Florida shoot #27 hosted by military firearm and ar15 florida members
At manatee gun and archery club 1805 logue rd Myakka city 34251 The shoot is at AREA 51 in the back...and will be $20 per shooter. Hot range around 9 and BBQ break for lunch. No glass targets or steel cylinders. Fire extinguishers are ok...tannerite...shaving cream etc is good to go. I did talk to the range regarding steel targets. If they are comercialy available AR 500 steel and hanging on chain at the back berm it is ok...BUT if rounds start leaving the range or coming back at us the steel will be taken down. Hope to see you guys at the shoot....ATB mick and dave. |

I'm in. I think Monkey_Wrench Sr. will be in town then, I'll bring him too!
Great question....glad you asked.
From what I got from my converse wi the range. AR 500 steel....hanging from chain. Try widners for a 12 in plate for 64 bucks and build a frame from treated 2x4 with home despot chain. As soon as my plate gets here from widners I will post pics. As always my main concern is safety.....and having the shooters have a good time. ATB....mick. |

OP: do you normally organize these? I'd like to PM who does and find out how you guys do it. Like getting the range, insurance concerns, etc.
Myakka is one helluva haul for me and all of us northern florida people. I'd like to try and organize a fairly regular shoot in the Jacksonville/St. Augustine area, but I have no idea where to begin. |

I am hoping to make this one. I have a couple 6.8's I would like to see how they shoot at a little further distance.
I am in in for 1, possibly 2. I've never been to one so what do I need to bring besides the obvious? IE: food, grill, etc... I plan on bringing a pop-up shade cover, chairs, drinks. I don't want to be "that guy". All info. would be helpful.
Got the grill ,just bring food and drinks what your going to shoot at , tannerite BOOM .....pop up not a bad idea .

Anyone been there lately? Just wondering how the new Area 51 is coming along?

Last time I was there no short range berms just the -long far berm. Ive been watching this thread I'm also an A RO at the club and will be camping out Friday night before the shoot if anybody wants to come up Friday night to camp, I will dummy lock the gate . On a side note if anybody wants in the red targets low velocity or high velocity he lives close by and we can get him to come by as well . Plus he usually gives us dealer cost at events unfortunately were limited to size of the charge so were not allowed to do 50 pounders . im gonna bring a few FA toys folks can play with if they wanna feed em only no reloads please .

Welp looks like Tom Carbone Rock River Arms LE/military rep is gonna come with me as well as Mike from in the red Targets both with some intersting products to Play with
That's awesome. Will they have some charges to buy so I don't have to do that prior?
I think I'll have my M16 there. |
Yes im sure that Mike will bring some along for sale he lives 10 mins away if we run out Tom Carbone From RRA can probably hook us up on AR related stuff if any one wants to shoot me or him a want list (before the 16th) he might be able to bring it with ....never hurts to ask
What's the maximum distance to shoot on the Area 51 range? I might be up for this and could be strongly persuaded if there is some mid to long range shooting.
150-200 yards i belive ....thou ther is a thousand yard range on property
Seeing as the mid range berms are gone, or at least they were last time I was there, is this a long gun only event?

View Quote No, I took my range finder last time and If I remember correctly the back berm if about 150 yards when sighted up halfway. you can set up targets much closer. They usually have cardboard and stakes, but I suggest you bring your own target frames just in case they don't or it they run out. |

My oldest son and I will be coming and I have a couple questions. Is there shooting tables and does someone have a picture of some target frames so I can make a couple to bring?
I will be there, along with a couple dozen donuts and a couple dozen hamburger buns for anyone that wants burgers.
