It's a dolphin. The fish not the mammal.
It's much to large for a bird skull. |

It's a dolphin. The fish not the mammal. View Quote Is that a 100% sure answer or a guess? I know you have the background to know. I looked up some pics of Mah Mahi (dolphin) and that ridge on the its head looks like it could match, but explain the teeth, or lack of... So far, every suggestion yet has been disproven in short searches via Google.
Not a dolphin, not the fish or the mammal. Not a manatee, not any turtle. Not any bird I've yet found, of any kind. I haven't found any match, not even a distant one, among birds, mammals, reptiles, or anything else. Screw it. It's a freaking chupacabra skull and that's that, at least until someone finds a match for it. Its value may be in the millions to the right museum. Or it's something that someone made up, in which case I commend the excellent concept and even better workmanship. CJ |

DAMMIT WHAT IS IT?
I can only gues how many people have been hammering the serach engines looking for info only to come up empty handed. The best theory I have read is a ray of some kind as that would kinda expplain the bridges above the eye sockets. My sis didnt know either which really bugs me. I am sure we have exceeded the $5000 dollar mark in man hours to research this thing, I hope your happy! CH |

Impossible to tell without nowing the size of the skull. From the looks of it I'd say OSPREY

Looks like a horseshoe crab to me...
(Although it's been over 20 years since i've seen one) |

Whoot!
An ARFCOMer discovered a new species! [:D] Thats my guess anyway |

What about an Alligator Turtle ?
I'm still looking for pics of one... I remember when I lived in West Palm as a kid, we had them in a canal nearby... They were funky looking creatures, but native to freshwater though. Here's the best pic I could find sofar... |

I think it's some sort of fish. see the bone on the back end of the skull? It looks sort of translucent.
I looked around on the net for large fish skulls. The only thing that came up was something called the crucifix fish. does the bottom of the skull look like this? |

Perhaps an Assblaster?
or maybe a Shrieker??? |

It does somewhat look like it with the multiple crests on top, but a dilophosaurus has two crests that angle out on the top of it's head, not just one in the center. |

and a bit more solid looking that our specimen here from what i can recall. and on top of that rarely are examples of dilophosauri found. no complete skeletons..

My guess is some kind of reptile... Kimodo Dragon? Possibly the dreaded Leapin' Lizard of Southern Peru?

I got this in my inbox today:
You have found a fish cranium. Since it is only a partial skull, I am unable to determine which species of fish it is. Sorry I couldn't be of more help. It is definitely a fish. The only way to be sure, find a copy of Gregory's (1933) Fish Skulls. Sorry I couldn't be more help. I'll print out your pics and take them to work. The only thing that came up was something called the crucifix fish. does the bottom of the skull look like this? View Quote I thought the same thing at first, but the bottom does look different. I didn't have much time last night to take pictures, will try to get them taken tonight or in the morning. I'll print out your pics and take them to work. Someone there might know. View Quote I also sent pics to the Zoo in Gulf Breeze. There are a lot of good theories. I agree with parts of most of them. If in fact it is a fish (the subject matter experts seem to agree), then I think it is some sort of bottom dwelling scavenger like a catfish, carp, or plecostimus type fish. |

I have no idea what kind of skull it is, but I think I found an interested buyer.

It has to be some kind of large exotic fish. Like a sailfish, with a big fin on its head.

I sent e-mails out to some of my colleagues. I'll get a proper ID from one of them. How long it takes is another matter altogether.

The so-called "crucifix fish" is actually a section of the skeleton of ocean catfish of the type most commonly caught on Florida's beaches.
There's one in every ocean catfish. I'm sorry, but that skull is NOT part of any fish. I just don't believe that for an instant, and won't until I see one of those skulls extracted from a fish and I witness the process or at least see a series of photographs of the process. I still think it's a chupacabra. CJ |

1. It could be a skull of one of the distant relitives of an oarfish
2.It could be some kind of animal that was geneticly engineered by the goverment. 3.An alien thats ship crashed in the ocean. |
