lol I do believe you get volume pricing SMGLee shipped my MRP with three Magpull panels, each with a nice LMT logo on it. Say, wanna buy them? They may appeal to a rail cover lover
Duffy, that is sweet. Send me an IM if you want to sell the LMT logo panels, I'll take them off your hands. |
VA thanks I was just giving bsbg a hard time I was gonna use my KAC panels with it, until I found out there were no relief cuts for them
Duffy, Sweet Rifle MRP! Not to get too far off of the subject, but how well does the Knights buttstock sling mount work with the LMT Crane Stock? I've heard some people say that it doesn't work. Any problems? |
Red, it works just fine, it's the LMT tube that's incorrectly timed that gives trouble and does not allow the stock to be fully closed
Duffy,
That is bitchen with that PVS14. I bet your rifle will be the hit at the shoot this weekend. Now i just got to get you into a 552 Rev F with the LaRue mount. |
Chen, thanks again for the cool toy I'll be patiently awaiting the bi-lock and EOTech mount
I actually have your EOTech mount, just forgot to ship it to you.
It will go out next Monday. Bi-Lok is on the way. Are you doing burro or the webshooter? |
Never have I seen anything cooler than the MRP system. hock.gif Wow, now I know what direction I'm headed. What's the going price for an upper with complete bolt assembly in CQB? I'm holding back the tears but there coming sooner or later. All I can say is wow!!!! Edit: Nevermind, checking out your site right now.
Duffy, Are you talking about the sling mount on the buffer tube? I was talking about the one on the buttstock itself. The one underneath the cheek piece. Most claim that they only work with the old fiberlite CAR stocks. But, I have a Colt M4 ribbed stock and a new LMT Crane stock and I was looking for a better way to mount a 3 point sling without the nylon loop in the back. Thanks! |
I think there is a model of the KAC QD sling mount that works for hte LMT Crane stock, and one that does not. |
She says Im too old for her to buy me things anymore |
Chen I went to the desert on Friday, nothing like freezing yer ass off in the desert while holding a hot weapon Corp. Chaos is right, I've only seen the sling mount you're talking about on old MSTN photos, but the ones I have from MSTN all work with either the new ribbed Colt stock or the Crane stock |
Wow that's pretty cool! How much is that going to run? |
I love LMT, but the thumb nut for the front sight seems too big
chen,
thanks for letting me shoot your mrp"work gun" the thing is friggin awesome. so is your spr, but that's off topic. one of these days chen, when i grow up i want an mrp too..... duffy, next month can you bring your brand spankin new mrp to the shoot???????please!!!!! like to drool over it ,if ya don't mind. meat |
Meat, I'll do that. Since getting the MRP I'm consolidating my uppers, I have couple of uppers for sale, including an SPRish one Email me if yer interested.
I've had one of those LMT front sights sitting here for about 2 months. They sent me the wrong thing and I had not yet decided what to do with it. Hadn't even opened the bag so I never saw the LMT logo on it.
Good looking piece, that's for sure! |
This thread SUCKS.... I ditched getting an MRP for buying an a3 upper and Daniels Deffense 12.0 Tangod down panels and grips and a ACOG TA-11..... I could haev gotten the MRP but would have not sight....... now I think I should have gotten the MRP and waited for all the extras
True but your rifle would weigh more and be no more accurate in the end. Its only "worth the wait" if you are intending to switch calibers often. |
Nah, you got a great upper and sight, I wouldn't trade what you got for an MRP, I would keep the setup AND get the MRP too
DEVL, I am not sure as far as the weight. My MRP weights about the same as my Diemaco C8 barreled M4 with KAC RAS MRE. the MRP is really not that heavy. |
A 16" CQB MRP, MINUS BOLT CARRIER GROUP, CHARGING HANDLE, SIGHTS, OPTICS, VERTICAL GRIP, TACTICAL LIGHT, PEQ-2A, ETC., ONLY WEIGHS 3 LB 13.5 OZ.
2 LB 4 OZ OF THAT IS ITS MEDIUM CONTOUR (0.750") BARREL WITH GAS SYSTEM. THIS MEANS THE RECEIVER/FOREND ASSEMBLY OF THE CQB MRP ONLY WEIGHS 25.5 OZ, LIGHTER THAN A COMPARABLE RECEIVER WITH 9" FOREND. WES |
As far as the weight goes Bravo Co posted some interesting weights in this thread (http://www.ar15.com/forums/topic.html?b=3&f=118&t=210257)
LMT flattop upper with DD 7.0 and 16" M4 barrel 4lbs 1.6 oz LMT MRP with 16" barrel 4lbs 10.3 oz. So going with the MRP is roughly a 8.7oz weigh penalty (about half a pound). Which could be due to the barrels profile (I have asked). BTW Chen - why the zip ties going through the latches of the TD VFG? Do the zip ties prevent the VFG from being removed? |
Yes, the grip on the rail for good until you cut the zip ties. |
can you bring them out next month if you still have them??? if you can't make it let me know , i''ll IM you. thanks duffy!! meat |
meat I'll be there, I'll bring the uppers I wanna sell. So far I have the SPRish upper and a DD 12.0 FSB upper.
