Hopefully, our fine soldiers will make it much bigger. |

The George Orwell quote on the poster says it all, perfectly. |

What's the story behind the pic? Any details? |
Just for wondering about the bad old days. That firebase and tower - Any idea how old it is? Ever wonder who some of the ancient warriors trod those same roads you do? Russians, Brits, Sikhs, Mongols? Alexander the Great's armies?
I know the feeling we got sailing down "The Slot" and through Ironbottom Sound. |

Thank you Lumpy. I didn't save the other pictures; Pictures and captions tell the story better than I could have. Thanks.....Chad |

+1 The black folk that know that have served in any real military are immesurably better people than the white trash making comments like that. |

Im not sure, it was there during the Russion occupation. Im sure its seen its share of battles and it survived several rocket attacks while we were there.

I really want to make up a fake story to go with this and send it to all of my lib friends.
"WAR PROTESTAR IN IRAQ!" |
That was a GW1 pic. I think the story goes that his Bradley got nailed almost point blank by a T-72? |
Nope. His Bradley got whacked by friendly fire--an Apache mistook them for Iraqi forces, IIRC. |

One of my ROTC commanders just got promoted to Lt. Col....was flying in a helo (scout helo I think) and was shot down in GW1, they crash landed and the Iraqis started shelling their position, he said they just left all their gear and ran for it...they were rescued by some Bradleys but their NBC gear was left behind...the Bradley he was in was destroyed (im not sure if he knew how) but he was alright...they thought the Iraqis would use chemical weapons and he made peace with the fact that he was a dead man (NBC gear left behind)...talk about bad/good luck. He wears a 1st CAV combat patch... |

Actually it was an Iraqi policeman who was kidnapped from his own bed while he slept, then bound and blindfolded and then shot in the head. One of my good friends was in the unit that took this picture, he was at the river bank that day. |
