That is our immediate hope. Our student government is so frustrated with us that they've introduced and passed a referendum that would prohibit the raffling or drawing contest for "any item that is prohibited on campus."

This is actually the second time we've been the cause for a change in rules, but this one we're going to fight until the end.

I say next year the raffle includes a .50 Barrett rifle.  That'll really get the grabber's panties in a bunch!  I can hear it now: "Noooo! Not a jetliner downing, helicopter busting, chemical traincar destroying, terrorist's weapon of choice! Save the children!" or some other idiotic grabber rhetoric like that.

We gotta keep donating! A single shot Barrett M99 costs almost $4K!

As much as I love Barrett's there are other single shot .50 cal's that are not quite so expensive, There are also .50 cal AR uppers that are NOT considered fire arms! Imagine that at the raffle, all you need to do is get a lower. That would relly make the liberals see red a .50 cal with no paperwork, (though you still need the lower).

I'd love to see them auction a .50 off for the political statement alone. Maybe it would be worth contacting Barrett. They are GREAT Bill of Rights supporters (STOP SAYING 2ND AMMENDMENDMENT; SAY BILL OF RIGHTS, YOU TAKE AMMO AWAYFROM ANTI RIGHTS PEOPLE THIS WAY it is more effective!!!) Barrett may donate a rifle for the publicity, and or support of the BOR. Or they may offer a substantial discount on one. YOU SHOULD DEFINITELY CONTACT THEM. The worst they can do is say no!!!

Also don't cave on the AK-47 issue, this is the PERFECT gun because it is probably the most politically UNcorrect choice. Let the AK stand for freedom now...(don't pull it because it has a 'bad reputation') It is a reliable proven firearm. With the publicity and offering tickets here and other forums, you should be able to contact some manufactures and get either a donated rifle or a steep discount.

I say because you are being politically UNcorrect and supporting the Bill of Rights auction off those firearms that enrage the anti-rights people the MOST! Print up fliers explaining how these are genarally used in the US, and how Law abiding the owners are; contrast firearm statistics with other common things. If you can get the stats for how many ak's are used in crime each year compard to how many kids drown or something similar to put it in perspective. Take a page from the JPFO Bill of Rights culture articles. Use that angle. Then you are not just supporting the 2A but the whole BOR. Let them know that you can't pick and choose what parts of the BOR you want. They are all (ammendments) useless with out the others. The 2A is only a PART of the BOR. Focusing on a part is a detriment to the WHOLE. Divide and Conquer. So focus the advertizing on the Bill of Rights.

He's right. We had the drawing today and a young lady actually won the AK, but decided that she didnt want it and she asked that we defer the prize to the gentleman who actually turned out to be our 2nd place prize winner who also incidentally is our faculty advisor for The Observer. We're really glad somebody deserving won it. He says that he bought the tickets for a friend of his who's a local hunter and shooting enthusiast so we're delighted at the outcome. We had a fairly hairy exchange with some folks who tried to tell us that we were "endangering the 2nd Amendment" and our event was "stupid" and nothing but an "attempt to grab publicity." It was fairly humorous. Unfortunately, it was right in front of the media with cameras rolling so who knows how they'll chop the footage to make us look bad.

Anyway, we're glad it turned out as well as it did. We're already making plans for the post-game events and such and looking forward to what we can "raffle" off next now that we've made our plans known and our support base is so huge. We're thinking at this point of doing possibly a Mini-14 and a nice shotgun or a combination of a Mini-14 and nice handgun OR, my personal favorite if we can find enough funds/donated rifles for it, an AR-15, a Remington shotgun, and a nice handgun. I cant think of a good handgun to give away. I'm a Glock, HK, and Kimber fan but the HKs and Kimbers are probably too expensive and the Glock may not be the best for a shooter who's never had a handgun  before. Any suggestions?

Again, thanks again for all your support, we've just been overwhelmed with it all and it feels so good to be told by so many people that you're doing the right thing when so many people in authority today try to tell you otherwise.

I recommend a nice .22LR pistol.  Good for both the seasoned shooter as well a a great choice for newbies.  My personal choice would be the Sig Mosquito.  It's accurate, reliable, easy to handle, and perfect to learn on as it is the little brother to the Sig 226 with the same control elements.  Plus, you can get one for $350.

EDIT: By the way, an outstanding outcome to the contest!  You should call around to various dealers and manufacturers to see if they would help out with donations or reduced costs on firearms for the next raffle.

Total horseshit, but hey, facts don't matter, let's turn a good thread into a Ruger bash based on ZERO documented or substantiated facts.

Would you buy a Glock or an S&W?

