I have read that there were problems with the ORF receivers. or at least the earlier ones. Are they in SPEC now ? I want to see this rifle materialize as badly as anyone. Desperately need pics and a good review.

The current batch of ORF recs are tweaked to work with the current batch of kits. I have built 2 with mininal problems. The parts kits are for the most part finish worn but mechanically sound. The century guns( at least the one I held at the shot show) are thrown together. They can be made into a decent rifle with a little tlc. Still the cheapest way to own a Galil.

If one were to buy one of these when they become available and it's a POS, who in the US is a good Galil-smith to make it right or refinish etc?

I got one here right now......put 100 rounds of Wolf steel case 55 grain through it for function, no problems

It looks pretty good, not like a new IMI commercial gun, but not bad for the price

need to put it on paper and see how it shoots

think it will make a fine shooter

I just blew almost $500 on a Valmet B&T rail to modify for one of my Galils.

I'm out of the country, so I haven't had the chance to work on it yet.

So, when are they coming in, and can we pre-order?

Ok Ill say this. The sources are the same as far as the receiver and the basic kit. The ORF receivers are very well specked and the parts fall together very well and pretty problem free(although Century can always find exceptions). I had mine built by a friend whos in the business and he believes the kits and receivers are of good quality. These are used kits so expect signs of use. That would be the plastic which is easy to replace fairly cheap or even a good plastic polish can do a lot.. The receiver barrel and othere metal parts hot blued come out looking pretty good. Heres mine I picked up today.

I got one finally and love it. The stamping on it is shallow and the "S" for safe is not stamped all the way but most everything else is perfect. I shot 500 rounnds through it (250 ss109, 250 walmart winchester). It shoots great!!! The tritium inserts are missing in action but I have heard that is because of a ban on the importation of tritium.

One question that mabey someone with an original Galil can awnser is:

The roll pin that holds the rear flip-up night sight seems to be the wrong size. It looks like there is actually two roll pins holding it in, one through the other. If anyone has some intell on this let me know.

My new Century Galil does not have a firing pin spring, is this normal? An article published in the July 1983 Soldier of Fortune magazine had the following information. The initial lot of Galils brought into this country also had no firing pin springs. Military primers have hard cups, not easily touched off. American commercial ammunition, Winchester in particular, has relatively soft primer cups. The Winchester ammo caused several slam-fires and all Galils offered for sale in the United States have now been fitted with strong firing pin springs. If yours does not, have it retrofitted before firing commercial ammunition. Does this apply to the new Century guns as well? If these kits are from decomissioned military rifles they may not have the spring, the other possibility is that Century forgot to insert it. It was appeared to me that no one at Century had taken the time to remove the firing pin from the bolt because when I did several brass pieces that I assume were part of a worn bushing came out as well.  Has anyone taken theirs apart yet? Does your Century Galil have a firing pin spring?

Thanks for any info

Somehow I doubt that an article written 24 years ago (when I was 7 years old) is going to have much bearing on what parts Century decides to put into its guns in 2007 (I'm now a prosecuting attorney and gunsmith).

Just trying to put it into perspective a bit.

I do not believe the rifle has been redesigned since it was brought into the US prior to the import restrictions imposed in 1987. This article was referring to the rifles that were imported into the US at that time. If the rifle has not been redesigned and the spring was required then I don't understand how 24 years removed the requirement for the spring. The spring was only required for commercial rifles because of slam fire problems associated with soft commercial primers. I use mainly mil surplus but I just want to make sure that Century didn't forget to pin the spring in the rifle. I will be the one using the rifle, I want to make sure it is safe. From my perspective the question and the article are both relevant.  The link to the full article is http://remtek.com/arms/imi/galil/galil.htm

If anyone that actually has a century galil would be kind enough to open it up and check for a firing pin  spring I would greatly appreciate it. I would definitely recommend disaasembly and cleaning prior to use, the one I got was filthy inside. There were steel and aluminum shavings in the receiver, lots of fouling in the barrel and brass flakes inside the firing pin cavity of the bolt.

Thanks,
DDubbb

Galils were manufactured both with and without firing pin springs.  I do not know the choronology (one woudl assume non-spring, then spring) but I know fora  fact they came in both flavors.

As noted in an article by Peter Kokalis in a July, 1983 issue of Soldier of Fortune:

Pulled a few things from a post above.

Just keep the bolt clean If the pin has free movement its not going to slam fire. The springs were added for the civ market for the gun owners that do not take care of the firearms the buy.

I run all my bolts (AK type) clean with a few drops of Rem Oil inside the bore were the pin travels. I always make sure I can shake the bolt and here the pin "tapping" as it travels foward and back. Never had a single prob with any type of commercial or mil ammo.

Got one today.  What kind of a sight tool do I need for the front post?  It looks AKish, but my AK/SKS tool doesn't work.  I managed to get the windage right, but the elevation isn't.  It came with 2 mags.  1 is really used, the other one is marginally used.

I just picked mine up from AIM and it looks good overall. It is a surplus parts gun so you have to expect some flaws. The bolt wasn't refinished and it looks wore but the carrier was refinished and looks good. The stock has some pits/dents but was refinished pretty decent. Mine has no mag slop and cycles rounds by hand perfectly. I haven't tried it out but I will sometime this week. I want to make sure it cycles good since I have a 30 day return policy from Aim.  You get 2 mags, 1 is freshly park'd and the other is truly surplus grade. Buy'em up while you can people, I don't think ORF made many receivers for Century. Once these parts kits dry up, thats it. Galil's are nice rifles but pre 89s aren't worth $3K. This is a really nice fun gun and when the dem's ban guns in 2 years it should go up in value. HEIL HILLARY !

DSA has 35 rd steel mags for 19.95 each if you buy 20, 24.95 each if you buy 10. Botach advertises 20 rd mags and 30 rd mags for 29.95 but only has 20's in stock. I'm expecting ten to arrive tomorrow if UPS doesn't screw up so its 50/50 on getting mine this weekend. I know $20 each isn't cheap but with all the new Galil clones on the market and pending legislation they won't be getting cheaper any time soon.
