Indeed, on both counts.

We should support FN, they have made a huge effort to release the FN-2000 (soon), PS-90, and the SCAR (hopefully) to us peons. All things equal I will take an FN over anything else.

Not this one, just came out. Most stocking dealers are still waiting.

ETA: You could be thinking of the FNP-M.

The old version had grey buttons, this one is all black.

Now if only they'd make the Hi Power in a .45acp single stack.

I'd consider one of the new FNs for duty carry to replace my P220 if it were in .45acp also.   I'd like something with a bit smaller grip and trigger reach.   I'd prefer a single action pistol myself but unfortunately most agencies are scared of cocked and locked guns so I'm stuck.

I applaud FN for making new and cool guns for civvie use and not supporting stupid crap like ballistic fingerprinting and HKs not making homeland defense rifles for civilians.

What is the real difference btwn this one, and the FNP-9 that my shop has sold for the past year? Looks quite similar with similar features. Either way, its a great hangun. Good trigger and quality for a nice price.

The functions of handguns like SIG, HK, etc. for the price of a Glock.

A high capacity (16+1), quality, double action firearm that you can beat to shit and abuse for around $450 is what every man needs.

Um I thought they already made one of those it's called a glock or something like that

Personally I don't mind the glock grip angle anymore, now that I learned a propper grip after taking pistol 1/2 with Sully. Hows the grip width on this FN(my only complaint with the glock is the grip is a tad bit "fat" for me, but I can live with it if I get one)

ETA: so who's going to be the first to get one to beat the shit out of?

I like that they put a thumb safety on it.  I like thumb safeties like 1911s use (and CZ-75s) and I wish more makers would use them (like on the Croatian XD for example).  I'm not sure that with the decocker it wouldn't make for too many controls though.

So how does the trigger feel in comparison to a Sig or HK?  It would suck if it was as craptacular as the Beretta 92/96.

I was a bit squimish about my XDs lack of thumb safety but now that I've gotten used to having just a backstrap safety and trigger safety (as well as the striker disconnect, but that's not really something I affect) I think it's more than adequate on this single action handgun.  Wish glocks had backstrap safeties actually.

It's all personal preference though.  I personally don't see much of a point in a manual safety on a DA or a DA/SA handgun outside of a decocker on a DA/SA.  I guess that's one of the reasons why I want a Kahr PM9 if the non-celebrities are every allowed CCW in Cali.

Yep Browning Pro-9 and Pro-40.  I wanted to do a price comparison of the two pistols to see how names consituted prices, but no one had any info at the time.  I want to fondle one and see if I like it.  The one thing that makes me iffy is the DA/SA and decocker.  Is this something that you can carry cocked and locked or is it going to be like a Beretta 92FS thing where the first shot is DA.  I Hate that DA first shot.

FYI. The FNP-9 and FNP-40 do not have a mag disconnect .  The Browning Pro-9 and Pro-40 do.
Those guns (FNPs) acquired a new fire control system design recently which is much improved.  The also have all parts at the level of the frame coated balck. The old one were just steel color.  The FNP9-M is just smaller version of the FNP9.  It now also has the same new improved fire control.

Nothing new.  Might be interesting if:
1.  Bigger slide release
2.  Large capacity mag like Glock
3.  No internal lock/mag safety
4.  Cheap spare mags
5.  Tolerates high pressure loads
6. Needs to have corners rounded off for no snaggage.

1. Slide release is bigger than a Glock.
2. Ummm 16+1. 1 round less than a Glock.
3. Why would you want one?
4. Same price as HK and SIG mags.
5. How do you know it doesn't?
6. In all my years of carrying square guns like 1911s and USPs with non bobbed hammers I have NEVER had a snaggage problem.

Pop out the barrel and see if the chamber is supported or not.....cut rifleing????

FN Herstal, along with chocolate, waffles, cheese fries, and lace; is one of the only good things to come out of my anscestral land of Belgium (my great grandparents immigrated sometime prior to WWII).  For a nation that has only functioned as a speed bump for German invasions in the past, they have a very good weapons industry.

This is another handgun that I'm going to have to give a serious look when I go to get a pistol on my 21st birthday.  Decisions, decisions.
