I don't know about prices but the ScoutLight is smaller and weighs less than the Millennium Universal WeaponLight.

The M651C is the Scout Light... I've got one and was pleasantly surprised at how small it is! It comes with the clickie from the E2D, but a tape switch will supposedly be released sometime in the future (it is pictured in the 2004 catalog). When using the stock bezel and lamp the light is crazy small, but the beam is focused pretty tightly. Mine has been upgraded with an adapter to use the Classic size bezels and the P61 HOLA.
  I got mine from Brightflashlights, but Grant is also an excellent dealer that has taken care of me in the past! HTH. -Randy

The Scout is the way to go. I have both models of the Scout on back order. Laser Devices OP-6 is another good choice (small, lightweight, rugged and cheap)! C4 www.gandrtactical.com

Doh.. I didn't realize the Scout was the M651c. Nice pic Al that made my decision.... Scout light it is. I'm not really worried about the light output for this rifle but I'm glad I can upgrade like my good 'ole buddy Randy did. The only thing I don't like about the Scout light is that E2D tailcap.

You don't have to use the E2D t/c, you can swap it out for a Z57 which is certainly a better color match up. |

The scoutlight is the smallest and lightest, however it is not the cheapest. It costs about the same as a basic MU series light. The cheapest would be the clasic series lights as mentioned above. They would be bigger and heavier than the scoutlights, but I would think they would be smaller and ligher than the MU lights.

Surefire X200. Operated with the left thumb.

The Scout weaponlight is basically an E2e with an integral mount and clickie tailcap. They share the same tailcaps and bezels, so if you already have an E2e, you can swap parts if needed.

How bright are the LD's compared to the SF's? And do the LD's only come with tape switches and ARMS throw levers or can you get thumb screws and clickie caps? Thanks Grant.

From what I can tell, the LD OP-6's are just as bright as say a SF 6P. You can get them without ANY mount and a momentary/constant on tailcap (kind of like the Z48/Z49 SF tailcap)... C4 |

I would say that the OP-6 is around 67 Lumens (same as the SF 6P or M95 series). They do not make a HO bulb (which I think are a waste of money without a turbo head)....

About 125 Lumens. They (LD) states much higher numbers, but they are just going by the initial light off. I would recommend staying with the 6V... C4 |

Let's say that your using a 6P and you put the P61 bulb in. You will notice a slightly longer throw, but nothing that warrants the 20 minute run time. The Turbo head focuses the beam and can utilize the higher output more effectively (IMHO).... C4 |

The turbohead for a 6v system IS a waste, you won't see any worthwhile improvement unless you move up to a 9v lamp. As for the P61 HOLA vs. the std. P60, the P61 is a worthy addition in my opinion. With the P61 you'll get a much brighter, whiter beam with about 20% better flood & range. And, if you use the P61 in momentary fashion without excessive constant on periods you can extend battery life out 25-30 min. The P61 even has a brighter, whiter beam than the 9v P90 lamp IMO. |

I agree - the TurboHead models start at 9V (three SF123A) and the High Output Lamp Assemblies (HOLA's) really improve the beam.
I also agree that the P61 is a worthy lamp. I only use the P61 when I'm carrying a standard two-SF123A SureFire such as the G2Z or M2. The light output is brighter, whiter, more intense, larger beam and brighter surround beam. They really shine outside at close range too. I also agree that P61 is better than the P90, and also the P91. If you don't use the P61 constant-on then it doesn't eat SF123A's as quickly as you may expect in my experience. Al |

I have both the Scout and E2d and even though the parts are interchangable, the Bezels are not the same. The lense on the Scout is flat and the lense on the E2d is dome shaped. I think the reflectors may be different also because when you put them side by side the beam is a little tighter on the Scout.

I have a Streamlight M-3 on mine. The adapter only costs about $8. Interchangeable in seconds between pistol, rifle, or shotgun.

Like mentioned above the Scout is the same as the E2 series except without a mounting system incorporated into the body. If you don't like the E2D tailcap you can simply get a std. HA-BK clickie w/out the shroud. Because folks have been unhappy with the 'Heinz 57' look of the Scout I've been mounting the E2D's for a few customers. We even prefer the E2D because of the domed lens which provides a better beam IMO. You can also use the MN02 lamp which gives impressive results while doubling runtime to over 2 hrs.     I wish somehow SF would develop a clicker t/c for the A2 & L2's.  Something along the lines of light pressure activating momentary low output mode, followed by medium pressure for momentary high output and finally press deep for constant on off high output.  The L2 would offer moderate navigation lighting & longer battery life but also have high output capability too.

The E2e LockOut TailCap (push button pressure switch) is the Z52 (HA).
The L4's Clickie TailCap (also can be locked out) is the Z57 (HA). The Hard Anodised Black Clickie TailCap shown by BrightFlashlights on that E2d is the Z61. I would also like a two-stage clickie TailCap for the A2/L1/L2 etc. Al |

OK.... I broke down and I am going to betray my Surefire allegiance and order a OP-6 from Brownells (sorry Grant, I can get an LE discount). Will let you guys know how it fairs.
Edit.... I just pulled it up on their website and they don't have the one's with the ARMS mounts. I guess I will have to order their flashlight ring with it also. |

In my experience, if you go to a reputable dealer and site supporter (which is important to me, YMMV) like Grant and tell him what price the competition is offering, he’ll usually work with you. He might even have all the parts you really want.

The X200A is it's own design but the technology will soon be used in other systems. The biggest reason for not seeing it now in other offerings is because the KL4, KL5 & KL6 were already designed. |

The *new* KL1 bezel features an evolved optic based on the X200A.
The LuxeonIII is not driven as hard for longer regulated runtime and the beam is larger (and therefore not quite as intense) compared to the X200's beam. The squareness has also been rounded somewhat. Using the KL1 on the ScoutLight creates the M66xx ScoutLight (for example M661C) I think it is one of the best LED beams yet released. The new KL1 has only just started to ship. My understanding is that the price has not gone up which makes it a bargin! Email me if you'd like to see my photo of the M661X. Al |
