Nice paint job for a nice rifle. I tried the netting covered gun on my 12 ga.  It turned out real well. Am now waiting on the pict. to get developed.

Very nice work, vedubin01.

Here's one I did with Duracoat, but due to the cost I'll be using Krylon from now on.

Here's a great tool if you are painting on a work bench or table top. Plastic base and post. Post locks into the mag catch. Plastic base is slippery so it spins around easily. It comes with a 6" post but you can specify taller if you want.
THIS STAND CANNOT BE USED IN AN OVEN FOR CURING!!! only for painting.

This post is not intended as an attempt to sell. I just thought it would be beneficial to those of you that are troubled by a way to hold your AR while painting.

Here are pics of my first paint job.  I used Duracoat and went for the coolness factor with a jungle type of thing.  I have it in a post in the Do It Yourself Forum:

Alright, this may be a little off topic, but I figured it would get seen more over here than on another thread.

I want to totally reblue a shotgun.  I have decided on a cold blue and have already started the stripping/cleaning process.  Anyway I was looking on the internet and really couldn't find any sites that compared different cold blues.  So i thought I would list the most popular types and everyone could tell me what they thought the best option is.

1.)  Brownell's Oxpho-Blue
2.)  Van's Instant Gun Blue
3.)  Blue Wonder Gun Blue Kit
4.)  Hoppe's Gun Blue
5.)  Birchwood Casey Super Blue Liquid Gun Blue
6.)  Formula 44/40 Instant Gun Blue
7.)  G-96 Liquid Gun Blue

Or if anyone thinks there are better blues not on the list, feel free to let me know.
Are there better options like the bake on enamels?
Also what does everyone think about pastes vs. liquids?

Thanks

I do a lot of duck hunting thus I have several shot guns.  I decided last year to reblue one of my older guns that was beat to hell.  I stripped it completely and polished the metal, etc.  I first used the Birchwood product and it came out blotchy and horrible.  I restripped it and redid it with the same product and had the same results.  So it was not error on the first run.  I then used the G-96.  It worked as to what I would call moderately well.  Was better than what I started with, but not what I wanted.  Since all of this I restripped it, blasted it, and duracoated it matte black and Woodlands tan and sold it for a profit.

Nice paint jobs on your ARs.  I'm thinking of doing the same.  One question comes to mind though, how are your painted ARs holding up to cleaning solvents?  Is one brand of paint more resistant then another?  Thanks.

That is what I want to know, too.  I did a shotgun with Krylon, but have yet to clean it.  I guess I could take some solvent to it and see how it holds up.  Thing is, you can always touch it up pretty easily, I would think, even if it did take a bit of a hit from solvents every now and then.

My 9mm build with the Kustom Krylon finish is holding up very well.  I'm just careful when cleaning it.  There is no need to get any solvents all over it when cleaning it anyway.  If that's happening then your doing something wrong!

Is there anyway we can get the pictures in the first post fixed?

I think I may have to get out the paint set when I return.

Cav Arms lower , 1/9 barrel, CMT A4 upper.  In my idea of woodlands camo:

[img=img22.echo.cx/img22/372/picture0029li.th.jpg]

Just finished an M16A1 in Concrete Jungle,  do not have pics as it is still in parts, but will post in a couple of days after Duracoat cures.

Oh, and the PlastixPlus stands are a must if you are doing a camo job.  It is much easier than growing a third arm or hanging dowel rods from the garage ceiling or what ever else we all have tried to do.

It's not an AR so I hope you guys don't mind me posting it.  Here's a Remington 1187 I did for my hunting guide a few years ago.  It's Duracoat  desert camo pack I think.  I mixed and blended a few of the colors to come up with a medium tan that you can't really see in the pic.  He is happy with it and the Duracoat has really held up well..........even after being tossed around in the stick and the truck for the last couple of years.

Nice!!!  Did you use stencils or did you tape it off?  I would like more detail on how you did it.  So far I have done the single color duracoat and I really like it.  Getting ready to go with a pattern, but I am not sure which one yet.

All these painted ARs look great.  I'm thinking of trying it too.  One question, how does the Krylon stand up to cleaning solvents?  Does it remove the paint?  Thanks.

you must put a finish over the paint for it to protect the paint from the cleaners!

I am a huge fan of camo designs, but I am having trouble coming up with a design for Urban camo...what 3 colors would you use for urban?
Any advice would be great, I'm dying to build my first AR just so I can camo it!!

Will these paints hold up on Cavarms polymer lowers? I don't see why they wouldn't if they held on other nonmetal parts like handguards and the like, but I just want to make sure.

edit: Tack this thread!

.                                                                                                          My CavArms Ergo grip and A-1 stock are holding paint very well after priming with Rustoleum plastic primer.
