The area that they removed on the sides of the 2nd. gen. is where the problem was. Just drop the Gen 1 follower in w/o spring and you'll see the 4 contact points with the inner mag. Lightly file those areas with a needle file set and double check. I did 5 and was tired of it...can't imagine 24 lol!!! Glad I won't have to screw with these. Bitch is I never got to use the Gen. 1's at all. I'll have a stack of unused green, gen 1, and a few gen 2's now.

Filing is not necessary. Just run the followers up and down several times (or just use the mags). I like how they beefed up the rear part to push the bolt catch easier. That should have been implemented back in the 50s/60s. I'm not sure why they removed the angle cut from the "fake cartridge" or why they increased the height of that part for aligning the cartridge. They were never problem areas in the first place. I used the G1s last summer and they were pretty good. I like how they work similar to AK followers: They just do not tilt at all. The green followers will get stuck if you push the front part down. |

Which mags did you have? They work fine in the D&H mags (dated 8-05). They also worked fine in the SAR80 Steel mags. They needed filing to work in the T-65 mags. |

I HATE YOU! |

This is huge!
Magpul needs to have downloadable upgrades to the Gen 1 followers. Kinda like an MS patch! |
+1 I was just going to order some "next week". |

JackalAR is correct in the location that usally required work. It really would depend on the magazine. Even a selection from the same manufacture from the same new bow would yeild different results from Mag to Mag.
On the color issue we will probably offer the follower in a Gray color along with the Burnt Orange soon for those who cannot abide any bright colors. |
I think the orange will look sweet against the black teflon. Then again, WHO LOOKS AT THEIR FOLLOWERS ENOUGH TO CARE? Maybe orange is less reliable. We all know black is the fastest color.
A grey option would only add to the confusion wouldn't it? I say stick with your first choice and let the Kool-Aid drinkers duracoat them. |

Are they Radway Green mags or HK mags? If neither, then they're not British SA80 mags. They're CIS (Chartered Industries, Singapore) SAR80 mags. I have a few of the blued SAR80 steel mags with magpuls and they're very close copies of the D&H USGI 30rd mags. The only difference is the material of the mag bodies and springs. The CIS SAR80 springs sucked. |

fitting the gen 1... i have mostly D&H mags but i have a few NTMG with and with out colt markings what i did was i used some 800 grit sand paper and roughed up the sides as much as i could then put them into the mag and forced them up and down then pulled them out and just use a file or sandpaper or sharp pocked knife and remove some material where the dark colored marks were keep it up tell the followers move smooth. All my mags worked good except for one a NTMG Colt marked mag and it worked good in my AR with the M4 ramps but my pistol does not have the ramps and it would hit the bottom of the ramp. i noticed the front was sticking and went through the rest of my mags and noticed most sticking at the top. |

I'm also curious about the answer to this question. Me, I like the color. |
Maybe MP should offer a special group buy for all of us who bought gen 1. It would give me another excuse to buy more mags
Why not make it in OD Green? -- I think its does still stands out versus the current GI emerald green follower. It's a much better 'tactical' color than Burnt Orange. |
This will be great! I can't wait for all of the super-cheap Gen 1 followers when they all get dumped for the latest thing! I love picking up high-quality aftermarket AR items for cheap when the fashion changes. That happens about every other month. Is Paris Hilton an ARFCommer? |
"That's hot!" |

Will the Magpul followers, both old and new, work in 20 round mags?
Mine, too. I had already swapped all of my old (black/green) followers for the orange USGI-style (non-Magpul) anti-tilts & was holding off on upgrading to Magpuls (we're talking a LOT of mags ). Now, I can replace them 15 or 30 at a time & they won't clash while I'm "in transition"... |

damnit. I just installed 12 gen ones on my mags.
I had to do a little filing on some of my older mags. |
Green! Give us green! |

<angry mob>Yeah! We want green!<angry mob> |

Shoot, I like the orange WIZZO |

Video of 7KOPPER testing the follower today (semi, rapid semi and 3 round burst)...
follower test (windows media file) |
Wow! I'm a super star!
edit....if ya look close on the last shoot you can see the heat comming off of the can and barrel. We did like 200 rounds in 10 min? |
what kind of suppressor was that? |
What was that last word..."dirty"? Does the AR gas system take a crap in the mags too?
Yes "dirty", carbon fouls the mag as well during normal shooting. This was increased 20 fold by using the suppressor which dumps gobs of carbon into the action along with the increased gas pressures. The suppressor is a Gemtech. Also this was the final run with the same magazine after three auto runs to see if the fouling affected the mag function. All the followers were black with carbon after just two mag dumps. |
Nothing craps up a magazine like running a BFA and blanks. Blanks don't obtrude the chamber well and you get mucho blow-by.
Firing ball ammo without a can, a small amount gets in the top bet not enough to require anything but infrequent maintainence. Most of it settles in the top two inches and you can wipe most of it out from the top end with the mag assembled. After a while, you will get a feel for when to break your mags down for maintainence. Ususally, I do it when I get dirt/sand in them if one hits the deck. |
Ahhh...makes since. Does three suppressed FA runs with the same mag really gum it up that much? Any reason someone couldn't shoot 500 rds. through a single mag in an unsuppressed S/A? Do the follers / feed lips get most of the junk or is mag disassembly required after each session?
Magpul, do you guys have any pics of the subdued grey yet? Thanks guys!!! Cool vid. |
Sound suppressors = t3h win. No ear protection? WOW. That is the solution to noisy gun ranges and the jackass libtard anti-gun people that move next to the gun ranges.

How about an ARFCOM group buy of the Gen 2 Burnt Orange. I'm finally thinking I would like to convert over to the gen 2 magpul followers....
oh gods.... please dont ask Magpul for ANOTHER group buy.... they dont deserve to go thru that again. |
Must be some pain and Misery I missed out on. I myself have never jumped on a Group buy as it always seems it turns into a group "Custom" Buy and everybody thinks their at Burger King and want it there "Own Way". I figured this would be pretty easy. either you want the Burnt Orange Gen 2 followers or not and the only choice you hace is the "Qty" block... |
Heck with "breaking in..." I took a curved file and "fixed" them so they operate perfect now... Of course, once I read about the tight fit on the sides near the top of the mag, it put doubt in my mind about my mags with the GEN1 followers... I specifically bought the MAGPUL's to REMOVE the doubt that AR mags are known for, not create MORE. Sure enough, almost 70% of the mags I owned the follower would stop just short of the top. Now in LIVE FIRE, maybe the recoil would have helped the mag spring coax the followers all the way to the top, but who needs to worry about that.... the AR gives us enough to worry about as it is. It just took MANY HOURS to unload 28 rounds from the mags, do the field repair, then reload them. Almost all my mags had GENI followers... I'm glad to see a GENII follower, but I doubt I will swap out all my GEN1's after all the money those cost me. I will admit though, my TRUST in the GEN1's and the reliability they brought to the AR mags now has seeds of doubt... Rmpl |
