Has it been confirmed that the aimpoint 3x will magnify the dot and basically turn a 4MOA dot into a 12MOA dot?  It makes me wonder why Aimpoint didn't just extend the eye relief so that the magnifier could be mounted in front of the M2/ML2?

The dot will be 12 MOA but everything else will also be 3 times closer. So the dot will still appear to be 4 MOA.

This is correct. Remember that Aimpoint is also coming out with the ML3 and M3. You will be able to order these with a 2MOA dot (or the 4 MOA if you wish).

C4

What will be the difference between the M2's and M3's besides the dot size?

I also hear there is a push button to turn power off and on.  Allows you to "store" your brightness setting and also stops accidental activation of the sight.

This was/is something that the Aimpoint guys have been talking about for a good year now.  They wanted the buttons to be "sorta like" the EOthingy buttons.

Will you still be able to turn the sight on with the dial?  Isn't that one of the Aimpoint fans favorite things is that it only takes one action to turn on and adjust the sight?

No.  The switch, while quite popular, is the Aimpoint's wink link.  The Aimpoint guy know this.

A hard, direct hit on the switch can result in a catastrophic failure.

But a push button power switch wouldn't eliminate the problem as the adjustments would still be made using a knob.  Unless Aimpoint plans on completely redesigning the whole sight.

ETA:  I see you used "guy" in the singular form.  Does that mean Lumpy now stands alone?

Lumpy...alone??  Never...not as long as I am here.  I misspoke...should be "guys."

In their "idea" the sight would be partially re-designed.  There would be no more knob.  Everything would be via push-button.

Interesting.  I still think there are Aimpoint advocates who would object to this.  I know many feel the knob is a faster device than the push buttons on the EOTech.  I guess we shall have to see how it all plays out.

I got mine today, it is the usual Larue piece, with the addition of the battery compartment, which (IMHO), was done properly with the 2 o-rings.  And now I can lower the covers w/o hitting my LMT buis and it has the added benefit (for me at least) that the little bit further mounting makes the dot distortions from my slight stigmatism is less noticeable as well

ETA: Pics

Please elaborate?? Looks to me like a lot fo stuff to slap on a upper to gain 3x mag.. Why not just go with a ACOG if you need magnification??

The 3X is a perfect compliment to the Aimpoint and I believe will sell like hotcakes

Edited to add , if you own an aimpoint this is a no brainer MUST HAVE !

I'm surprised it took this long to get it done. Everyone I know that has an aimpoint has been waiting for something just like the 3X.

Because the ACOG SUCKS for CQB work. The Aimpoint and the magnifier give you MUCH more flexibility than ACOG and will most likely be a cheaper setup....

C4

Whereas i don't think it sucks for CQB work (there are quite a good number of people on these boards and in the world that are quite good and fast with tthem in close quarters) it is not ideal for everyone.  The magnifiers for the EOTech and the Aimpoint give a good amount of versatility and profide very good options in many environmemts and situations without requiring the removal or replacement of the main optic.

I hardly think BAC ACOGs *suck* for CQB. A lot of people can work them nearly as fast as an Aimpoint alone... if not just as fast. But, not everyone can do it and for some of those who can it takes training. Some of those who need training need to practice more than others, and like I mentioned, there are still a few who just cant seem to get it for whatever reason.

If you have experience with an Aimpoint and still feel the BAC ACOG is working for you, I wouldnt feel like the Aimpoint + Magnifier will work any better. If you cant get the BAC to work for you, or as well, then this is a great new option. I will be getting one for one of my Aimpoint rifles for sure.

I've read most of whats going on and I dont think I quite understood, but is the new aimpoint M3 available now? Is that what was pictured? If so, thats great. I need one B - A - D (BAD)!

I have been using ACOG's for many years now and BAC works for me. With that being said, I still think that they are a poor choice for CQB work. I do agree that the word "sucks" was a little strong.

The Aimpoint ML3 and M3 are not available yet. The item that is pictured is the Aimpoint 3X magnifier.

C4

Sorry if this has already been answered...but about when do you think they will be available? Any info on what they are going to change? Any pics?
