As the title says I'm looking to compile a reference list of current high shelf, low shelf and M16 cut lowers. This is in no way a technical discussion thread, just compiling what lowers on the market correspond to each type. Old reference thread is from 2009 and not up to date.
What I have: Delton - High Shelf KAC Ambidextrous - High Shelf LMT MARS L - High Shelf Colt (current) - High Shelf w/ block LWRC (5.56 ambi version, unsure of .308) - Low Shelf Nodak Spud Retro - Low Shelf KAC Stripped (Non-Ambi) - Low Shelf Spikes (All 5.56 Models) - Low Shelf Aero (Gen 2 and M4E1) - Low Shelf Colt (Legacy/SP1) - Low Shelf CMMG MK4 - Low Shelf Bushmaster (out of production) - Low Shelf DPMS (out of production) - Low Shelf Aero ("Clone" Lowers) - Low Shelf, recent change so older "clone" lowers may be high shelf Centurion CM4 - M16 Cut Sons of Liberty Gun Works - M16 Cut DS Arms - M16 Cut BCI Defense (out of production) - M16 Cut Shadow Ops Weaponry (out of production) - M16 Cut Add Matrix Arms - M16 Cut Black Creek Precision - M16 Cut Standard Mfg - M16 Cut Modern Armory - M16 Cut PSA - Varies Randomly Anderson - Varies Randomly, may have recently changed to all low shelf I'll update as stuff gets added. Isn’t Shadow Ops Weaponry out of business after screwing people out of $900k?
Or does this list include lowers no longer made / available? |

The old Bushmasters I have are low shelf and my buddies Anderson's are low shelf also.

What are spikes lowers? Low shelf or M16?

The shelf is the rear of the receiver. You need a low shelf to fit a DIAS or Lightning Link. Here is a picture showing the difference. https://adventurefootstep.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/04/A-high-shelf-lower-receiver-vs.-a-low-shelf-lower-receiver.jpg An M16 cut is fully machined to original M16 specs. It only lacks the hole for the M16 sear. Here is a BCI Defense lower. https://www.northwestfirearms.com/data/attachments/579/579507-ce83180a6fcf6ec9a781e4d678c24a69.jpg View Quote View All Quotes View All Quotes Quoted:

Seen a couple three brands done like that but don't understand why the cut so much of the support out over the detent side of the selector. The pics for the new DSA lowers shows a similar deep cut over the selector detent area also. View Quote |

Quoted: Why is there an extra hole for the trigger guard on the left side? There is a local shop that has their own branded lowers with those same cuts in the trigger pocket for $65 IIRC. I am going to have to go back and check them out, they had no roll mark/obnoxious logo, making them look like the PSA or Spikes' Stealth models. |

I have a Shadow Ops lower that I will have to dig into my safe and get pics. They are quite nice.

Quoted: Why is there an extra hole for the trigger guard on the left side? View Quote There is no logo on either side of the lower, just the required markings ABC-15, Cal Multi and the serial #. I picked this up at a flea market (gun show) 3 weeks ago. So does it fit the criteria the OP was asking about? Im still not clear on that. |

This is an interesting examination. If I understand it correctly, low-shelf and M16-cut are different, with M16 being even lower?
I'll take a look at my Stag Arms from circa 2006(?) if I can find it. --------- That PSA is active on ARFcom right now, they may be able to give insight into if they did a switch at a certain date, or if it was machine shop dependent on who they used to source from before going totally in-house (if I understand their workings correctly now). If PSA is random within same-month / same-era offerings, then I'd love to know what they thought about it all, and why the seeming randomness. --------- At some level, I have to wonder if some forge company was know to make weaker castings in some area or some way, and a common thing to do for lowers from that forge (or from a few forges) was to elave them high-shelf? Or is it a manufacturing choice to reduce time and cost of cutting bits? |

Since we're discussing high/low shelf - M16 cuts, does anyone make a .308 lower receiver with M16 cuts - DPMS compatible?

BCM lowers have the low shelf as well.

Disregard. I got a hold of SOLGW and they confirmed they are all M16 cut. Odd the pic shows a receiver that isn’t, but who knows. Well I guess I’ll grab one unless I can track down a CM4 in the next couple of days.

Seems there's some confusion on what's what here in the thread. I'll be doing a DIAS video shortly but the video below should help explain/demonstrate/show the difference between low shelf and full auto cut.
