UPDATE

I think member "USMCTanker" had an excellent response to today's senior leadership in the service.  Anyone remember the thread it was in?

ETA:  USMCTanker did have a good post on leadership, but it was a different topic.  Sorry, Tanker...didn't mean to "throw you out there!"

Bummer. A Staff Sergeant was caught stealing when i was in. Busted-down to PFC, and i made him call me Lance Corporal! What do we do with career officers?

He'll be allowed to retire in disgrace.

The Command would roast a non rate or a non-comm  over even the charge back in my day.  I wonder what the good Lt Col will get besides never his Bird.   That is just either a BIG misunderstanding or  UNSAT as hell, especially for a field grade.

In another life I was a SPC in a S3 shop.  One of our warrants got picked up for shoplifting a pen from the PX.  Never saw him after that incident.

Surely he wasn't hurting for cash and couldn't afford the pen.  I think some guys just can't help themselves.  Too bad, he was one of the coolest to work with in that office.

FIFY.  His retirement won't exactly be a pittance.

Had a LTC in my company earlier last year that got Court Martialed, either a BCD or an OTH...lost all his benefits over something stupid like this.  People do dumb things.

He steals inkjet cartriges and gets slammed.

My former CO traded his fucking rifle in the Philippines for more booze and gets posted, but they let him pick up Maj.

Print cartridges are a rip off, man should have invested in a continuous ink system. About 1/50th the cost.

Stupid comes in all ranks.
But I'd like to hear more details from all sides...
was it shoplifting or just a mistake...
if shoplifting that was pretty boneheaded of a Colonel.
Pretty damn retarded in fact.

Jesus H Christ Marine WTF?
And a RECON qual'd Colonel to boot.....  Notice the gold wing and bubbles on his cammies in the pic on the link...

Oh geez this isn't going to end well

Wow! Amazing with someone that has such a high stature in the military would do something like that. People at that rank usually exhibit very good character qualities.

This guy completely threw his career down the toilet for some dumb shit.

I agree but chances are it will go away and he will get transfered.  I knew a Major who go a DWI and he kept his rank and just (disappeared) got transfered to another unit (went from Camp LeJeune to an I&I Staff CO Position) basically got his hands slapped and IMO a DWI is a lot heavier charger

Wooooo Hooooo Bewbs

If true, it's ashamed he'd risk throwing away a great career by committing such an absurd crime, I'd like to hear his side of the story before rushing to judgement.

and yes, that reporter is cute!

I disagree - one shows a severe lack of judgement but no intention for ill-will;  the other shows the actual intent to defraud another entity of their property.  I'd hire someone who had a DUI in their past well before I'd hire a thief.

He is entitled to due process from both the civilian side and also the military side if they decide to charge him under the UCMJ, and at this point he is presumed innocent.

As far as the retired marine who commented around 1:20 that theft of ink cartridges is "not a big offense," that may be true in the grand scheme of things.

But I wonder if he would change his tune if someone stole something of equivalent value from him?

He's so new at the Command that they don't even have his photo and bio up on the 24th MEU website!  Holy fuck.

Full Colonel takes command of one of the most prestigous units in the whole damn USMC and then gets busted shoplifting.

There MUST be more to this story.

Was a power washer missing too?

Since the facts have not been made public and he is not convicted, I'll wait till all is known.  Innocent until proven guilty.  For now all we know is just gossip and conjecture.

He is done no matter what.  The O6 and GO maffia in the Corps have already said, the act of putting yourself in a position that looked suspicious is enough.

I would like more details.  Did he intentionally steal something or was it something he overlooked in his cart or basket or did he put them in his pocket because his hands were full?  Sometimes a stores definiton of stealing strays from the textbook definition of stealing.

I'm sad that the reporters didn't get the Jacksonville Ninja in the background for the report.

"Presumed innocent until proven guilty..."

Had he been a first term enlisted, he'd be on restriction and a pfc faster than you can say your first general order.
