I'm sure this is an original thread so there is probably no reason to rehash it. But what round is better in a 1911 for CCW?

10mm beats .45ACP like a red-rented stepmule.

10mm > 45acp.

10mm has more power at 100 yards than a 45acp has at the muzzle.

.45 ACP - see Federal HST, Winchester Ranget-T, etc

If 10mm cost what .45 costs, most of my weapons would be in 10mm.

I have owned both and currently shoot .45acp exclusively.  It adequately suits my purposes without raping my wallet.

With that being said, I think a 10mm is infinately superior as a woods gun.   Costs be damned.

Yes but 10mm produces a mushroom cloud

Personally I don't want to get shot with either

Shoot .45 Super in your 1911 .45 and the the 10mm quickly becomes a second best..

Try Buffalo Bore  .45 Super 255 grain Hard cast at 1075 FPS.

You have broken the internet.

.45 ACP belongs to the 1911 platform.

10mm is a fantastic round. The 1911 platform loves it.

I own multiples of both as well as reload for both .

Unless your looking at 45 super or 460 Rowland the 10mm by a mile.    In my area 10mm is easy to buy and is priced pretty much the same as .45acp.

I love .45 (I have 2 1911s and a USP)...but honestly find myself wanting a 10mm.

Firing a 10MM Glock compact made my fillings and sinuses rattle...it was exquisite.

what size of gun?

Officer?  I'd think you'd not have the barrel length to really start appreciating the 10mm, and the smaller package would be a real handful in 10mm so for that size I'd say stick with 45.

Beyond that, 10mm is better if your pocketbook and skillset can handle it.

Neither.

No bears around here (no need for 10mm), and my penis is just fantastic in both length and girth (no need for .45).

Serious answer OP,

Neither. Look into 45 Super. It's 10mm power in a 45 ACP case, and can be shot out of most 45 ACP's with just a spring upgrade.

Some guns are designed to be able to shoot it out of the box. (HKUSP45 is one)

My Sig P220ST see's a steady diet of it, and my XDS45 has also been fed a few mags of it.

cost is the same as 10mm... and it's fun to shoot. Underwood ammo is where I get my ammo from for it.

As much as I love 10mm I'll buck the trend and say out of the choices, .45.
10mm is more fun out of guns made around modern ballistics and capabilities that the 10mm can perform to. G20's, Witnesses, S&W Thrid gens and the like.

NOT arbitrarily limiting it to two choices, the best round for 1911's is .38 super since it's native to the 19xx pistol line.
Link Posted: 11/12/2016 1:31:32 AM EDT
[#40]
Another thing to bear in mind is modern ammo made the need for 10mm power obsolete for use against stopping bad guys.  So unless you're going to use it to CCW for protection against people AND animals 10mm is never going to be used to it's full potential, because for ccw around town it's all about speed and accuracy.

MAN WHO ARGUES ONE SHOT DEATH BY PROUD MILITARY CALIBERS IS FUCKING FOOL. I EXPLAIN WHY.

THIS MAN LOOKS FOR PISTOL TO HIDE ON PERSON TO SHOOT MAN FROM STREET WHO WOULD DO CRIME TO HIM. MAN WHO WOULD DO CRIME IS NOT LIKE BANZAI CHARGE OF JAPANESE INFANTRY. HE IS NOT IN "GROUND OF DEATH" FROM EPISTLE OF WISE SUN TZU. MAN WHO WOULD DO CRIME IS NOT FIGHTING FOR LIFE OR FREEDOM OF PEOPLE. HE FIGHT ONLY FOR THINGS, HE CAN GET SOMEWHERE ELSE FROM SOMEONE ELSE. THIS MAN DOES NOT FIGHT TO DEATH. THIS MAN FIGHT ONLY UNTIL IS CLEAR MAN WITH PISTOL RESISTS AND SO HE RUN AWAY.

PISTOL OF 9 MILLIMETERS OR CALIBER OF .45 IS GREAT SHOCKING HOLE IN BODY. IS GIANT SPOUT OF BLOOD AND PAIN OF MORTAL WOUND. MORE MEN DIE FROM BULLET OF THESE TWO CALIBERS THAN ALL OTHERS IN HISTORY OF WORLD.

I ADVISE AND YOU LISTEN. LAST TIME ARMY CARRY BAD PISTOL INTO COMBAT WAS NAMBU OF JAPANESE EMPIRE. SINCE THAT TIME MILLIONS OF MEN CARRY PISTOL OF 9 MILLIMETERS. IS GOOD ENOUGH FOR THEM WITH STUPID GENEVA TREATY BALL BULLET. IS GOOD ENOUGH FOR YOU WITH TEN ROUBLES PER CARTRIDGE HOLLOW NOSE BULLET AND FANCY BRASS OF NICKEL PLATING. YOU PRACTICE WITH MANY MAGAZINE, YOU CARRY MANY CARTRIDGE. WHEN MAN WAVES GUN AT YOU, FILL HIM WITH BULLETS FAST AND STRAIGHT. MORE HOLES IS BETTER THAN BIG HOLES. CARRY PISTOL WITH LARGE MAGAZINE AND MANY CARTRIDGE.

IN THIS WAY YOU DEFEAT CRIMINAL.

Whoopie-fucking-doo!

A 2 dimensional, static represenation of a very dynamic event which occurs in 4 dimensions.  (The 4th being time).

Until somebody comes up with a way to hook a seismograph to a standardized block of ballistic gelatin, in my humble and non expert opinion, that picture means jack shit.

This is a better representation only because I couldn't find a slow motion .gif:
