This.  I don't know a single term they used lol.  I think I'll just stick with my xbox.  I know I'm missing out, but oh well.

Last time I used a pc for gaming and did any modifications to it was in 2006. So I'll be getting Skyrim for my 360. I would really love to have it for a pc which I could max out the settings but I don't have the cash to build an awesome rig. Maybe over summer I'll be able to but not yet unfortunately.

I'd really love to have the pc version so I can take advantage of the construction set. I so badly want to build a castle on the side of a mountain or something.

That video makes me laugh hard. The way he timed the climax of the trailer audio to synch with when she freaks the fuck out and starts crying with tears of joy is just pure genius.

Oh I just requested 11/11/11 off. I didn't even realize it was going to be a 3 day weekend!

First thought:

Thought this was pretty neat. It'd be cool if they made a web series or something along those lines. My bad if dupe.

Live action trailer

I've been on the fence for this game, but that live action trailer might have put me over the edge. Still don't plan on buying for a couple weeks after release (or at least until I finally finish the New Vegas DLCs). It will probably hold me over until Fallout 4.

Anyone know what race character they will play first?

ETA: I read in Skyrim GD there have been 1.25 million pre-orders for Skyrim covering all platforms as of October 22nd.

Breton probably.

I would like to get a peek at the racial abilities and skill bonuses though.

Recommended Specs

   *  Windows 7/Vista/XP PC (32 or 64 bit)
   * Processor: Quad-core Intel or AMD CPU
   * 4GB System RAM
   * 6GB free HDD space
   * DirectX 9 compatible NVIDIA or AMD ATI video card with 1GB of RAM (Nvidia GeForce GTX 260 or higher; ATI Radeon 4890 or higher).
   * DirectX compatible sound card
   * Internet access for Steam activation

So....I need to build a computer.

As much as I'd like to have a gaming PC, this is why I play on consoles. I have one desktop PC in the house (the rest are personal use and work laptops/tablets) and it's just an old Dell (monitor isn't even widescreen, lol) that I let the kids do homework on, play browser-based Nick games, email Gramma(s), and watch YouTube videos on.

I'd literally have to build a unit up from scratch, monitor included, so the "You Only Need $500-$1,000 To Have A Kickass Gaming Rig" doesn't hold water with many of us.

Our loss, no doubt, but while I'll drop $60 for a Looks Good Game like Skyrim, I don't see myself pulling $1,500-$2,000 FRNs out of the safe to simply improve my gaming experience.

If MS/Sony would allow 3rd party DLC/Community Mods (even if they charged for them), I'd be happy as a clam with a rigid clam boner.

I have no friday classes, and monday classes don't start until 3pm.

Contemplating either preordering and picking up at midnight or going to best buy first thing friday morning and using gift cards to get it cheaper.

Only thing I need is a big screen tv now.

For what it's worth, the videos look quite a bit better than Gamebryo. Of course one of the developer commentary demo videos I saw seemed to indicate that Bethesda just recoded everything, essentially meaning it's still a Gamebryo engine at heart.

I seem to remember reading that Bethesda bought the engine for Morrowind because they didn't have the time or money to build an engine and then proceeded to use it all the way through Fallout New Vegas for similar reasons.

Either way, what I've seen of Skyrim looks decent enough and I prefer a deep game with decent graphics over a shallow game (RAGE) with gorgeous graphics. The latest Fallout games are among my favorites all time and those used a relatively old engine.

Thank the consoles. I cannot fucking wait for the new consoles to catch up simply because they are so far behind right now and game developers design 99% of games these days around the weakest link (consoles).

Yeah I wonder how much better the Fallout and Elder Scrolls games would have been with a better engine. Gamebryo is CRAP. I had hoped when id was purchased by Bethesda's parent company that they would get to use id engines for their future games. I'm glad they dumped Gamebryo, but their new engine is heavily based on it. Still it looks amazing in all of the new videos for Skyrim. It may only be DX9, but DX9 can still look amazing by today's standards.

I agree. The biggest disappointment of this game is that it will be DX9. I have a lot of faith in the TES mod community though and expect a lot of texture and landscape mods to make the game even more stunning.

To each their own. I prefer having all my games on Steam and prefer to only purchase games through it with rare exception (Starcraft 2, The Old Republic). I actually REPURCHASE games that I already own when they are on sale on Steam for the convenience of not having to keep track of discs, serial numbers, and ease of install (I can download at 2 megabytes per second so it doesn't take long). Believe me, I originally wasn't keen on the idea of Steam when it first came out, but in the past few years, I have become a convert. They have amazing deals for some great games and it is so convenient IMO. I already have Skyrim preordered on Steam.

I agree. I did not like Steam much when it first came out. I hated that I had to use it to play Half-Life 2 when it first came out. Now it pisses me off when I can't buy a game on Steam (new EA games, Blizzard games).

Steam is hardly perfect, I have many complaints, but it's less bad than many of the common alternatives: activation-counting Securom, StarForce, et al; even CD-checks have let me down. To paraphrase Churchill: Indeed, it has been said that Steam is the worst form of copy-protection except all those other forms that have been tried from time to time .

Good fined.

I'm definitely taking off work as well.

I've resisted all things Skyrim until now - (I have not watched one single trailer or vid ) I just watched that, and now it's time to pre-order the game. I rarely pre––order anything any more, but,  this time I have no choice.

I do NOT want any spoilers, but is this video showing the start of the storyline (like when you saw the Emperor and he died in Oblivion)? Or is it a walk through starting in the mountains like we have seen before?

It's the actual beginning of the game.

I just watched all of it. It was basically the equivalent of going through the Imperial sewers. I'm so excited.

yeah it is literally the beginning of the game with character creation and all.   lot of bitching online about it but I'm excited, I'm more interested in the time after the opening when the freedom starts

Why resist?  It's the beginning.  You really can't call that a spoiler.

How is everyone going to do their first character?

I'll probably go the same way I do in all of these games to start. (Assuming the spell system is like oblivion)

A fighter/mage combo with a sword in one hand, and run around with a spell on the other than does some sort of damage/healing combo. (In Oblivion it was a lightning bolt with a small heal component)

Keeps you healthy in the midst of battle!

Probably something similar.  I am partial to Bretons and Dunmer so one of those first.

I like brentons, nord and dunmer so I'll probably try all three.   I'll probably play nord first because it seems fitting
