FINE, I am starting a NEW THREAD, this is getting ridiculous. One guy ASK me, and I forgot to get his name. The MORE the merrier. Pretty sure it's a DRY can, it's BIG ENOUGH! Yes, same $50 xfer deal to you guy's! But SIGNING will be at HOOTERS!!! Pat Oregon Research Labs, LLC |
I'm interested in maybe one for the 45 and 9mm. When I get home I'll do some research.
Nox |
You guys do understand this is a HUGE can..........not for a pistol, not for an AR...........pretty much MAC or UZI or Loooooong gun
Its only 1.75"x11.25". Easy for an AR! Only 1/8" larger in dia and 3.5" longer then the tac 16! Still and easy fit for and AR! CH |
Yea, you just have CAN ENVY! Damn right, the bigger, the quieter . . . . Pat Oregon Research Labs, LLC |
You CHEAP SKATE, spend the other $200, and come over to the DARK SIDE LUKE. A 6" barrel for a 9mm or .45 is MORE than enough. Remember, it's NOT how BIG your barrel is, it's HOW YOU USE IT! Pat |
It doesn't look like that they are all that quiet, but I'll keep doing research.
Nox |
Fine then...........I'll order a new lower next week, and send in the SBR the next. |
Thinking more along the lines of a an sbr smart ass!!!! Hows that dog? CH |
I'll post pics of the pup tonight.
If the can doesn't fit under a rail system then that's going to be wierd even on a SBR. |
Add me to the list for a dissassembly tool (Tac 16).
BTW - thanks Pat. It is very much appreciated. |
Very true. YOugot me thinking though, I would like the ability to use it on a pistol... but then maybe I am thinking to hard. |
Yeah, you should really stop that. It's not your forte. |

For anyone interested:
I shot my American Mfg XXX tonite alongside a Tac16 with Pat. Some shots the Tac seemed quieter, some the XXX seemed quieter. There was no definitive edge to either. The Tac is however about 4 inches shorter and my XXX cost me $400 +Tax. Those of you getting a Tac for $315ish? are getting a hell of a deal. I really wish this came up a few months ago, I'd have a Tac myself. Based on my impressions of my SRT integral setup for .45 I will decide whether or not to buy an SRT Hurrican .223 suppressor next. Maybe a similar deal could be worked out???? The Hurricane isnt cheap tho! You guys will love the .223 can, there's just someting really cool about shooting a centerfire rifle without earplugs. |
Yep, GREAT test last night! The only think I noticed was there was a HINT of FLASH that came out of the TAC, where the xxx is longer, and can contain the .223 BLAST better. Sound was the SAME to my ears, tone might have been just a bit deeper with the xxx? All in all, I thing we did GREAT, since we can disassemble the TAC! Pat |

I'm still reading with bitter contempt on missing this. Life's lessons I guess- visit here more often!!!!
Alright.
I've got my forms ready to go. So, let's see if I have this right: - Two completed and signed Form 4's (inlcuding Transferor and Sheriff). - One photo attached to each Form 4. - Two completed FBI Blue fingerprint cards - $200 check payable to the BATFE - One Certification of Compliance Send to: National Firearms Act Branch BATFE 244 Needy Road Martinsburg, West Virginia 25401 Do I have it all right? |
Make sure you put your name as the person certifying as well on this form. You will have your name fully printed out TWICE. SEND TO ADDRESS PRINTED ON THE FORM 4 !!!! |
Interesting question about where to send.
The instructions are fairly admant about sending to the address on the form. My form has an address in Chicago. Anyone know the right answer here? |
I missed that, YES send it to the addy in CHICAGO. |
So even though the branch moved to WV, continue to send it to the P.O. Box in Chicago?
Okay, I just called the branch. So yes, the Form 4's go to the Chicago address printed. My Form 1 goes to D.C. first. After it's all processed etc. and goes into "Pending" THEN it's in West Virginia. By the way..nice lady I talked to on the phone. Barbara Payne I think. |
Here is a thread that some of you may have seen, but I just have come across it. It appears that the NFA branch of the ATF is trying to reach a goal to complete transfers in 30 days. WE will see.
AR15 thread on ATF 30 Day turn-around goal I also thought that I would post this link that I have come across in regards to how to RTV your charge handle to reduce gas blowback when a supressor is used. RTVing a charge handle to reduce gas discharge. |
I saw that as well. When I talked with Barbara, she basically said that it's about a 30 day average to get the data entered. So, in Chicago and DC, there's a person who checks over to verify that everything's been filled out. Then it goes into the ATF online database. From there, it is forwarded to the West VA or DC branch for approval. This is the "pending".
Cool. |
You know, that has to be one of the worst write-ups I have come across. In the essential part (where/how) to apply, it really lacks a clear explanation. This is one of those "worthless without pictures" times. I can guess at what he means ... but it could be much clearer. Lest see just how much gas we do get before worrying too much about this -- in the video that Pat posted, most seemed to come from the muzzle and the ejection port. I can't help wondering if an adjustable gas tube might not be a better solution than either RTV or a $100 replacement charging handle... |
I agree. I was thinking of just using bubble gum anyways |
When I was out at Pat's, it kicked out enough gas and crud that I know that I will be doing something about it. I don't know if I'm going to buy a "Gas Buster" charging handle, but I will try the RTV. Also, make sure you are wearing safety glasses. There's also a guy on the boards that sells this cloth/velco blast shield, but this gets in the way of using the charge handle.
Funny thing is, it does NOT do it on my SP1, just the M16????
I won't have time to play with it tonight, but tomorrow, I will try SWAPPING charging handles, and the RTV trick. Pat |
Get the gasbuster charging handle...........
I'm in contact with a dealer to see what they could do for 5 of them. or get this for $12.95: Blast Guard |
Very cool. Thanks for the link! CH |
I talked with the MGi guy on line. He visualizes a group buy price of $115-120 in Dec if interested. I don't think he sets the price so don't hammer him. Can + gas buster charging handle + MGI buff is a good combination.
Makes me think about an adjustable gas tube. Regards, Rick "The Ignorant" "not stupid, just ignorant" |

