On a serious note: Philippians 2:12-15
. . . work out your own salvation with fear and trembling. For it is God which worketh in you both to will and to do of his good pleasure. Do all things without murmerings and disputings: That ye may be blameless and harmless, the sons of God, without rebuke, in the midst of a crooked and perverse nation, among whom ye shine as lights in the world; On a less serious note: Armaments, Chapter Two, Verses Nine to Twenty-One. "And Saint Attila raised the hand grenade up on high, saying, 'Oh, Lord, bless this thy hand grenade that with it thou mayest blow thy enemies to tiny bits, in thy mercy.' And the Lord did grin, and people did feast upon the lambs, and sloths, and carp, and anchovies, and orangutans, and breakfast cereals, and fruit bats, and large --" "And the Lord spake, saying, 'First shalt thou take out the Holy Pin. Then, shalt thou count to three, no more, no less. Three shalt be the number thou shalt count, and the number of the counting shalt be three. Four shalt thou not count, nor either count thou two, excepting that thou then proceed to three. Five is right out. Once the number three, being the third number, be reached, then lobbest thou thy Holy Hand Grenade of Antioch towards thou foe, who being naughty in my sight, shall snuff it.'" ---------------------------- *RUNS* |

Mathew 5:9 Blessed be the Peace makers for they will be called sons of God.
One of my favorite versus. I am a strong believer that if you want peace, you must prepare for war thoough. |

"For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart." Hebrews 4:12

Psalms are my fav, the most quoted of course is Psalms 23:4
Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I fear no evil; for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff, they comfort me |

Isa 55:11 So shall My word be that goes forth from My mouth; It shall not return to Me void, But it shall accomplish what I please, And it shall prosper in the thing for which I sent it.

Ephesians 1:7- In Him we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of His grace. . . and
Ephesians 2:8-9- For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, not of works, lest anyone should boast. I'll confess: Ephesians, Colossians, Philippians and Romans 8 are my favorites. Great Thread! |

i only know two by heart
1 Corinthians 15:32 If after the manner of men I have fought with beasts at Ephesus, what advantageth it me, if the dead rise not? let us eat and drink; for to morrow we die. Ecclesiastes 1:17 And I gave my heart to know wisdom, and to know madness and folly: I perceived that this also is vexation of spirit |

Philippians 4:13
I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me. Luke 1:37 For with God nothing shall be impossible. Proverbs 3:6 In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct they paths. "Roman road" 3:10 3:23 5:12 5:8 6:23 10:13 10:9 10:10 |

Ezekiel 25:17
"The path of the righteous man is beset on all sides by the inequities of the selfish and the tyranny of evil men. Blessed is he who, in the name of charity and good will, shepherds the weak through the valley of darkness. For he is truly his brother's keeper and the finder of lost children. "And I will strike down upon thee with great vengeance and furious anger those who attempt to poison and destroy my brothers. And you will know my name is the Lord when I lay my vengeance upon thee." |

Psalm 50:2
Out of Zion, the perfection of beauty, God hath shined. ------------- Great thread. (Even for us non-organized religion types!) |

Romas 13:4- For he is the minister of God to thee for good. But if thou do that which is evil, be afraid; for he beareth not the sword in vain: for he is the minister of God, a revenger to execute wrath upon him that doeth evil

And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.
Romans 8:28 This has carried me through some situations that I would rather have not been in. |

1 John 2:15-17
Love not the world, neither the things in the world. If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him. For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father but is of the world. And the world passeth away, and the lust thereof: but he that doeth the will of God abideth for ever. |

Maybe these: Isaiah 55:9 For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways, and my thoughts than your thoughts. And this one isn't the one you are looking for, but I love it. Isaiah 40:8 The grass withereth, the flower fadeth: but the Word of our God shall stand for ever. |

Me to. And we're both better men because of it. |

He who testifies to these things says, “Yes, I am coming soon.” Amen. Come, Lord Jesus. The grace of the Lord Jesus be with God's people. Amen. Revelation 22:20-21 |

The heart of the wise inclines to the right, but the heart of the fool to the left. - Ecclesiastes 10:2 -LS |

"Forgive them Father, for they know not what they do"
Man that one just gives me chills. Let's you know there's always hope. If Jesus was willing to forgive them, after what they just had done to Him, then I have a chance too. |
|
There is no way that I can pick just one.
The Book of James comes as close as I can get for 'favorite'. |
|
And, the amazing this is, it is always true. "In all things" means in all things. I might not understand it. I might not want it. I might not like it. But God causes "all things (to) work together for good". I will trust in Him. |

For a bishop as God's steward must be blameless, not arrogant, not irritable, not a drunkard, not aggressive, not greedy for sordid gain, but hospitable, a lover of goodness, temperate, just, holy, and self-controlled, holding fast to the true message as taught so that he will be able both to exhort with sound doctrine and to refute opponents. Titus 1:7-9 This passage has been on my mind this past week with all the speculation about the choice of a new Pope. |
|
In everything do I will worship you. Sorry I cannot say wht verse it is. also 2nd corinthians. The love chapter. " For love endures all things, knows all things and hopes all things".

