I own ARs with bells and whistles, and plastic pistols. But my favorites remain ARs with carry handles and pistols of steel and wood. I consider the classics as "industrial art". |

RoosterX19, your XN-23 build is Straight up, Bad Ass! What is the barrel length and what kind of handguards are those?

View Quote The barrel length is 7.5" from Model 1, and the handguard is a 1 piece aluminum jobby from them as well. It's ok, but takes away from the early style that I'm going for. Thanks to a fellow ARF member, I'm having a set of shorty triangle guards made up to complete the retro look and feel. Oh, and thanks! |

Thank God they got rid of them! The intention was that they were stainless and more resistant to corrosion. Down side was the geniuses in charge of acquisitions had no idea the level of asspain cleaning them was after being submerged in salt water (think side-plate removal for 16 Frogs just to get back in the water on a dive the next night) was compared to just rinsing and cleaning a P226. |

I've seen pics of the sling slung both ways, so I just picked one. This is the first time I've heard that there was a reason to put it backwards; neat! Of course, it's plenty quiet enough for the range and my safe as is... "The wild" is not very wild at my advanced age. |

My XM177ish carbine. Love this thing. So light and handy, I thought my 602 clone was light and handy but this is even better even though they are within a quarter pound of each other in weight. May swap to a pencil profile barrel later to shave off even more weight. It's kind of become my go to truck gun and I find excuses to run to the range to drop a mag or three though it. I went with the triangle handguards because I like the feel of them over the round guards.

Switched out the H&R M16A1 lower I was using for a correct H&R XM177E2 lower. Also changed out the M1 sling for a GP strap. Took the retro off, and I'm thinking about using an OEG on there. |

If possible, OAL internally of the bag, wondering if my 11.5/177E2 SBR would fit assembled. |
