In other words FMR ( ? me running ).
Due to recent issues ( none of anybodies business)my primary care doctor is wanting wants me to have some cognitive tests. Providers for the test should be contacting me next week. What am I in for. Update 3-17-24 Please bare with me as I have no idea how to explain the following. I will do my best. First the 2 incidents. The first incident. I went to my usual barber somewhere near downtown KC for my monthly haircut and shave. Afterwards I went to my car, you know to drive home. KC Police helped me tremendously. Second incident. I went to a doctors appointment just across the state line in Kansas. All went well until I went to drive home. I was well past Columbia Missouri when my lady called me asking if I was alright and when I would be home. I told her I would be home in 3 hours or so. She asked me where I was headed. My reply Home. She then asked where my home was. XXXX Montrose XXX near Scott Airforce base Illinois I reply. That was lost in divorce 4 years or so ago. When I watch TV or reading on my phone and I want to read or learn about something I will go to Google it and I will have forgotten what I wanted to Google. I am talking less than a minute. SMH On May 5th I went to the ER for a piece of glass in my heel and end up being admitted because of my heart or rather lack of. Keep in mind I have congestive heart failure and many other health issues. My chest lungs start to collect fluids. I then cough hard so much so my heart and breathing has stopped 5 times in the past 4 years. Well it happened when I was in the hospital. Nurses and the Doctor freaked out. No it was not a heart attack. A pulmonologists had me walk with the oxygen finger sensor thing. My oxygen was 84%. Lying down resting it is 86 to 88%. Woa boy now I have a oxygen tube thing shoved up my nose. Not even Kool!!!!!!!. My Cardiologist, Pulmonologist and Primary Care physicians think my memory loss is due to oxygen deprivation. I am scheduled for a Cat scan, MRI something in 6 weeks. To see the Neuro doctor is mid October . Moving on Arfcom has many great members. Duke117 is one of the greats here. As per your advice. Almost everything is now in order. Power of attorney done. Living will and directives done. Will updated. Insurance policies paid annually and automatically. Most of my toys have already been distributed. I am working feverishly to finish and distribute all 80%, P80's and 80% 1911's before I forget what I am doing. I even confirmed with my liar that insurance checks will be distributed in person here in KC. Remember my Ex will receive a note telling her it is far more than she deserves. A insurance check for $1.00. That is a slap in the face from a dead man ;). This is all I have at the present ETA. My Credit Union called me earlier this week and asked me what wgoing on. I would enter a new password and match it perfectly. When I went to login I couldn't remember it. This went on multiple times before I figured out to write the M Fffing password down before I started. Wow I am fucked lol |

What battery are they proposing for you?
That will determine the level of ass pain and irritation... A full cog sceeen is 2, 8 hr. days of shenanigans... |
|
Be careful. If you tell them you frequent GD, they’ll put you on the crazy pills.

Draw the clock and remember the three words. Or politely decline. BP, heart rate / rhythm, lungs, bloodwork. Otherwise thanks but no thanks.

One of the symptoms of dementia and Alzheimer's are sudden unexplained mood swings. Such as telling everyone your personal business then in the next sentence telling them it is none of their business.

My dad has done a few.
I was shown the tests before he did them and I would have failed miserably. |

Don't sweat it.
It's not like you'll remember taking it a half hour later. |

It's called the MME. At least the easy one the pcp gives you. Mini mental exam??? (School was q long time ago.)
Take a random number 53 say, and add or subtract by sevens. Unless you're beyond this. |

Sir your getting old. Please consider sending all your firearms and ammo to me so they will be properly treated during your mental absence.

Don’t worry. Biden has moved the bar very low now. The fact that you can spell 2&3 letter words indicates you will pass with flying colors.

I failed the cognitive tests my neurologist gave me (as well as short-term memory recall) and was diagnosed with dementia (mild to moderate). He started me on an Alzheimer's medication. Worst case scenario... it can take years before you succumb to the disease. Best case... you die within a year or two. I hope to have the latter. Good luck and wish you the best!

Mom just had one Tuesday. They said to prepare for 4-8 hours but we got there at 1:00, consultation lasted until 2:00 and she was done by 4:30.
I suspect they had more to do but just gave up. She did not want to be there and she gave me the impression on the way home that she answered everything with, "I don't know." Kind of sucks because she really does function ok in day to day life as far as taking care of herself but if you give her 5 words and ask her what they were a few minutes later she'll be lucky to get 1 (even though many times she DOES know because she'll insist she has no idea but tell her to just make something up and she'll sure enough name a few---she just doesn't remember that she heard them so she thinks she's pulling them out at random). So my advice would be to go with your gut on those answers even if you think you don't know----they're floating around in there somewhere. Alternatively, if you want to cut it short and get on with your day just answer, "I don't know" for everything. |

Well, I wasn't actually serious but I don't believe they have the capacity for that. The family can use the recommendation as evidence for the need to have it done or DPS can make the call with the test they have for elderly drivers but I doubt the neuro-psych testing folks just stamp a paper and you can't drive anymore. We're grateful in a way that the stroke knocked out her peripheral vision so there is a physical reason she can't drive. I think it would be harder for her to accept if we just said we didn't think she was mentally capable of it anymore. |

This is a serious question
why bother doing the test? if it turns out you have dementia what can they do for you? |

I wish you well OP. This stuff is no joke.
Here's to hoping you're just plain 'tarded |

I worked with a guy who had retired from the Marines.
One day he made the comment "I'm not crazy, they had me tested". I smirked as though he was just joking. He said no, seriously, his drill instructor sent him for a psych evaluation. He said the results came back "knows the difference between right and wrong but consciously decides to do wrong. No psychological issues found" |
