[Last Edit: home_alone1]
I was planning a Tikka 6.5 build but then I got I went off and bought a Winchester 70 , pre 64 target in 30-06.
Just got a scope , Leupold MK4 TMR 3.5-10x40 I need a good suggestion on a scope base , I’d like it to be a 1 piece but with it cutout for loading. The 30-06 target rifle had pre 64 magnum spacing on the rear holes. Might be a big ask . I might just have to settle with a set of 2 piece Leupold DD rings. As far as stocks go , what has everyone used to cram a Winchester into . I’d love to see pics I plan on using this rifle for steel out to 1350. So excited. Got the rifle back from LRI today !! My ex fil had a pre64 model 70 featherweight in 30.06. He had some really basic accurizing work done (free float barrel, very minor factory trigger job).
Basic 3x9 scope. It’s a hunting gun. The best 3 round, 100 yard group I’ve ever shot. All 3 touching, clover leaf type group. I’m far from a a great hunter or rifle shot, but something about that gun just worked for me. Tiny groups with cheap soft point hunting ammo. He had gifted it to me and after my divorce, I returned it. It hurts to say that, but it was given to him by his father when he was a child, and he had lots of great memories attached to it. I believe it was the right thing to do, so I’m ok with it. It was a great rifle for sure. I hope yours is a shooter as well! |

America is at that awkward stage, it’s too late to work within the system, but too early to shoot the bastards....Claire Booth

Not what's on mine, but what I'd use if stretching to 1300. My pre-64 is in walnut. |

Badger Ordnance and Ken Farrell would be worth a look.
1300 yards is close to 50 moa, 30 moa and 38 moa bases are available. The 38 moa base is designed for dedicated .308 1000 yard tournament rifles. Most of your shooting will be done at closer ranges I assume. I rarely have an opportunity to shoot past 600. 600 is only 15 moa and I usually buy 10 moa bases to split the difference. |

The range has ipsc targets every 50 yards to 1350. I ordered some 2 piece Leupold mounts for now as they were cheap. All the 1 piece mounts with built in MOA I’ve found have the wrong hole spacing on the rear for a target rifle with the stripper clip guide. I think the rear spacing is .435 so I guess how far I can shoot will be limited to my load and available internal adjustment in my scope for now. Worst comes to worse I can get a 1 piece mount and have a Machinest friend of mine drill another hole in it in the correct place. Edit : I checked my scope and it has 78 MOA of adjustment. I’ll have to see how much elevation I have after I get it mounted before going all custom on a mount. |

I found a 20 moa base . I contacted Murphy’s precision and he’s going to make me one !
I did find out all the screw holes are .030 off to the left so I’m filling the holes and am going to machine new ones 8-40 |

Got an update from long rifles inc , Chad is building my rifle personally. It should be done in a week or so. I elected to have it put into a McMillian A5 stock.

View Quote You did it wrong. Individual form 4s are taking 6-8 days. Trusts 6-8 months. You should have done it individual and then while you have it file it into the trust. Well worth the extra $200, IMO. |
