On a serious note: Philippians 2:12-15

. . . work out your own salvation with fear and trembling. For it is God which worketh in you both to will and to do of his good pleasure. Do all things without murmerings and disputings: That ye may be blameless and harmless, the sons of God, without rebuke, in the midst of a crooked and perverse nation, among whom ye shine as lights in the world;

On a less serious note: Armaments, Chapter Two, Verses Nine to Twenty-One.

"And Saint Attila raised the hand grenade up on high,
saying, 'Oh, Lord, bless this thy hand grenade that with it thou
mayest blow thy enemies to tiny bits, in thy mercy.' And the Lord
did grin, and people did feast upon the lambs, and sloths, and
carp, and anchovies, and orangutans, and breakfast cereals, and
fruit bats, and large --"

"And the Lord spake, saying, 'First shalt thou take out
the Holy Pin. Then, shalt thou count to three, no more, no less.
Three shalt be the number thou shalt count, and the number of the
counting shalt be three. Four shalt thou not count, nor either
count thou two, excepting that thou then proceed to three. Five is
right out. Once the number three, being the third number, be
reached, then lobbest thou thy Holy Hand Grenade of Antioch towards
thou foe, who being naughty in my sight, shall snuff it.'"

Love not the world, neither the things in the world. If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him.

For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father but is of the world.

For a bishop as God's steward must be blameless, not arrogant, not irritable, not a drunkard, not aggressive, not greedy for sordid gain, but hospitable, a lover of goodness, temperate, just, holy, and self-controlled, holding fast to the true message as taught so that he will be able both to exhort with sound doctrine and to refute opponents. Genesis 1:1 In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.

(Sortof gives everything a little perspective)

Genesis 24:67 Then Isaac brought Rebekah into his mother Sarah’s tent. He took her as his wife and loved her.

(First recorded wedding ceremony, short, sweet, to the point)

Revelation
22:3 And there will no longer be any curse, and the throne of God and the Lamb will be in the city. His servants will worship him,

22:5 Night will be no more, and they will not need the light of a lamp or the light of the sun, because the Lord God will shine on them, and they will reign forever and ever.

(Woooo Hooooo.... The end of the story is a good one)

Ecclesiastes 12:13 Having heard everything, I have reached this conclusion: Fear God and keep his commandments, for this is the whole duty of man.

Psalm 126/V3:
"The Lord has done great things for us, and we are filled with joy"

My wife of 5y painted that over our door as her first 'honey-do'. That, and having 1-Corinthians-13 read by my best and oldest friend at our wedding is about all I could ask.

Love
1If I speak in the tongues of men and of angels, but have not love, I am only a resounding gong or a clanging cymbal. 2If I have the gift of prophecy and can fathom all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have a faith that can move mountains, but have not love, I am nothing. 3If I give all I possess to the poor and surrender my body to the flames, but have not love, I gain nothing.
4Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. 5It is not rude, it is not selfseeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. 6Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. 7It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.

8Love never fails. But where there are prophecies, they will cease; where there are tongues, they will be stilled; where there is knowledge, it will pass away. 9For we know in part and we prophesy in part, 10but when perfection comes, the imperfect disappears. 11When I was a child, I talked like a child, I thought like a child, I reasoned like a child. When I became a man, I put childish ways behind me. 12Now we see but a poor reflection as in a mirror; then we shall see face to face. Now I know in part; then I shall know fully, even as I am fully known.

13And now these three remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love.

The Most Important Commandment

Jesus replies, "The most important commandment is this: Hear, O Israel! The Lord our God is the one and only Lord. And you must love the Lord your God with all your heart, all your soul, all your mind, and all your strength. The second is equally important. Love your neighbor as yourself. No other commandment is greater than these" Mark 29-31

The decision to fall was made by the first Adam in a Garden (Eden)

The decision for redemption was made by the last Adam (Jesus) in a Garden (Gethsemane)

Man fell at a tree (Tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil)

Man was saved at a tree (the Cross)

Man was cast out of fellowship with God with angels guarding the Garden of Eden to prevent man from coming back in.

Man was brought back into fellowship with God with angels attending (at the tomb on resurrection morning).

I can find nothing from Christianity, but there are several similar statements to those in the Koran and in the Holy Books of Hinduism.

Are you certain that your friend was quoting from the Holy Bible...even in Spanish?

Eric The(Perplexed)Hun

Quite. He is very devout, and would not mislead nor make a mistake of that magnitude.

I'll ask him next time we speak. I need to call him anyway....

Sounds like a proof from a catechism.  Which, if he is devout, would be apros pos.

ETA:  This may be the best thread of all time IMHO.  Good for the heart! Forgot to include one of my favorites when I made the above post.

2 Tim 2:3,4  (3) Thou therefore endure hardness, as a good soldier of Jesus Christ.  (4) No man that warreth entangleth himself with the affairs of this life; that he may please him who hath chosen him to be a soldier. (KJV)

And my crutch verse!  (Thanks to the Navigators for their discipleship and training!)

1 Cor 10:13   There hath no temptation taken you but such as is common to man: but God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able; but will with the temptation also make a way to escape, that ye may be able to bear it. (KJV)

I actually prefer the NIV on that one (one of the very, very few there, but it is a more direct translation of the Greek), but have memorized it in both KJV and NIV, the NIV says:

1 Cor 10:13  No temptation has seized you except what is common to man. And God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, he will also provide a way out so that you can stand up under it.
