How old you think that girl is?
I can't wait to start doing stuff like that with my son. Well, not 1100 yard moose shots, but hunting. (He's been crabbing and hiking with me. Is 15 mos.) |

Nice shot , I am not sure 1100 yards . The sound to hit seemed short for 1100

He seemed confident his daughter wouldn't wade into the water while his back was turned, and that there were no bear nearby that might be attracted to the meat and find Gretta to be a special treat. |

He didn't just shoot it, he dropped it where it stood. Fine shooting right there.

I got a bull moose on a solo hunt last month. Skinned, butchered and packed out on my own in the dark. Kicked my ass. View Quote View All Quotes View All Quotes Quoted:

...
Had moose tacos for my 54th b'day last Wednesday...and moose-loaf for dinner tonight...damn good eating. |

Fantastic shot
I'm not sure I would expose MY kid to that sort of thing that early, particularly carving up a corpse, but credit to him for involving his kids. And that shot is just incredible |

Mooses is great tasting...we took an Alaskan moose with a 48 inch rack. I've heard that older Moose (with larger racks) are not as good. |

I've had some that even crockpotting wouldn't get all the flavor out. On the other hand, I've had some that was barely legal minimum that was amazing, and the whole range between. Rule of thumb is to cook it with garlic and onion. |

I shot a bear off the porch of a cabin and dropped it near the outhouse. Kids came out and helped me cut it I'm up. The helped out where they could by holding legs back while I cut and things like that. At 4 and 6 they both thought it was fascinating and not gross at all. Of course they were both shooting at the age of 3 and grew up eating game. ETA. Just saw the emphasis on "MY". Understood and copy that. |

If they grow up around it they aren't grossed out in the least. A city kid who's never been around it ever will be all grossed out by the blood, guts and process. |

One of my favorite hunting vids is the one with the European kid slaying pigs on the run with rapid bolt action shots.

Cool. Thanks. I thought maybe it was a dud. https://youtu.be/Q_XX2lIT1tQ LOL, that was sweet....Could have been one of the magnum 338's as well rum,LM, weatherby but the 300 rum is popular enough that most storess have ammo for it most of the time..our group has 4 of us shooting it now and at least one getting ready to for next season... Regardless, nice shot the guy made...looked like it spined the bull ,judging by the way the rear legs folded... |

Growing up, and what my folks still do is hang it in the garage for a week and spritz it with citric acid to form that 'skin'. I'll have to give that thread a read. |

I haven't had a problem with gamey moose although every now and again I'll get a bite that tastes slightly gamey. Certainly not the whole moose though.
Of course my family also likes black bear meat so maybe we are just screwy as a lot of people say they don't like it. I am very particular with my meat care as well. |
