It's not just Hollywood celebrities anymore, it's the girls on Instagram, TikTok; you know the social media influences or insta models. The start with those god-awful lip fillers then move to Botox and cheap nose jobs and go from there until they are unrecognizable as what they once were. It's crazy how many guys will simp over them when they don't even look human anymore.

Getting more and more common now for women (and increasingly men) to have *little procedures* here and there starting in their late teens/early 20s. There's talk now of Gen Z aging worse than Gen X and millenials and I bet half of it is stress/vaping/growing up on nothing but ultra processed foods and the other half is these *little procedures* that make a 25 year old look 35. Our youngest is 15 and I've already heard her say she wants a nose job when she turns 18. She is (objectively) very pretty and already has a nose many women would pay for. Not terribly worried as I suspect it's just one of the many idiotic things teenagers say and she'll change her mind as she matures. If I can't rely on that eventuality, at least she won't be able to afford it at 18 anyway.

Their looks are their currency.
They have to do their best to preserve their currency. Sometimes it does not work out. Or……they overdo it. Additionally, I can see the appeal. I have had a minor face lift. I have a buddie who is a plastic surgeon and we were having beers one afternoon on his boat and he asked me if I wanted him to fix my sagging face. He removed about an inch of skin. I am still ugly, just not saggy and ugly. My procedure was minor enough that it is almost unnoticeable. However, I like the way it feels. My face feels tighter. I can see how folks become over compulsive and over do it. Everything in moderation applies to cosmetic surgery. |
