Need some help here guys. I want an SBR Krinkov and have been looking at the Arsenal guns. I am concerned about availability of the 5.54X39 ammo but I haven't heard real good things on the 5.56 cal being over gassed and just getting magazines. I'm hoping for some feedback from some owners and just some thoughts on this. Please let me know which way to go. Thanks.

I am looking at buying the SLR104-53 16" barrel and cutting it down... As far as availability of 5.45x39 its plenty out there to grab no drying up anytime soon or ever. I hope you get the information you are looking for if you need some check the AKfiles.com website... |

I have a 106UR in 5.56 and absolutely love it. The mags are expensive $30 or so but so are quality 5.45 mags. The thing I like about the 106 over the 104 is it has a 1:7 twist and I can reload for it. Way more ammo options for the 106 if you're a reloader. I would also have a hard time shooting corrosive 7n6 through my SBR, but that's just me. Would want to risk my expensive rifle rusting up.

I've got a 106 pistol on the way, eventually I'll SBR it. I really don't want to get into another caliber, .223/5.56 is fine with me.
I think some guys make changes to the internals like any other AK platform and it screws up the 106. I guess we'll see when it gets here. |

I bought a factory 106ur SBR. Love, runs steel and brass no problems. I wanted a drink but did not want to get another caliber. I also have a 106f so I stocked up on mags which aren't cheap but should last a lifetime. Good deals on the 106 can be found.

Went the SLR104-UR route with 16'' barrel. Easiest, IMHO to shorten the barrel. I like 5.45. If it ever dries up, it will wear a 5.56 barrel.
So far the 104UR has exceeded my accuracy expectations, at least with the long barrel. She was printing 1.25ish'' groups at aprox 85 meters, 5 and 10 round groups. A rough accuracy test, but wanted a general base-line. |

Nice info guys you got me thinking 5.56 now!!

Definitely +1 on the 5.56............

I'm building a krinkov in 545, to be honest I see no reason to have a krink in 556. With the short barrel I'd rather run 545 over 556 ( I have a 11.3in sig551 for comparison). It does suck not having the reloading option but when you can get 1080rds for $175-200 sign me up, plus there are plenty of non corrosive ammo options and the supply will not dry up in our life time.

go for the original round. IIRC 5.45 performs much better in a short barrel than 556

5.45 over 5.56. Banned 7n6 is still cheaper than 5.56 and will be for the foreseeable future and the green tip "ban" talk is killing the 223/556 availability.

Waiting on my tax stamp now to SBR my 106ur, definitely a +1 for the 5.56.

+1 for the 5.56 version. I have one and it comes with me on every range trip. InRange did my conversion and he stands behind his work.

Had one ordered and paid for back in... oh idk 2009-2010 or thereabouts and my dealer fucked me by not ordering it and then filing for bankruptcy. Think I still have the 13 mags I bought for it somewhere. Might as well get the rifle as well. I was holding out hoping for a 107UR SBR but looks like thats never gonna happen. |
