I'm headed down to Dallas this Sat to look at several Maserati GranTurismos. Admittedly I know very little about Maserati other than they can be a great, fun car or a crazy-expensive nightmare to keep on the road. Going in blind is there anything particular I need to be looking at? One dealership said they would be open to putting it up on a lift so i can take a look.

General things I've read about are shocks, engine and tranny mounts, sticky buttons (not an issue) and expensive tires that need to be changed every 12-24 months depending on how you drive it.

Also looking at a few Jaguar F-Types as well that seem to very very low maintenance when compared to the GranTurismo. Thanks

Will it do 185?

(Sorry, I know it's not GD, but I had to.)

Buddy of mine tracks his Ghibli hard. So far in about 70K miles he's had to replace a power steering pump from doing donuts in a parkinglot. It cost him around $1500 at a quality import shop. Otherwise, tires and oil. Car is about 6 years old, now. They use quality components like the ZF8 transmission and the motor is a Ferrari derived V6. Dunno what the GT is packing, but if you buy used by 2 years, miss the depreciation, and have a good indy, the other Maserati's are solid options.

Someone I know has had two Maserati's and the four door has been much more useful (V6) but the convertible was a V8 and much more "fun".  Both are far out of my league but I got to ride in both.

The V8 certainly _seemed_ like it would go 185 but the road wasn't good enough to try.

You can save a lot of money by doing what I did---

The Mazdarati!

When a JAGUAR seems "like a very very low maintenance alternative" ...

Good luck O.P.!

Here's one at CarMax:  fast, AWD, kinda like a GT-R IMO

My coworker had one. It munched the motor.

Ah, Maserati. They do sound nice... when they work.

Outside of the MC20 I don't find anything they make compelling.

I'd go with an F-Type in a heartbeat here.

I've always heard nightmare stories on maintenance on both brands, but never firsthand. I still don't doubt it.

Assuming you're looking at used, the V8 Grand Turismos sound amazing and some of the prices I've seen tempt me from time to time. The Jags are sweet too. GL and keep us updated.

Hoovie got one, said it was by far the dumbest decision he's ever made.

Great when they work, sucks when they don't.
