I didn't make this technique up, I actually saw it on here a long time ago. I thought I'd take some pics as I was canning up some ammo for long term storage for those who have never seen this done before. Credit goes to member CAR_16 who did this thread a while back, but it has gone to the archives.
ETA: This will work with Golden Tiger, Wolf, Tulammo, and any other that have this same size box. Brown Bear and a few others have a slightly different size box, and they won't stack in like these will. The layers will go in like this, starting from left to right. The fourth row of ammo boxes will fit in the middle at the end. Here's the first layer in the box... Second layer... Third layer... Then that last row in the middle... I always leave that packing slip in there, because it's cool. Throw in some desicant if you want and seal them up! Don't forget the labels! |

Very nice thanks. I need some more 50 cal cans I have 6k of 7.62x39 just sitting in the shipping boxes

Well I'll be damned. Always settled for 840 and then just load mags with the leftovers. I just so happen to have an empty can and an unopened case of Wolf to try this with. Thanks!

I was thinking of doing that myself but wasnt sure if I wanted to do 500 rounds in the .30 cal cans or 1k in .50 cal cans. To bad cans are expensive around here.

I don't want to believe this because I have seemingly tried every possible combination of arrangement and failed,
now I know it is possible off to make this happen ETA: thanks op |

Thanks OP, just rearranged mine too. Most I was getting was 920 per can. The labels on the front are fine but I take a 3"x5" index card and cut it in half and keep a running total on what's in the can (makes keeping track of it a lot easier) Any tips for the .30 cal. can to get 500 in there ?? Most I'm getting is 480....I knew I should have played more tetris when I was younger.

I took out the ammo and put some mags in it instead, too damn heavy. A good way to estimate how much ammo you have for those who store the ammo loose is by weight. 250 is @ 10lbs, 500 rounds is @ 20lbs, 1000 is @ 40lbs. |

Most of the stuff I put in the 50 cal cans is going to be there a while. The stuff I'm planning on shooting usually goes in 30 cal cans, or I just leave it out of cans. Carrying those 40 lb cans gets old fast!
ETA: Here is a good use for any M67 crates you might have around. 16 loaded magazines will fit perfectly, that's 480 rounds ready to rock and roll! Maybe we should rename this thread "Cool Ways to Store Ammo" |

I compared it with some older WOLF and GT and the box is longer. The ammo is made by Barnaul which is who makes Brown Bear so it has that longer Brown Bear box. They are roughly 2 1/2" long, 1 3/4" tall, and just under 2" wide. |

You can fit 6 7.62x39 mags across a Cabella's dry box, stacked 2 high, and then there is quite a bit of extra space. You can fit 40rd mags in there no problem. |