I've been living in blind faith of that very belief for the better part of two years. Yes, it is working, and yes, I'm beginning to see the good in much of it. As for the rest, I reckon I'll have to wait until He's good and ready to show me. |
||
|
That one gives me chills when I read it. I haven't reached the end yet, so don't know if someone already posted this one: Phil 2:9-11 For this reason also, God highly exalted Him, and bestowed on Him the name which is above every name, so that at the name of Jesus every knee will bow, of those who are in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and that every tongue will confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father. |
|
|
I love that one too. I always notice that it says, "every knee shall bow", and that "every tongue shall confess". That includes the knees and tongues of "every" person. |

I like that one, too. Satan's 3-part strategy. It worked on eve in Genesis Chapter 3. It didn't work on Jesus in Matthew Chapter 4, though. Parise the Lord for that! Mine? Psalms 139:23-24

Genesis 1:1 In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.
(Sortof gives everything a little perspective) Genesis 24:67 Then Isaac brought Rebekah into his mother Sarah’s tent. He took her as his wife and loved her. (First recorded wedding ceremony, short, sweet, to the point) Revelation 22:3 And there will no longer be any curse, and the throne of God and the Lamb will be in the city. His servants will worship him, 22:4 and they will see his face, and his name will be on their foreheads. 22:5 Night will be no more, and they will not need the light of a lamp or the light of the sun, because the Lord God will shine on them, and they will reign forever and ever. (Woooo Hooooo.... The end of the story is a good one) Ecclesiastes 12:13 Having heard everything, I have reached this conclusion: Fear God and keep his commandments, for this is the whole duty of man. (You kindof have to read the whole book to get the context of the verse, but theres a whole lot more meaning that this short sentence) |
|
Then you will love this one: Psalm 73:23 Nevertheless I am continually with thee: thou hast holden me by my right hand. 24 Thou shalt guide me with thy counsel, and afterward receive me to glory. One of my very favorites. |

Ecclesiastes 12, Remember now thy Creator in the days of thy youth, while the evil days come not, nor the years draw nigh, when thou shalt say, I have no pleasure in them.
12:14 For God shall bring every work into judgement, with every secret thing, whether it be good, or whether it be evil. |

That was so Jesus could fulfill prophecy by being numbered among the transgressors. He also rebukes Peter for using the sword. |

Psalm 126/V3:
"The Lord has done great things for us, and we are filled with joy" My wife of 5y painted that over our door as her first 'honey-do'. That, and having 1-Corinthians-13 read by my best and oldest friend at our wedding is about all I could ask.

The Most Important Commandment
Jesus replies, "The most important commandment is this: Hear, O Israel! The Lord our God is the one and only Lord. And you must love the Lord your God with all your heart, all your soul, all your mind, and all your strength. The second is equally important. Love your neighbor as yourself. No other commandment is greater than these" Mark 29-31 these words are more precious to man than all the gold in the world |
|
The decision to fall was made by the first Adam in a Garden (Eden) The decision for redemption was made by the last Adam (Jesus) in a Garden (Gethsemane) Man fell at a tree (Tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil) Man was saved at a tree (the Cross) Man was cast out of fellowship with God with angels guarding the Garden of Eden to prevent man from coming back in. Man was brought back into fellowship with God with angels attending (at the tomb on resurrection morning). |

I sorted through all my favorite passages and started memorizing them some 10 years ago. so far i have the following chapters in my memory (some partial).
Genesis 1 Psalm 1 Psalm 19 Psalm 23 Psalm 51 (edited to add) Psalm 91 Psalm 100 Psalm 119 (72 verses only - too long!!) Psalm 139 Proverbs 2 Proverbs 3 Isaiah 53 Matthew 5, 6, 7 (sermon on the mount) John 1 Romans 5(halfway) Romans 8 (my favorite) Romans 12 1 Cor 13 2 Cor 4 Eph 2 (halfway) Philippians 2 (partial) Colosians 1 Hebrews 12 1 Peter 1 (edited to add) i knew somebody who memorized the Book of James - now that's scary!!! DD |

Impressive! My pastor memorized the whole book of Romans (KJV). |

Sounds like a proof from a catechism. Which, if he is devout, would be apros pos. ETA: This may be the best thread of all time IMHO. Good for the heart! Forgot to include one of my favorites when I made the above post. 2 Tim 2:3,4 (3) Thou therefore endure hardness, as a good soldier of Jesus Christ. (4) No man that warreth entangleth himself with the affairs of this life; that he may please him who hath chosen him to be a soldier. (KJV) And my crutch verse! (Thanks to the Navigators for their discipleship and training!) 1 Cor 10:13 There hath no temptation taken you but such as is common to man: but God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able; but will with the temptation also make a way to escape, that ye may be able to bear it. (KJV) I actually prefer the NIV on that one (one of the very, very few there, but it is a more direct translation of the Greek), but have memorized it in both KJV and NIV, the NIV says: 1 Cor 10:13 No temptation has seized you except what is common to man. And God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, he will also provide a way out so that you can stand up under it. |
