While I often use a PC to do my online streaming, we bought one of these fire sticks and put Kodi on it. I'm not impressed. It's slow, clunky, half the time never loads, etc. A waste of money IMHO.

I have Firestick and Roku.
The Firestick is an inferior product by a wide margin. |

People say they're "cutting the cord," but you still have to pay for high-speed internet. Around here, you can get a bundle package that costs you maybe $10 more than just paying for internet that will get you basic cable as well. I don't see where it's saving you very much when you have to pay $14 a month for Netflix, $99 a year for Amazon Prime, $12 a month for Hulu, etc...
|

we have 5 phones in the house, all with unlimited data.
we can use the phone hotspot and ditch the comcast internet package too. i plan to jailbreak the firesticks... so thats not an issue. 119,000 reviews on amazon was enough to sell me on the firestick. i also have an antenna in the attic that gets me all the local stuff in HD. We also already pay for amazon prime... so no addl expenses here other than initial purchase price for the stick. we will dump comcast entirely and save $165/mo |

It's $30 more here for basic cable, and I'd much rather have Netflix. And it costs less. I pay for Prime for the shipping, so the video is just a bonus. View Quote View All Quotes View All Quotes Quoted:

Do it, kodi is easy to install on it. Monday I’m call time Warner Monday and cancel they’re service
|

I do speed tests. My cable modem gives us 60/mbps. Cell phone gets 75/mbps. That’s not good enough for 4k?

One final FYI, Comcast broadband also has a monthly cap on the standard residential service. It's 2 terabytes a month. For a long while they were not enforcing it, I don't know if they are now or not. I had to have my modem replaced a few months ago, the tech that showed up did mention he has seen people throttled due to huge amounts of data every month, usually using bit torrent. I don't and I don't think I have ever hit it, if I have, they have not cared yet.
I work from home using Comcast standard service and stream mostly HD video in the background all day long, they have never throttled me. |

OP there are better options in my opinion. Look into Hustler or Francis. Or a steel whip cut to the band
|

Quoted: But again, you're NOT actually cutting the cord---you're still paying the cable company for high-speed internet, and they charge you more for it if you get it by itself. View Quote i would pay for that no matter what.. im ok with that . for that 54.99 i get every show ever aired ( ok almost ) this includes the entire library of hulu / netflix / and amazon i used to pay for IPTV service every channel / every PPV event / everything for 12.99 a month.. then i learned how to find the streams my self and host them . then even learned how to create an EPG for it.. so my cost of 54.99 gets me internet that gets me EVERYTHING ELSE if your expecting to get an over the air ant to get you all the above. thats not going to happen you need internet |

Lol@ any of you that pay for tv, online streamed or otherwise

No you won't. It works as a package. If you drop your TV and just keep your internet they will raise the monthly cost of your internet. It is still cheaper, at least for me, but you can't just cut out the cost of your tv and keep your comcast internet at the same rate. At least I could not. Dropping the cable package saved $154/mo . We were already paying for nexflix and Amazon Prime, so we added Hulu. So we saved $154-$12=$142. That is a big fucking win for me. Even paying for all the little services its still money saved.

Is this where you drop Net Neutrality in? I don't know what fire stick really does, have a kodi box but quit using it about a year ago.

Is this where you drop Net Neutrality in? I don't know what fire stick really does, have a kodi box but quit using it about a year ago. View Quote It sounds like elsewhere has recently changed, I don't know the details of the latter. Two people I know ended up getting notices from Comcast/content creators (in this case MTV) to "knock it off" in their mail after using bit torrent and other...sources to stream video. The notices contained references to what they had sourced, one being Teen Mom 2 of all fucking things. He admitted he did download a season of it via bit torrent for his wife. Apparently Comcast has some sort of strike system and after X strikes they will cut service for a year. That's what the notice said anyway. In addition to having my own personal morals on the topic, I use my connection for my job and my employer pays for it. As such, I stick to legitimate sources and pay for content if I want to see it bad enough. Kodi itself, like a peer to peer sharing platform such as bit torrent are perfectly legitimate. Things just get hairy when people use them to do things that are questionable. This topic has been known to lead to lengthy discussions about what is legal, who is at fault, the host or the client, who the host is, considering it is almost always fragmented etc. |

I have Kodi on the firestick. Maybe I'm "doing it wrong" but I don't see it as a replacement for cable. It's great if you know exactly what you're looking for,but it's a pain to browse from.

Comcast Business Class doesn't have caps on data usage, just thought I'd mention that. And for $5 more, they give a basic TV offering that has like 20 channels.

Enjoy the set up on the fire stick.
My idiot self just set it up along with a echo dot and smart outlet plugs, all i can say it was not that fun. The mistake i made is i was trying to run the apps on my gaming computer that is hard wired to the network. After i grabbed a smart phone and used it for the apps the set up was easy. Also never try to set up 3 things at one time and get them working together do it one at a time. |

Well the firesticks arrived today and all i can say is its a big fat waste of fucking money.
Went through all the kodi bullshit... which took fucking hours... only to find that most of the shit i click on takes forever to load, or wont load at all. I dont have the fucking patience for this stupid bullshit. I want to turn the goddamn tv on, pick a program and watch it. What a waste of time. My wife is now on the www trying to figure out how to use the damn thing since im now done with it. |
