Sitting here watching a show about Alec Kreider, who killed his friend and his friend's parents.  This was local to me and a VERY big deal around here.

He confessed to his dad and his dad debated turning him in or not.  This is mind-blowing to me but I don't have kids so I don't have any real comparison.  How in the hell can your son tell you he stabbed 3 people to death and your reply is along the lines of "well telling the police won't help you or bring them back"???

The whole first part of the show was him saying they (Alec's parents) never really disciplined him when he was young, they'd just talk about feelings or threaten time-outs or take his toys (but then give them back anyway).  Good job you piece of shit.  A+ job.

Now he just said he "failed" his son by not throwing the murder weapon in the river.  Now talking to his pastor about what to do.  Fuck this guy.

No because my son wouldn't murder 3, he's more ambitious than that

I don’t have any children. If I did I would think my job in life would be to protect them . That’s the way I was raised . I know my parents would have certainly lost any “evidence “ in a boating accident.

Because he was born broken and had anger issues his entire life but you were a ponytail-having fairy who wouldn't take charge and raise the kid because you didn't want to upset him so he snuck into his friend's house late at night and stabbed him and his parents to death for no real reason other than "he did say Kevin had been annoying him".

Fun fact about this case: There was a daughter who escaped the house during the commotion and went for help.  She was the #1 suspect for a long time because she didn't react correctly or have an emotional enough reaction.  That's some mighty fine police work boys.

I think a better question would be, would you help your son conceal three killings you knew were justifiable but which you were reasonably sure he stood a good chance of having his life ruined by if caught?

If he murdered two shitbags in a robbery to steal their drugs: YES.

Would you help him complete his murder if his life was endangered by his victim's self defense?

This was local to me.  Dad rightly turned his son in, and the son got the needle a few years ago.  Good on dad, no matter how hard it was for him.

Do you mean killing a victim to hide the crime?  No.

But I’d help him get to Mexico.

I’d also make sure he never hurt anyone again.

As someone who understands morals as merely an academic subject, it brings up a dilemma.

No, turning him in doesn't do him and good, and no, it won't bring back the three people he killed.

Yes, it probably stopped him from killing more people.

They would be classified as those things by me obviously.   Maybe not by some..    The OP didn't previously say he was specifically referring to the situation in the OP but apparently he is..   In that situation.   Yes I would.

My kids are raised to be responsible for their actions, they would expect to be turned in.  They are also raised to protect innocent people and those that can't stand up for themselves.
No parent wants to turn their child in, but if they murdered people, who's to say you are not next on the list.

This.  You could never just say a blanket yes without knowing the situation, but I have a hard time thinking of one that wouldn't be self defense related in which I wouldn't turn them in.

Maybe I don’t have a moral compass.  Maybe my sense of loyalty to my blood is misplaced.  But I agree.

I have never been put in anything remotely close to that situation.  That being said, that is my son.  There is nothing I wouldn’t do to protect him with no regard to what the consequences are to me.  The only exception would be if I knew my boy was truly insane and had no hope of getting better.  And I am not even sure then.

No, I mean you're present when he tries to kill someone.  Straight up attempted murder.  But his intended victim fights back and now your son's life is in danger because of a botched murder attempt.

What do you do?
