What do you think of my "Danny Archer" inspired CAR-15? Obviously not an exact clone. I know I'm almost 20 yrs late to the party, but I got a bug up my ass to do one after watching "Blood Diamond" last month. Been a while since I've seen it. I'd say 90% of the build is PSA parts. Since it wasn't a true clone, I decided to do more of an M81 woodland job on it. I just need to put the tape switch back on.
Let's see your clones, or movie inspired builds. Attached File |

I like it. Which Aimpoint did you go with?
Does anybody have a Chris Kyle or Randy Shughart clone? |

Looks good. I’m piecing one together now
Is that the PSA TIA muzzle device? |

Nice. I've been wanting to build a Gary Gordon rifle clone myself.

Good dispersion of the wide black bands and light colors to make it not look like a stick.
Matte finish for no reflections is great. I give it a 9/10 overall, could use some small details of dark in light areas and light in dark areas but that's just for close up look cool stuff without breaking the wide band light/dark alterations so it looks more pretty close up. That looks like a great "field expedient" paint job which is very effective. It doesn't have the problems of marpat and other "high-density" color changing camo patterns where after 10 yards, they look tan or green sticks/people instead of actually hiding the actual outline. |

Awesome. Thanks for the reply. Hopefully mine will arrive soon and I can finish my build.

Oh why not…
Attached File Somewhere between a BHD and actual Gothic Serpent clone (with liberties taken for usefulness). |

Looking at photos it almost looks like they cut it to some off length in-between 10.5 and 11.5. Obviously, as a chopped M-16A2 it will have some odd things about it that a real gun from the period would not have had.
I do want to do a clone, but reflecting what an actual gun from the year in which it was set might have had. Were 10.5" barrels around in the late 1990s? Of not, I'm debating between 10" like the early carbines and the later 11.5". The moderator is also one made by the prop guys and looks like it's in-between the first and second gen moderators lengthwise, so I'm debating between the two gens, although I think first gen would look best as an imitation. Too bad functional moderators are considered suppressors. So dumb. |

What’s the best moderator to buy?
Anything plug n play to pin a 11.5” barrel? |
