Yep! I'm in need of a mid-length build but I already have a couple of projects running. 4-5 weeks will allow me to clear up my work bench. Tagged - For upcoming information. |
Obviously price would be an issue, but I'm interested in the configuration.
I'm interested 4 to 6 weeks could be just right for me.
Denny, My wife really hate you. |
Is this the chrome lined match/Recon style barrel I've been dreaming about? I'm going to need another job to keep feeding the habit...
Holy crap that sounds like the sweetest set up ever... How many will you get and when will there be a second batch if the first sells out before I can buy? I cant buy for 10-12 weeks but want one BAD! Whats the price?
Tag - Definitely interested.
I can say I am really glad to see all of the new (and better) midlength barrel options! Thanks Denny |
I’m interested. I always need another midlength.
Anymore info you’d like to share on the profile? Is it typical A2 past the FSB? How thin does it get under the HGs? |
I would be interested if they can come WITHOUT an F-marked FSB. I'd be planning on putting it on a A2 receiver.
That just means your front sight post will be lower in the sight base. It shouldn't have any problems getting zeroed. |
Will you be able toassemble a complet upper if we desire, maybe slap it with a CMT flattop? Any pics of what this might look like? Forgive my ignorance, but what advantage does the 9" have over the 7"? Alan

What is your goal with these barrels? Am I correct in that you are trying to make a chrome lined barrel that is as close to a match barrel as a chrome lined barrel can get (hence the MR blanks)? Or just trying to provide a high quality barrel, not necessarily "close to match"?
-Can you expand on the barrel steel being "Chrome Vandium"? -Can you walk us through the barrel profile from chamber to muzzle? -Are the barrels stress-relieved so that they can be turned w/o releasing the barrel stresses and effecting accuracy too much? -Just to clarify by "MP tested" you do infact mean Proof-load tested, then magnetic particle inspected (in that order), correct? Will every barrel be MPed or just samples? -Who will be manufacturing/supplying the mid-length gas tubes for you? -That's cool that you are parkerizing the parts separately, the FSB is forged not cast correct? Your barrel does sound very interesting to me. Thank you for your time. |
I'm wondering about the match/near match issue myself. That'll be addressed I would presume. As well as price. My only question regards the taper under the handguards. If there's a good barrel performance reason for it then I understand completely and carry on. Otherwise, a tapered profile is a pain to deal with if you ever have to put the barrel in vise blocks. |

AFAIK, Mike Rock's barrels aren't exactly service grade so I guess we wait and see what Denny says... |
Defiantely interested. I have been eyeballing all the different runs being offered, and this one seems to come closest to what I am looking for, depending on price.
Thanks! Dave |
I know that Rock barrels aren't "service grade", but most of the time a chrome lined barrel loses some accuracy. There are some new chrome processes that seem to be able to produce a very accurate barrel (FN SPR), so I'm just curious where these barrels will fall on the typical accuracy scale. Are these going to be 5R, or ?? |

Would full length fluting be an option or even possible with this barrel profile?

Even my CMMG/DPMS chrome lined 16" barrel does 1MOA 5-shot groups with off the shelf match ammunition and 3k rounds down it. It used to do 3/4MOA 5-shot new. Both were done with horrible (I mean _really_ cheasy mounts & scope) scope setups, I'm not sure if the recent larger groups are attributed to the round count or the change of scope setup. This was not a match barrel blank and the chrome lining process was nothing special. Chrome lined barrels can potentially be extremely accurate even without super special expensive processes.
ETA: Those measurements were done from a bench @ 100y to take the shooter out of the equation as much as possible. Haven't had a chance to shoot at further distances for accuracy but bullet impacts in dirt hills at further distances appeared to all be hitting in the same spot. |
Awe shit! What's the priceDenny? This being more of the profile that I wanted, I may have to sell another middy barrel that I've ordered but not even got yet.
I am interested but all depends on how much, also iwill the FSB be installed on the barrel or not?
+1 |
That sounds like barrel perfection! Depending on the price, I'm in!

1. Typo on my part. Chrome vanadium. Basically 4150 with elevated chrome vanadium content. This is the mil spec for machine gun barrels. .50 cal, M240, M249 and M16. Plain 4150 is acceptable I understand for the M16. 4150 chrome vanadium is tougher and longer lived. 2. The exact taper is proprietary but anyone who buys one of these barrels can measure it. Basically .850 in front of the chamber and down to .800 at the sight base. Normal .750 for the sight base and then the small step to .740 to the muzzle. 3. Approximate weight including FSB and F/H is 2.5 lbs. 4. Yes, proof fired and then MP tested. Each barrel. 5. RRA supplies me with the Middy gas tubes. 6. Barrels will be supplied with the barrel nut in place and the F FSB taper pinned in place. I will just be hand tightening the A2 F/H to protect the muzzle/crown. Most of ya are gonna put something else more exotic on the business end. 7. You will be able to purchase just the barrel, Barrel and gas tube, Barrel and gas tube and Delta Assembly or a complete custom build. 8. Expected accuracy will be on a par with LMT barrels. I would just sell those but a. They don't offer the profile I want. b. They don't sell barrels alone. c. They don't offer a 16" MidLength. 9. This I designed this profile with barrel rigidity in mind but without being too heavy. I wanted a strong profile for hanging suppressors off them and also enough meat to handle a lot of heat. Remeber I am a machine gun guy also. 2.5 Lbs is a very reasonable weight for an M16 barrel. Some info on these barrels is proprietary as this is a competetive market. Let's just say the chromer is the same as used by FAMOUS military suppliers and the company acutually making the barrels is VERY well know on these forums and barrels are all they do. Denny |

When I have the completed pricing information and expect date I will post the barrels and option in this thread and the EE.
You will be able to order the basic barrel and packages off the website. Custom builds will be worked out via phone Thanks for all the interest. This will be a top of the line barrel. Denny |
For those of us who are less exotic, will this one take standard mid-length handguards? Nothing is 1/8" off on these is it?
On the subject of handguards, will it have a round carbine handguard cap or a triangular rifle handguard cap. Could the handguard caps be omitted if a free float rail would be used?
Thanks |