Some more paranoid questions from a 1st timer: 1) What about the fax/copy of the Form 3 from Tactical Innovations to Oregon Research Labs LLC? Do I send that with my paper work, or is that just for my records, or did I accidentally walk away from our meting with this paper in stack of stuff? 2) The "Instructions" say to "attach two properly completed FBI Forms FD-258 ... to the application". Does this mean to just place it in the envelope with the application, or do I staple it or paper-clip it? 3) Maybe I'm being too paranoid, but should I separate the form-fours joined by the perforation? What about the 3rd page of instructions? |
a) YES, I would attach a copy of the FORM 3, do to the fact there are 18 cans on a single form, and I had NOT seen that done before. Just want them to KNOW, (or remember) that this is 1 or 18. b) AFTER photocopying the entire packet of info for you records, (less the instructions) STAPLE the packet together, WITH your check for $200 and mail it the the Address on the form 4. c) You can NEVER be to PARANOID, REMEMBER, "ONLY THE PARANOID SURVIVE" I leave the two together, without the instructions, but if you PRINT them out from a PDF they are obviously going to be separate, so it SHOULD not make a difference. Damn, I am up over 100 now on THIS board!
I really need to get a LIFE. Doh, now 104 !!! Pat |
Post whore |
HEHEHE, Doh, now 105 !!!! So there should be THREE of you that still need to do Paperwork. One has contacted me, I think from Springfield, but there should be TWO more???? Please email me at [email protected] Thanks, Pat Oregon Research Labs, LLC |

If you are printing a Form 4 (or any other) from a pdf - PLEASE - remember the instructions on the ATF website on this topic:
Instructions for 5320 series forms NOTE: After downloading this form, photocopy it so that the front and back are on the same sheet of paper. The NFA Branch will not accept the application if the front and back are on separate sheets of paper. From this page. |

email sent to confirm time to do paperwork......... |

I just saw Lt. Fischer about 10 minutes ago. Very nice guy. Very breif conversation. No problems. I'll be tripple checking my papers tonight, then mailing tomorrow. Sweet!
I had a 3:00PM appointment on Tuesday to see the Lt. I arrived around 2:45 and I had my sigh-off and fingerprints complete by 3:00. As always, Lt. Fischer was very friendly. He asked about what I was buying but not as much as he did last time. Totally painless process. His replacement, Lt. Black, is a class act as well, so I expect the process to remain just as smooth as ever in Washington County. I stopped by laserquick and photocopied all the paperwork and then shipped it off Tuesday afternoon, 1 month to the day since I sent in paperwork for a Gemtech Outback-II. It should be a happy but quiet new year! ;-) |
I saw Lt. Fischer this morning around 9:45am (he's probably wondering by now how all these "TAC-16"s are coming about.
Overall, nice guy. Signed my 2 Form 1's and 2 Form 4's. Made Xeroxes of both. Again, painless. I go in for the Oregon CHL Monday. |
Hey gang,
I didn't get in on this deal (trying to quiet the G19 right now..) nor did I look through the whole thread, but I was wondering if any Deschutes County members got in on this? I haven't gotten in touch with Sheriff Stiles yet, but was wondering if he signed anything for anyone with no prob? Enjoy your cans!! |
I'd just call the S.O. and see if he'll sign off. I havent heard of any OR sheriff's that wont sign off yet. |
He said he was seeing a lot of these lately. I said a few of us guys had a group buy to get a good price on them. Before that he asked if I was a shooter or a collector. I said I was a shooter, but there was certainly a "cool factor" to having a suppressor. That's about the extent of our conversation. Stamp->Sign->Thanks! |

Eugene & Springfield PAPERWORK is going out today, PRIORITY mail,
you should have it Monday (Tuesday at the latest) The LAST of the 18 will be Munkalido on Sunday A.M. at the quarry. Hurray, (Have I told you how much I HATE Group Buys???) (So when is the NEXT one? CAC-9/45, TAC-22, RDIAS, TSMG'S) I will have the THREE tools I got in with the CANS, out there, 1st come, 1st served. It was $99.96 for 4 = $24.99 EACH (and I am keeping one) (The rest will get them with your cans at the same price) As soon as WS4LIF tells me how many. Pat Oregon Research Labs, LLC |
He asked me the same exact question. I told him I was a bit of both, but everything I collected, I shot. He had heard about Practical Rifle and was just out at TCGC for qualification. He did say he'll be moving to patrol at their East branch (Beaverton/Aloha). Like I said, overall a nice, easy experience. |
Pat, All I can say is thanks again for putting up with us. Of course, as you know yourself, these things feed on themselves. Once we know the paperwork, etc. We're now looking at .45, 9mm, and .22LR cans. My wallet hates you though. |
Does that included the people who pre-order them at the time of the group buy? On page 6 I requested that you get one for me, do I still have one waiting? Thanks Pat ilike9s |