Well, whether or not Ruger is a fan of events like ours, we are considering using one of their fine products for our next "raffle" OR an AR-15 style rifle if we can raise enough donations for one or have one donated/discounted. I think our biggest contenders for this next raffle are:

Ruger Mini-14
AR-15 (pending $$)
Glock handgun
Ruger .22 LR handgun
Beretta semi-auto shotgun or nice O&U shotgun from somebody (or a nice 870 instead)
????

Any other suggestions for guns or places/contacts who might be willing to discount a gun for us? We'll be more than happy to offer free adspace or anything else in return.

Update: We were just told by our SC state legislator, who is Thad Viers btw of the 68th District, that we made his day since he's now our AK clone winner. He generously donated a sizeable sum to our paper so we're really pleased he won. If you live in the district or know someone who does, let him know you support him.

Again, thanks to all of you guys who donated to our paper and offered encouraging support. We just got a Thank You card from a gentleman who has a daughter here at Clemson and he said he was so pleased to hear of our exploits and was very disappointed in the response by our Univ. administration so far.

Barrett Firearms' email is [email protected].  Barrett is a great company with strong values and is determined to fight the idiot liberals in this world.  If you asked for help, Ronnie Barrett himself would probably answer.

I'll email them too, if you want, to ask for some support on this.  Bushmaster and ArmaLite too.  Hell, I can't imagine any gun manufacturer who wouldn't be chomping at the bit to help out a conservative newspaper looking to serve a hot steaming one to the libbies.

While I dont think we have anyone that crazy here, the Clemson Muslim Students Association did decide that the best way to heal the cultural rifts plaguing our campus after we ran the Muhammed cartoons was to order all their members to not even talk to any member of the Observer staff and have no contact with us whatsoever.

Hey guys,

For some of you who said you've contacted us already, I'll just let you know I am the business director for this newspaper and things have gotten pretty bad. We cant tell you how much we appreciate all the support we've gotten from people like you all over the country, we have hundreds of emails supporting everything we're doing, but its still not enough to stop the liberals on campus from literally destroying this event.

Under SC raffle laws, if someone demands a ticket and doesnt wish to donate, we must give them one. Now thats all fine and good, we've had quite a few people enter 20+ times that way but we're still in the fair playing field considering all the other legitimate folks who've gotten 3-4 tickets and donated. They're trying to stack the odds in their favor so they can "melt it down" and we're powerless to stop them. But thats not the big deal.

The big deal was when a student came by today and took about 5 of our sign-up sheets and just proceeded to fill out 200+ slots for tickets. When we got fed-up we shut it down before he could demand the tickets explicitly but we dont know what to do. If we open it back up, he'll enter and so will all his friends and it will totally ruin the chances for all other folks to win legitimately. It's a big problem and we're really up a creek right now. If anybody is a law enforcement officer, judge, or lawyer (or you know any ) who might be familiar with laws pertaining to us, any information would be more than welcome. You can reach me direct via AIM at: Alcibiades223 if you have any other questions, concerns, or want to find out how to donate to the paper (if not the raffle itself).

We want to keep doing this and do it legitimately, but we really dont want these people to use the law in egregiously abusive ways to get what they want with no consideration for other people. How typical.

Anyway, any and all information would be appreciated. Feel free to forward this request along to anyone. We're a group of VERY determined individuals and we will do what we can to make this work out the right way.

Thanks

edited to reflect the wishes of our editor who believes its the fault of no individual and that singling anyone out at this point is counter-productive.

Sounds like you need physical bodies to counter their moves.  We'll then recuit and match their move.  Also try to gain as much publicity as possible, even if negatively portrayed, because it's still publicity.  Then you can be heard.

Funny thing is, we have only gotten one (1) hatemail regarding the whole event so far. All the letters criticising us have been sent to The Tiger, the "official" newspaper of Clemson University that is supposed to be mainstream. They've gotten maybe around 5-6 that they've printed (no idea how many they haven't). It's funny that none of them actually have the courage to confront and criticize us in a print media. That figures though, dont it?

And yes, the NRA (or several people working for it) know what we're doing. They sent us hundreds of pamphlets and other brochures to hand out during the event and helped us out with legal advice regarding SC raffle laws and other matters.

Keep it up. I hope the next issue of your paper can claim a very large sum of money generated from your "stupid idea/paper"

The drawing was actually held back in early March, but I'll tell you what. Hold on to that $20 and buy some tickets when we hold another drawing similar to this one next semester. Right now we're considering a Mini-14 or a nice O/U shotgun as the prize.

Thanks for the interest and support though!