My 16" MRP CQB is slightly lighter than my 16.5" 6.8SPC and the Chief's twin with a DD9.0 equipted the same. They are all lightweights compared to an equivalent M4 upper configuration. |
I wish LMT would make lighter weight barrels in 16" and 18". The current ones are way too portly. -z |
Possible to have Kurt trim down the barrel to remove some weight? Either fluting or simply shaving down the OD?
If you could knock half a pound off, it would be a big help. -Steve |
WITH RESPECT TO THE LMT 16" TUBE, I DO NOT THINK YOU CAN IMPROVE TOO MUCH ON THE 2 LB 4 OZ (36 OZ) WEIGHT. REMEMBER, THIS INCLUDES THE GAS BLOCK AND GAS TUBE, 2-3 OZ.
FOR COMPARIRISON, A STRIPPED 14.5" M4 BARREL WEIGHS 28 OZ. THE 18" MRP BARREL IS 38 OZ, WITH GAS SYSTEM, IIRC. WES |
What's the outside diameter of an 18" MRP barrel, forward from the gas block? Also, the gas tubes are not removable from the gas block are they? This prohibiting contouring from the gas block back?
I can't measure it at the moment, but it's around 0.730". Just larger than a Vortex's sleeve I.D. -z |
Just checked one here, came up with this: Forward the gas block toward the muzzle .745, same as the LMT M4 setups (no M203 cut out) Gas tube is held in with a roll pin. |
YOU CAN REMOVE THE GAS BLOCK/GAS TUBE SYSTEM EASILY ENOUGH FROM AN MRP BARREL.
THE 18" SS MRP BARRELS I HAVE MEASURED ARE 0.850" UNDER THE HANDGUARDS, AND 0.745" FORWARD OF THE GAS BLOCK. THE MRP WAS NOT CONCEIVED AS THE ANSWER TO THE 3-GUN COMPETITORS' NEEDS. RATHER, IT IS AN INSTUMENT WITH ITS DESIGN ROOTED IN MILITARY APPLICATION. FOR ITS INTENDED PURPOSE, THE MRP'S BARREL CONTOURS ARE WELL THOUGHT OUT. THE MID-LENGTH GAS SYSTEM OF THE MRP PRODUCES A SURPRISINGLY SMOOTH RECOIL PULSE. WITH FULL POWER AMMO, HEAVIER BULLETS, LIKE FEDERAL PREMIUM MATCH 77 GRAIN LOADS, THE MRP-EQUIPPED AR' MOVES LESS ON FIRING THAN DOES MY RUGER/VOLQUARTSEN 10/22. IT COULD BE THAT MSTN QC COMP ON THE END DOING SOMETHING, TOO. WES |
Thanks for the measurements guys.
Wes, did you need to do anything to the gas ports on Zak's 17" barrel? Thanks again. This info doesn't go unappreciated or unused. |
Ok, I have a few questions here.
Are the barrels all LMT proprietary components or are there other manufacturers making barrels that will fit this sytem? Also, are 6.8SPC barrels available? And IIRC, they are making two sizes, carbine and rifle. What is the longest barrel you can use with the carbine sytem and the shortest with the rifle system? I am going to have the budget to do one bad ass upper, and I think this may be the way to go |
Very, nice indeed. Big MRP fan here, but not an Ecothingy fan (but if it works for you great, its second only to an Aimpoint M2 IMHO), but get rid of (or use it for the range) the 10rnd 1911 mag. Stick with 7 or 8 rnd max mags. The MRP looks great in any "background", after all its not designed to be a closet queen. Good shooting with it, we need a range report. |
The carbine length can use anything from 10.5"-18" MRP barrels. The rifle length can readily use barrels from 14.5"-18". The barrels are proprietary. Some have speculated that Mike Rock makes the stainless steel barrels, but I haven't seen the claim substantiated. I believe LMT makes the chrome lined barrels in house. I believe a member here (Combat Jack?) emailed LMT about 6.8 SPC barrels, and LMT replied "soon", or something to that effect. 14.5" and shorter barrels use a carbine gas system; 16" and up barrels use an LMT midlength gas system. |
I SPOKE WITH KARL LEWIS BY PHONE YESTERDAY A.M. THE SUBJECT OF THE 6.8 SPC FOR THE MRP CAME UP.
KARL SAID THEY WERE INTERESTED IN THE CONCEPT, BUT WOULD NEED 100,000 ROUNDS TO DO THE REQUIRED TESTING. AS OF THIS POINT, 100,000 RD IS NOT READILY AVAILABLE. WITH OTHER MANUFACTURES RUMORED TO BE GEARING UP TO OFFER THE 6.8 SPC, THIS COULD QUICKLY CHANGE. BASED ON WHAT KARL LEWIS HIMSELF SAID, I DO NOT ANTICIPATE 6.8 SPC MRP BARRELS ANYTIME SOON. BASED ON WHAT I DO KNOW ABOUT THE 6.8 SPC ROUND, I ANTICIPATE EVENTUAL INTEREST IN THE L.E. AND CIVILIAN MARKETS SUFFICIENT TO SUSTAIN IT, REGARDLESS OF WHAT UNCLE SAM CHOOSES TO DO. YES, THIS MEANS I THINK THAT AT SOME POINT WE'LL SEE MRP BARRELS IN 6.8 SPC. WES |
WES, you typed here once that the long MRP weighed 27.5 ozs. So only a 2 ounce penalty for 5 extra vent holes of rail? Seems like a small amount making the decision between the two simple (in my mind's eye). Thanks.....Chad |
