room at Timberline.

I stayed there about 16 years ago... I was young.
There was a wedding going on. Only stayed one night with my mom.
It was HOT. They ran out of fans for the rooms...
The music from the wedding came through the walls just enough to be creepy as hell.
It was fun though. Beautiful hotel.

Yes, I have stayed there. January of 1987. It was not filmed there, it was written there.

The confusion comes because Stephen King got his inspiration for writing the book while staying at the Stanley.

The room was hot and the bed sunk in the middle. There was a channel that played The Shining 24/7.
It was neat and I'm glad we stayed there but only for the history of the place.

Great place. Take the history tour not the ghost tour, unless you're into that kind of thing.

The GF and I are going next week, staying there and in Vail.
Should be fun.

We'd planned for 2 nights. After one sleepless night in a filthy room we cancelled the next night and got everything refunded.
Big disappointment as it had been a bucket list sort of thing for me.
