Any info? Reviews? Pics? It's close to Columbus and I'd like to try it out.
thanks |
I have not been there yet, but I do have some intel on the place.
They will have a 300yd range, which is pretty good for being so close to Columbus. I have heard their annual membership fee is something like $150, but you still need to pay a range fee each visit, but it's discounted for members. I have also heard that they intend to be class 3 friendly. Here's a link to more info www.ar15armory.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=15596&hl= |
cool, I'll have to check it out. I don't like the idea of paying a range fee even if you pay an annual membership fee, its obsurd.
No shit. . $150 smacks and they want MORE? |
I wouldn't mind paying for prime time extra but a Tue. afternoon no way.
That's my beef. It's not even the amount, it's the principle in saying "Give us $150 and we'll let you give us some more!"
I guess the idea is to turn off all but the most diehard, so that the range isn't as busy? I dunno, I'm at a loss to understand that kind of enticement. If my wife had said "Oh sure, I'll marry you, but you'll still have to pay for sex and dinner" I doubt I would have been all smiles on wedding day, or even present for the event. |
Need some pics. This is about a 20 - 30 minute drive for me. The Woodbury Range in Coshocton County only has a 200 yd range.
What is the issue with range fees? I'm as tight as anyone, but shouldn't this guy get a return on his investment?
Of course he should make money. It's the manner in which he's charging. Why have a membership if you have to pay AGAIN every time you go? That's kind of insulting, IMHO. I have memberships to 2 ranges, 2 golf clubs, and when I paid my cash it was to go shoot or golf at my choosing. That's why I paid...not to pay to get a discount. I have a range, maybe I'll setup a deal where for $150 a year you can shoot but you have to bring me a box of ammo and a 12 pack of beer every time you visit. Don't deny me a return on my investment! |

a 50rd box of .22's and a 12pk of Old Mildonkey |

There is also a 1000 yard range in Coshocton that does NRA high power matches. Also, about an hour east of Columbus is Briar Rabbit. The yearly membership is the same I believe and its a 400 yard range. Im not sure if its class 3 friendly or not. They do have one hell of a pistol range thats fun to run. |
I think Lauhorner in Springfield is the same way... (not that it makes it right, it is just more common than you would think).
You get ~6 free range visits then discounts on the rest. I should have bought a membership last year. I went so much. This year I just haven't had the time to justify that type of expense. |
Well I drove out to Big Darby today. The good news: Its very close; didn't take more than 15-20 mins to get there. The bad news: It was all gated up so I couldn't really get in to take a good look. I could see all the berms being built up but the rest was blocked by fencing and the main building. Looks like it will be a great range. I'll definitely be hitting this place when it opens.
So to summarize my report..... Not much to report. |
The market decides the going rate for a good or service. If this guy has to price himself out of the market to make ROI, tough shit. He should have researched his business plan better. I am not obligated to pay for his miscalculation. |
If it's like PRO and you get enough passes to cover your membership I'd probably do it. but not for a $4 discount.
bryan666999 can you give me more info on the 1000 yrd range in Coshocton? I've been looking for high power matches within driving range and haven't found that one yet...
thanks |
at least they know a sense of direction.

Zanesville Rifle Club is about an hour east of I-270 and is a 100%NRA and a CMP club. They have a 300 yrd range and all visits are free of charge for members and accompanied guests. They have High Power matches and CMP matches.
35.00 dollars a year. |
I thought about joining them when I moved here (Newark) last september. I even contacted the club president and he emailed me directions out to the range..... I was hoping to see a match before I joined. Bottom line, I'm an idiot and couldn;t even find the place I wish I could at least go out and see it before joining. I'd love to get back into high power shooting this year. |
The pictures seem to be pretty good of the place.
www.ar15armory.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=16305 The rifle range looks kinda small. |
Yeah, not a huge place. Being the only decent range central to Columbus I'd bet it'll get kinda busy on a nice day. |
Anyone know the date this range will open? I can't wait.
thanks |
Rode the bike to check out range on sunday lots of cars and trucks parked, driveway was posted no trespassing so may be members only at this time?
I will probably go check it out since it is so close to me but I don't know if I will get a membership.
They announced that they are open about a week ago. I haven't had time to drop by, but the signs are uncovered. Hours are 10 to 7 Mon thru Sat, and 10 to 5 on Sunday.

From up here in Westerville, It's not that much closer than the state ODNR range at Woodbury. And I've never seen it crowded. -- Mike |

Update, they have a web site up now saying they are accepting memberships.
That's the best website ever. |
Damn straight that is. No wonder they're charging so much for a membership....they have a very high-class designer to pay off. Probably cost a good penny for that level of sophistication. |
Looks like it could be good but I'm not paying $150 membership and still get charded a fee when I go shoot, hell no...
I pay $24 annually to use the Delaware Range on Route 229. Best bargain around.
I didnt know your web design services cost so much. |
Unless you want to shoot full auto... So far, this is the only outdoor range within 45 minutes of me that allows full auto. I have not been there yet, but I intend to go tomorrow mid day to talk to them. |
If I ever get a Ruger AC556 or Lage Max-11, I'll need to seek out another range. |
Can't non-members just pay a small fee each time they shoot? I thought I saw that somewhere. Like $12.00 or something?
If thats the case I have no problem with it... the range has to make money somehow. I don't think I'll be buying an annual membership though as I already pay for one at an indoor range. |
Well, if yours looked as kick ass and was as detailed as theirs, it'd have to cost at LEAST $10 to get designed. |
I forgot all about that place going in. Thats pretty cool... It only like 15 munutes from the house. I'll have to check it out!
its about 20 minutes from me. i will check it out but i doubt i will ever become a member.
Just remember to stop at Ann & Tony's for some good Italian food after you are done shooting! LOL

I'm not running a business. I have every right to criticize it...it's open to the public, I'm the public, and if they're going to present a face to us that looks cheap or paltry then I can make fun of it. All that said, I do have a web site that I made for my band. Granted, I'm not a any kind of pro web designer nor a business but still it wasn't that hard to make something that is even slightly interactive with some good information and pictures. www.localnumber69.com/main_frames.html If this range had opened without the bullshit "pay a hefty membership fee for the priviledge of paying again each visit" policy, I would have not only applauded them for opening in Central Ohio, but frequented and supported the place (and I don't need a place to shoot). However, that kind of policy disappoints me, on many levels. It's a crappy policy, and they have a crappy web site. I'm not entirely sure why it is I'm supposed to be giving them a break. They're not friends of mine, they're doing nothing to court my patronage. Calling it like I see it. They're 100% free to institute a better plan of business, and I'll change my mind about them wholeheartedly. |

I haven't been there yet but I will go at some point. I might consider a membership if It didn't take like 38 trips to pay for it's self If It only took say 12 or even 20 I'd consider it. But I'm 45 minutes away and don't see myself there more than 2 or 3 times a month in the summer. and less in the fall and winter when works busy and the weathers crappy. so there's just no way I could justify it.
